It is. They have had the most victories and with good reason. From the few I have met, they have some commendable talents among them.

Me? [he waves a hand] I'm not on a team at the moment, but I've been joining the fights underground here and there. Not much of a team guy, if you get what I mean. Considering it, though - it makes more.

I do, yes. [No judgement here either. There's plenty to enjoy about the competitions without being affiliated.] You mean the unsanctioned ones? Hmm, I did hear something about those.

Yeah, those. They're more my speed, not much of an athlete anymore. [implying you ever were, Ben, geez] And it's just fun getting the crap beat out of you while you beat the crap out of them. But that's me, I'm weird.

[Thor actually chuckles a bit at that.]

Well, whatever works for you. I have done plenty of that in my own time, but I am not of a mood to seek it out these days.

[It's only been a few short years by Thor's own reckoning, but his attitude towards battle and fighting has shifted dramatically. He's no longer one to seek out strife to prove himself or get satisfaction from a win. If there's a reason for a fight, he'll be there.]

[Thor shrugs, picking up a pair of glasses himself to scrutinise. All mortal capabilities are less than his own.]

One of the first friends I made on Earth wears them. At least you have both eyes?

[Getting used to just having one has been an inconvenience.]

[but he snorts, shaking his head] Technically we match, but I got a fake, computer-y eye instead of an eyepatch. I'd rather rock the eyepatch.

I lived on Earth for a couple of years. I am very fond of it, and hope to go there again soon.

[Peering through the glasses - god, how does anyone put these on their face? - he blinks and turns his attention to Ben again.]

You have a replacement eye?

[Excuse him, he's going to look a bit closer and see if he can pick out which one it is.]

It's not a bad place, sometimes. Where'd you end up? States? Europe?

[he raises an eyebrow, but lowers the glasses so Thor can see them better. His right eye looks just a touch off] I have a couple of replacement bits, but yeah - replacement eye.

Ah, New Mexico? Then New York. And I was in London for a time.

[Honestly, don't ask him exactly where he was. He doesn't know that much about Earth's geography. Thor's not an expert on eyes, but he thinks he can see the difference with the right one.]

Does it let you see or is it merely a false one?

Huh. Two of those I get, New Mexico's just - random. My ex is from there.

[if he watches it long enough, he might catch it flicker - sort of like a lightbulb would. Ben just makes a face when it does]

It lets me see, yeah. Hooked up into my brain and shit like a real eye would be, only with more circuits and less nerves.

[He has to chuckle a bit. It had been where he met Jane, after all... who was now his own ex.]

New Mexico is the place where I first landed on Earth. I do not know that there was any particular reason for it being so. It just happened that way. I count myself fortunate that it was where I ended up though.

Ah, I see. That is a useful thing to have then.

[If Thor is at all phased by the idea of cybernetic eyes, it doesn't show. He's seen a lot more than his godly mythos would suggest.]

I have only recently lost my own eye. It takes some getting used to.

Either you didn't end up in the city or the heat doesn't bother you. [is all he'll say about New Mexico. He's been there a few times, given the ex, but it was too hot for him, even when he could feel temperature right]

It's pretty handy. A pain in the ass sometimes, too.

[he appreciates that Thor at least doesn't need him to explain what everything is]

How long ago did you lose it?

It didn't seem too hot to me. [Thor may not have the most normal concept of weather, given his tendency to hang around on both lava-soaked hellplanets and the vacuum of space without concern.] It was a rather small village I spent time in, though I fell into the desert at first.

[Absently, Thor rubs his thumb beneath the eye patch.]

It would be about five months ago now. I lost it shortly before I was brought back into the Fleet.

What, is Asgard warm year round? I'm from further up north, so I'm more used to the cold. And New Mexico heat is gross when you're not used to it. [village?? Dude] The small places are nice - the ones out in the middle of nowhere like that.

[he nods, crossing his arms]

Brought back? [huh] But yeah, it's a bitch and it sucks. I had to re-learn basically everything when I lost mine. But you do get used to it - just takes a while. [...] Probably any day now for you, since - y'know, god.

Asgard was never quite that warm, no. It was fairly mild, even in winter and summer. But I can see how the heat would be challenging for the unprepared.

Ah, yeah. Do you know about how this place can give you new memories from home, as though you had returned for a visit? That is what happened to me. I never left, but I fell into a coma and when I awoke -- [He taps his eye patch. Which is evidently more than just remembering extra things.] To me it felt like I returned home for a couple of years.

[He huffs a little. This is easier to admit with someone who's already been through the same thing, he finds. Thor doesn't like to admit that the change in depth perception is downright infuriating at times.]

It has been a challenge, I will say that much. Fortunately I have plenty of time here to get used to it without being attacked in the meantime.

Challenging is a very nice way to put it.

Of course some kind of bullshit like that was possible, what else could they do to fuck with people?] So they just - what, shoved new memories into your head while your body was here? [he's had a surprising amount of conversations like this since he's arrived here. In a way it's nice, finding some sort of common ground with someone. Even if it's missing a body part]

Hah, fortunately. If you want any hot depth perception tips, like - how not to walk into walls, let me know. [it's said jokingly, but the offer is there] It's mostly just - learning to turn your head more and using your other senses to make up for the loss.
