Engine room
The pulse of magic is strong here and Strange watches in silence the young man as he infuses what he guesses is the center of power of the wards. He doesn't hide as he waits for the other man to finish, knowing better than to disturb a magic user during a spell.]
That's an interesting idea. They're protection spells, right?

Yes. Very perceptive of you. [It's one thing to sense magic - many people in the fleet could recognize it on the basic level, if they had anything similar. It was another to recognize the form as being more than that. Color him intrigued.]
You'd be our newest arrival? We haven't been properly introduced. Felix Harrowgate. [He offers a hand]

Mmm, it was a lucky guess. [Not really, and Strange doesn't say that out of modesty, that's not in his nature. But he's not either about to reveal too much about himself either. Not until he knows the crew better.]
I am. Dr. Stephen Strange, [he offers, moving to grasp the man's forearm instead of his hand to shake. It's just as polite, and much less painful for Strange. His grasp is firm despite the scars on his hand and the light tremor of it.]
I arrived a few days ago. [Form the thin, tight line of his lips, it's easy to figure that this isn't a place he wishes to be stuck in.]
I wasn't aware that this ship had sorcerers on it.

The altered handshake throws him for a moment, but he understands the intent after a moment, his smile flaring back to life on his face.]
Well, technically speaking it doesn't. I'm a wizard. But that's semantics.
A doctor, though? Well, we're lucky to have you on board with us. Sorry for the lack of a proper welcoming party, but the crew tends to scatter to the winds the second we come into sight of a habitable planet. Ah, which reminds me...[He moves back, opening a compartment on the far wall and removing a small basket]
Take one of these. It will key you into the wards. Do what you want with it - put it a piece of jewelry or just keep it in your pocket - just as long as you have it on your person at all times while you're on the ship.

That answer raises an eyebrow slowly on Stephen's face:]
There's a difference between the two of them?
[Not that it matters much to him, as he will always see himself as a master of the mystic arts.
He smiles lightly:]
I am. My specialty lies in neurosurgery. Well, used to be that, I guess. [The reason why it's not anymore is fairly easy to guess from his hands.] And don't worry about the welcoming party, I wasn't exactly expecting one either.
[Stephen watches as Felix retrieves something and peers into the basket when it's presented to him. Strange chooses a green stone that reminds him of the Eye of Agamotto hanging around his neck and nods curtly:]
Thank you. How do they work?
[Strange is not sure he will ever need a protection ward, but he's not about to turn down something that might come useful in the future.]
no subject
That depends on where you're from, but at the end of the day it's largely a matter of persistent nomenclature.
[Smirking lightly, he backs up to replace the remaining stones back in their cubby]
The stones are a way to help the wards recognize friend over foe. The wards, besides protecting the structure of the ship itself, will also incapacitate anyone on the interior of the ship attempting to attack the ship or the crew. Technically speaking, they are more exclusive than inclusive, as anyone with the stone will be considered a viable target for the wards. For instance, in the event we were boarded by something hostile and you went to attack it without the stone on your person, the wards would incapacitate you first.
((ooc: You can design your stone here))
