Where's Katara? | OTA

A. For Katara, who's still so newly arrived to the fleet, the best part about this system is that it's made up of so many different environments. She'll be staying the planets, for the most part, and talking with the residents.

[ 1. She spends next to no time in the desert. She doesn't like them, and the last desert she was in was pretty horrifying. The time that she does spend there is at night. Has she pulled you along to go star-gazing? The chances are pretty good, actually. Seeing it just once for her is not enough.
2. At first, Katara is thrilled to be surrounded by snow. She plans, initially, on spending most of her time here. But the first night she's there... she's hit by homesickness so vast and profound that she actually leaves, stumbling back to the Blue Fish in barely contained tears. Do you see her there, at first in pure joy, playing in the snow? Or do you find her, head bowed, shoulders hunched, trying not to make eye-contact with anyone until she can cry quietly in her ship?
3. She spends many days in the Urban Jungle, mostly because it's beautiful, foreign, and entirely enticing. She likes to sit and drink lemonade and watch the crowds as they go by; she likes to explore the city, the alleys, the multi-colored life of it all. She winds up making friends with several of the Waves, and spending happy hours at the water parks.
4. She doesn't much care for the tropical - it's hot and humid and there are mosquitoes. But it is also beautiful, and she winds up spending a few days just exploring the different kinds of wildlife and plants that grow there. At one point, you might come upon her on her hands and knees, digging out a particularly beautiful flower.
5. She winds up spending much of her time at the ocean, surfing. It's crowded, but it's not so bad on the waves, and if she does it casually as opposed to competing, then it's not cheating if she uses her bending. This is one of her favorite things to do. The chances are, if you can't find Katara anywhere else, she's on the water. ]

B. ...the second best part about this system is that it has so many things that are blue! [ She's found that her ratings have resulted in a... really disturbing amount of money, and so she resolves to spend them on the things that she needs as opposed to leaving the money to mysteriously vanish as strangely as it appeared. See her shopping for a knife with Waves regalia, or trying to find more blue outfits that she'll be able to convert into the sort of clothing she likes to wear.
1. (Of course, the side effect of wearing so much blue is that nothing will convince the Waves that she's not one of them, and honestly, Katara doesn't mind too much. It's not long before they convince her to join in on a few of the water-based sports... See her sledding? Swimming? She doesn't see much point in doing the sports for long, but it's nice to meet new, friendly people.) ]

C. Making Herself Useful
[ Of course, in all the time she spends exploring the Urban Jungle, she's bound to come across a few people who need her help.
1. Fighters from a fight club, braving a lecture to be healed
2. A Wave fan who wandered into some more disreputable Starstrikers who seems to need rescuing... 'seems', anyway - is the whole thing a trap?
3. Gathering ingredients for a space garden ]

[Nami will apologise for her weird lightning duck being overenthusiastic in its greeting. If Katara ends up dunking him in the water maybe he'll learn, unless she falls in herself.]

[ What? Woah! Gaah! ]

Biri!

[She does... not fall in, but it's close.]

[It's echoed from somewhere behind her, at that--] BIRI!! You stupid bird--

[And nyoom. Nami's out here on the waver, hair flying in the breeze as she catches up to Katara. With a more respectable distance between them than Biri, at least.]

Sorry! I guess he likes you.

[At least these waves are a little easier to weather, the small eddys caused by the waver were easy enough to ride out.]

Uh - that's okay! He just startled me.

[That's why she kept her distance. Biri may not have any grace, but she'd rather not upset Katara's balance. What she's doing is impressive enough. She starts slowing.]

Is that tiring?

After a couple of hours, yeah. [She shrugs a little.] It's good practice for stamina, since I'm not controlling a lot of water, but I'm holding it together for a long time. It's fun, too.

A2 - oops forgot to hit post

[Sokka noticed how happy she was in the snow, of course- and he kind of expected this downward spiral afterwards. He felt the same, after his first snow planet. That horrible aching of home. Heck, she's had it worse than him, after least he's been back to the South Pole in recent years, messy as it is. She's not seen home for a long time.

Eventually, he finds her and moves to sit beside her, offering a cup of hot tea in one hand.]

Kinda overwhelming at first, right?

[ Yeah, she's got it bad. Bad enough that she barely even notices when Sokka approaches and she jumps a little. She immediately tries to wipe her expression clean and into a more neutral expression. ]

Oh, Sokka! Hi! [ She scoots over a little further to make room for him and takes the tea. ] What's overwhelming?

Uh huh.

[He arches one eyebrow, gesturing to her general face.]

I saw that. The crying. You can't sneak that kinda thing past me, I have Big Brother second sense with this.

[ She could argue, but she takes a sip of her tea instead. It's to buy time as she tries to decide how to respond, but in the end... honesty. ]

...I guess I'm a little homesick.

Yeah, I kinda figured.

[He offers her a smile. ]

It gets easier, after a while. We visit lots of snowy planets, it's pretty nice.

[ She glances up at him. ]

[And suddenly, a Katie, complete with picnic basket and blanket.]

I understand we need to watch the sky for aliens. Very important.

[ A Katie! Excellent. Just as planned. Katara also has a blanket, and a canteen full of hot cocoa. Hopefully, Katie doesn't mind cinnamon. ]

...aren't we the aliens here?

Well, yes. Oh, would you look at that!

[She points up towards where the Marsiva is in orbit, a semi-bright little dot.] I found some already.

[ Katara grins. ]

Amazing. Who would have thought it would be so easy.

[ She starts to move so that they can head out to find a good spot. ]

[Katie has always had a super fondness for the concept of aliens. Some of the history of the world in fae terms has been hysterically fun. She follows in Katara's footsteps, swinging her basket idly.]

I suppose we could also go alien spotting in all the local stores, too. But it's much prettier out here, isn't it?

[It's far too crowded at the beach, which is why This Individual Who Still Has Not Given A Proper Name to Katara has found herself a quiet secluded cove that, at least for the moment, is mostly undiscovered. It's quiet, a little breezy, she's been working with magic to dig out a peculiarly shaped spot for herself, decorated with whatever glittery shells happen to come up from the process, scouring them clean with magic. It's like meditating, even her hood is down, which is certainly... rare. Mostly she seems preoccupied with her actions.

... She doesn't think to check the water for anyone who might be watching just yet, though.]

[Surfing is the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeest! Whee!

...oh hey, what's that over there, it does look a little shiny. Literally. What's that reflecting sunlight off the... towers of sand, what?

Katara bends her way closer to get a better look.]

[She might have gone a little overboard, though in reality the pillars surround more of a... sunken den of sorts, with a bit of elevated wall around it to provide some cover. Not so deep as to hit water, but nice and cool in comparison to everything around. As if that wouldn't draw attention, though she had been far away enough from prying eyes... most of the time.

Oh, now this was a large shell. Cleaned up nicely too. Still, she doesn't really touch any of them directly, as it's ... well, literally purple glowy orbs that help set it into place.]

Hello? [ She calls out as she approaches. ] Who's here?

[At the sound of Katara's voice, the dark orbs suddenly vanish, though she can probably, given her proximity, catch a glimpse of long white hair and blue skin, as Haggar automatically slinks back to where there are more shadows, guarded as ever until she recognizes Katara.]

... You've come out a long way.

[Aang isn't back to normal, but at the very least, he seems to have let his guard down somewhat after he was able to start the memorial without any cosmic retaliation. He's avoided much conversation about the Capitol, instead tagging along with Katara and playing in the snow or showing her stickers he found (and promptly plastered on his face).

Tonight, they sit and stargaze in the desert. It's peaceful. Aang has been making a game of making up new constellations in the foreign sky. That's a giant lionturtle waiting in line for an airbender fruit pie. That's Fire Lord Ozai searching for his missing pants. That's the Earth Emperor's dancing bear, Bosco.

Eventually, Aang falls silent. He's fingering his arm, his brow beginning to furrow.]

Katara, do you think you could help me with something? It'll probably be a little gross.

[ She glances over to him, her expression concerned and assessing, but not really worried. ] What is it, Aang?
