Waystation Mingle Log!

[Well, that all sure happened. But at least you have the waystations! Whether you want to stock up on supplies, work, trade, or visit the very fancy Virtual Reality Dome, it's bound to be a nice break from the attacks of the 5th.

He doesn't like the way the Dalish cling to things without knowing what they are or how they fit in. He wants to teach them all the things he knows, so they can grow and become more.

[Cole touches the back of her hand, fingertips callused.]

He wants to be with you. She smells like home and my chest feels less hollow, the gaping holes softened. Spending time with you makes life ache less.

[By the time Cole finishes, Jove is certain the tips of her ears have gone just slightly pink. His chest is less hollow? She's concerned of course, doesn't like that Cole can pick up feelings of Solas having so much sorrow in him, but primarily her faint blush is caused by the knowledge that she eases that.]

That's... I'm not sure that's something he'd want you to tell me, Cole. I'm glad I make him feel better, though.

[Cole hums and shrugs slightly.] But it's not a secret. I don't share secrets. And it makes you feel better, lighter, fuller.

I can't really argue that. When it was just Dorian and I here it was nice, but now that so many of you have joined us this place is feeling more and more like home.

[She turns her hand and catches Cole's fingers, threads hers through his to hold his hand and squeezes it lightly.]

You're part of why I feel better and lighter and fuller, Cole. You know that, right?

[Being touched startles him briefly, head snapping to look at their fingers, woven together.

He doesn't answer with words, just hums softly.]

I'm sorry I'm not the Cole you knew.

I'm starting to find that doesn't matter as much as I thought did, honestly. The things I love about the Cole I did know are the same ones that you have, so a shared memory of it only matters a little. I'm glad that I got to meet you.

You're not like Cadash... but you are. I think it must be much less confusing for me than you.

I'm pretty used to confusing, though. There isn't a lot about what we've done that makes sense, you learn to just go with it.

[But Cadash is a name she's never heard before, when it came to Inquisitors. Arhen had been of clan Lavellan just like she had, but this is entirely new.]

Would you mind telling me about the Inquisitor you know? I have to admit I'm very curious.

She... wore her tattoos as proudly as you do. They meant something very different, but she was proud of them. She flirted with everyone, even Vivienne, because it annoyed her.

She shaved the sides of her head, like Dorian and Cremisius, but the rest grew long. She pinched Cullen's bottom at Halamshiral and blamed one of the nobles nearby.

She sent Varric after me when I was going to kill the templar who murdered me. He told me that being a person doesn't get easier, but they made it a bit easier. Solas looked at me like I was one of the shemlen who killed his friend.

[Which might go some way to explaining his uncertainty with Solas when he first arrived.]

She was so angry at Bianca for betraying Varric. For not seeing how lucky she was to have him. But she flirted with Dorian and Cullen over chess instead.

[Jove smiles sadly as she listens to Cole, unable to deny she definitely does see how she is and isn't like the Inquisitor Cole knows. Perhaps that's why he took to her so well, but it's more likely that Cole is just that way, able to connect quickly to people thanks to his abilities.]

You must miss her.

[Cole looks down at his hands and nods a little.]

But there are other people and they're not the same, but it stops me noticing that she's not here as much.

She could show up, you know. There's precedent for it so it could happen.

[And Jove hopes it does, honestly. Anything for Cole to feel a little more at home here.]

Maybe. I think she would be happier if she didn't.

[That matters more to him. There's two people he'd love to see, but he doesn't want them here, because they might not be happy. And Rhys and Solas would probably fight about spirits.]

[With a nod, Jove rests her hand lightly on Cole's shoulder.]

Then if there's anything she would have done for you that I can do, you'll tell me, won't you? I can't [and don't want to] take her place, but I want to be sure you're happy while you're here.

Yes. I'll tell you.

I can help people still. That's what I want to do.

[He can't say it makes him happy. He's not sure about what happy is yet. But he likes doing it.]

You shouldn't have any trouble there, this place seems to be packed with people who could use your help.

[There's pride when she says that, because she is proud of Cole and what he does. No one else could, not in his way, and she considers the people in the fleet lucky to have the chance to meet Cole.]

I like helping them. Sometimes they won't let me, but I can work around that. Little things help. Helped Vivienne, helped Sera, so long as they don't know.

You helped Vivienne? [She's surprised by the fact that Vivienne never discovered that, rather than the knowledge Cole would try to help the woman. Of course he would, he's Cole.] What did you help her with?

[She can guess it has something to do with wyvern hearts.]

Yes. She was sad, she missed Bastien. I made her smile. She never knew I helped.

I arranged her favourite serving girl to overhear Vivienne's prayers to Andraste for Bastien, so she knew to ask Mother Giselle about Bastien and Mother Giselle went and had tea with Vivienne and didn't talk about Bastien, but she did talk about the forgiveness of the Maker through Andraste and she felt better.

[He pauses and thinks.]

The next day, I brought her a flower and she called me a conniving demon and froze the flower and shattered it. She felt better for doing that too.

Cole...

[If he searches her now all he'll find is an overwhelming of love for this boy. It would be a waste of time to find another word for it, something less intense, because the simple fact is Cole is far too easy to love when his entire existence is based around helping people.

Even someone like Vivienne. He tells her the part about the flower with such acceptance that it only makes her love him more.]

Sometimes I'm not certain the Inquisition deserves you. You do so much and it's so rare that anyone gives you the recognition and thanks you deserve.

[She knows he doesn't do it for those things, but it still bothers her that he's almost never told how much what he's done means.]

Yes, Jove?

[He looks thoroughly confused at what she says. He doesn't understand. He does what he can and it's not as much as he'd like to do.]

I don't need recognition. Not so long as I can help.

I know.

[She does, and that should be enough for her if it's enough for Cole, but it just simply isn't. Someone as wonderful as Cole should be told how much he means to the world, and not just by Solas and herself. How many of the soldiers did he comfort when they were alone and afraid? The people working in the kitchen, Leliana's agents, even visiting nobles, they all owed so much to Cole and most of them didn't even know.]

The Inquisition is lucky to have you, Cole, but more importantly... Well, I'm just glad you came to Haven to help us. And I'm glad you stayed after that.

I'm glad I was allowed to stay.

[Not by her. Not for him. But her Cole would've been just as glad as he was, when Cadash stuck up for him and let him help.]
