[ She glances at Thor briefly and then out into the field. ]

He's my brother.

[ Watching spars isn't really her kind of thing - she'd much rather be participating in them. And this whole thing was... but it didn't really matter. ] 'Want' isn't really a factor.

[Thor wonders if Loki would even tell him if he was engaging in a battle for someone's affections. Probably not - that seems like the kind of situation Loki would want to handle on his own. Katara's own concern though is likely to set her on edge.]

You should take heart - Sokka has prepared for this for weeks now. He is as ready as he can possibly be.

[Yay. Except... no. She can't talk with Thor about this when she hasn't even fully discussed it with Sokka. The way this went would tell her a lot, anyway. Watching Looma fight and how the two of them interacted would tell a lot.]

I'm not that worried about Sokka. He's one of the most innovative fighter's I've ever seen, and you don't need to be stronger than someone to beat them. And from everything that I've heard, this isn't a fight to the death. They've got to have a set of rules to indicate when Looma is defeated, and she said she'd stop as soon as Sokka yields, so...

[He's got no reason to push this to the point of stupidity, since he can always challenge her again. And if she doesn't stop when he yields... well, they are having this battle completely surrounded by snow. So.

Plus, even if he's hurt, she's almost completely sure that no matter what, she can put him back together. (Unfortunately, she knows too much about all the things that can go wrong now that... even though she knows what she can do, she also knows the thousands of things, big and small, that can make death happen instantly.)]

Yes - so I have heard.

[It's an odd custom, even to Thor's ears. Asgard valued prowess in battle and strength above many others in the universe. They had a long legacy in that area. Yet even Asgardians didn't need to engage in a fight for the chance to win someone's hand. Certainly most women did not do so. That Sokka is willing to go to these lengths for a chance to court Looma speaks a lot to his feelings on the matter, as far as Thor can see.

He isn't that familiar with Looma as a person. Thor does think, looking at her out on the field, that she will be a formidable foe.]

No, of course not. No one would want this to go too far, Sokka least of all.

[ She crosses her arms, physically holding herself together. ]

I guess we'll see.

[ She's... yeah, this whole thing has thrown shades of doubt over her brother's ability to make coherent and healthy choices. So... yeah. ]

[After a moment, Thor puts a hand on Katara's shoulder. Her worries won't be assuaged by words alone. She'll need to see what happens.]

Yes, we shall. [A beat.] And then you can have words with him.

[It's a sign of her tension and focus that she jumps a little when he puts his hand on her shoulder.]

Hopefully, those words will be: "Congratulations."

[ She forces a small, tight smile and looks up at Thor. She does believe in her brother, she does. This whole thing is just... really... shady. ]

I am hoping for that as well. This Looma looks to be a formidable opponent.

[The problem with Thor is that even his reassurance tends to blend right back into appreciation of battle capabilities. He's interested in how this will pan out. Weird as the circumstances might be, he'd like to see Sokka triumph just in terms of battle prowess.]

Of course, so am I, and he held his own well enough in our training.

[Not that Thor was going especially hard on Sokka. He had given him the Captain America special.]

[ Katara glances up at Thor and gives a little huff of laughter at that simple statement: Of course, so am I. She doesn't doubt him, but that's not the point.

If she can separate this out from what she's so worried about it, it is bound to be a good fight. ]

I guess we'll see. It looks like they're getting ready to start.

[He rubs his chin and casts his attention back to the field, where Looma is launching in with her warhammer. It's certainly a nice weapon, if a bit bigger than what Thor himself prefers.]
