[He smirks. Bad joke, but he thinks he's funny.]

Hah! Actually, I get a lot of emergency calls for all kinds of stuff, so yeah... or I did, anyway.

[Not much in the way of emergencies around here. Unless emergency need of fun counts.]

It usually happened on my vacation.

[He scoffs at that.]

Nobody can handle anything on their own, huh? Typical. [He shakes his head.] Are you with the Fleet or are you from around here? You humans all kind of look the same.

[He smirks.]

[Some might get offended by that, but he just laughs.]

Why do you think we do stuff like this? [He gestures to his chest where the tattoos are, because he is still so proud.]

I'm with the fleet, yeah. Zack Fair, I'm on the Bloodsport.

[Good, because if Zack couldn't tell that was a joke, they were not going to get along.]

Most southerners don't, where I come from. It's a Rivaini thing back home.

[He holds out a massive hand to the guy, though, smiling.]

Nice to meet you, Zack. I'm The Iron Bull, from the Heron.

Oh man, you would be called that.

[He's never met anyone with a name more fitting than this guy. Still grinning, he takes Bull's hand for a damn solid handshake despite their size difference.]

I know, right?

[And Bull's grinning at that.]

I picked it. See, where I come from, people don't have names, just...I don't know, job descriptions and numbers. So...we pick names a lot. [He then spreads his arms, because he's huge and someone needed a better look at him, right?]

It had to fit. I'm in charge of this mercenary band, right? I'm The Iron Bull. They're the Chargers.

Whoa, mercenary!? That's awesome! [And it's a great name, too.] I was actually planning to be a mercenary, once.

[theirondragon]

[He chuckles, but nods.]

It's a life, at least when there's enough wars around to fight, or enough nobles at each others' throats...or looking to claim land owned by some crazy tree spirits...or giants. You know, the usual.

[The usual, he says.]

Besides not getting your own bed most days, why'd you give it up?

[wingenvy]

Well... let's just say the decision was made for me. Plus, y'know. I'm here now.

[Sometimes situation just doesn't allow dreams to come true, one way or another. That's life... or not life, in this case.]

[theirondragon]

Yeah, that's true.

[Bull rolls his shoulders in a shrug.]

And here's not so bad...you know, aside from the cannibals. Did you hear about that? That's crazy shit, right?

[wingenvy]

Heard about it? Man, I was there. I was on one of the ships that wound up crashing, so we were stuck there for weeks. Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it.

Well, shit.

[Bull frowns. Being trapped in a place like that for weeks sounds pretty terrible.]

Glad you made it out, Zack. A lot of people wouldn't.

[wingenvy]

Sure wasn't for lack of trying on their part. They weren't all that refined, though- like they didn't get much training. They were just super brutal about everything.

[theirondragon]

Mmm. [Bull nods, taking a sip of his cute pink drink before continuing a conversation about brutality on a beach, because why not?]

Instinct fighters. No discipline, they just follow their gut. Sound right?

[wingenvy]

Sounds right, yeah. In a lot of ways it felt more like fighting monsters than people.

[theirondragon]

[The Bull can get behind that, having experienced something similar before.]

...yeah, that's shit. How'd you guys get out of there?

[wingenvy]

Team effort. We got some backup from, uh, outside forces, we'll say. The weapons on the surface that took out our ships were disabled, the fallen ships were repaired, and we bailed as soon as we could get everyone out.

[theirondragon]

Outside forces? Sounds sketchy. [ And Dodgey, which pings his Ben-Hassrath sensibilities. If we're all on the same side, why not say who the outside aid was? ] Close call, huh?

[wingenvy]

Close enough to make us worry about it until it was over.

[He shrugs his shoulders.]

There's a few people who were more involved in the technicalities of the whole thing, if you want to ask around. I'm more of a wrecking ball kind of guy- point me in the right direction and let me cause some damage.

[theirondragon]

[ The Bull laughs at that. ]

Hell, yeah. I'm all for risky attacks. Those are just the kind of odds I like stacked against me.

[ The more he talked to this Zack kid the more he liked him. ]

Sounds like it could have been a lot worse than it was.

Considering the other option is everybody dies horribly and gets tossed in a stew? Yeah, I'd say that.
