Heh, nope. [He shakes his head along with his laugh.] I've always been a big guy, even by Qunari standards.

[He shrugged.]

They watch us, see what we're good at. They're our teachers, too, yeah. Sort of makes them pretty qualified to tell where our strengths lie, right?

[You don't get a say in it. There was that "personal freedoms" hang-up everyone seemed to have, like the Qunari were slaves or something.]

Not really, no, but it's just as well, because the Tamassrans are really good at figuring out exactly what you're good at, so when you do it, that's your job, it's what you do for the community. All that crap about "personal freedom" and choice...I don't know, I guess it works for other people. I've seen it kill a lot of people, too, and a lot of good people go to waste doing things that didn't suit them.

[He could only hope running the Chargers actually did suit him, because otherwise...gah, it was stupid to think about otherwise.] Shit. That's a lot time.

[But sometimes thinking about home was nice.]

So, tell me about the place on Earth with the palm trees.

I guess I can see why it's a good thing if that's what they're there for. Who won know better than them, right? It would help, not having to figure out what you wanted to do instead of just doing what you were good at?

People do a lot of shit because they're free to. Choice can harm as much as hurt.

[ He's seen it happen enough times to know. People get killed from their choices. Carl is happy to change the subject and offers a fond smile. ]

Sure. Georgia is the state I'm from originally. It's down south, closer to the equator, so it's hot and humid most of the year. It rains often, but usually not for long. Doesn't get cold often, and I've only seen snow a few times.

Shit, yeah it can. I mean, most jobs have choices, too: who to interrogate, where to scout, what to say at a meeting. Just because you're doing a job someone else gave you doesn't mean you don't get to choose.

And...finding what you're good for, what you're best at? It's...it's hard to explain ...to people who've never been there. [And now he's an outsider, too, a Tal-Vashoth, a soulless thing. If he could go back, he'd make the same decision, but that didn't make it any easier to look forward and, for the first time, not see a path through all the shit he had to walk through. He didn't know how to explain it to the kid, though, so at length, he just shook his head slightly, turning his interest to this "Georgia". It sounded a lot like Par Vollen, with the rainy seasons, the warmth, the humidity, though he'd never actually seen snow until he went to Orlais.

One thing did catch his attention, though, and he raised his eyebrow.

Hang on. South? It's warmer south?
