Waystation Mingle Log!

Who: GAME-WIDE MINGLE aka everyone
Broadcast: If you want
Action: The Stations!
When: From 04/05 through the month of April.

[Well, that all sure happened. But at least you have the waystations! Whether you want to stock up on supplies, work, trade, or visit the very fancy Virtual Reality Dome, it's bound to be a nice break from the attacks of the 5th.

Make your own prompts, set up your own Virtual Realities, etc! For reference, the OOC post with info is over here!]

[She's staring uncomprehendingly. The tree of what? Carried by who? And what does he mean by the "first rising?" Perhaps this is simply a mythological creation story. However, she's not going to find out by continuing to gape at him.]

I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't understand. Many of those words are unfamiliar to me.

You would not know them, of course- forgive me. When my world was yet young, it was lit not by the sun and moon, but by the Two Trees of Valinor- Telperion and Laurelin. The tale of their destruction is a long one and bound up with my reasons for leaving.

But after my people had left, the story goes that the Valar- [He pauses, realizing that will need an explanation as well.] 'the Powers,' literally. Men have been known to call them gods, though that is not how they understand themselves. Maiar are like unto them, but lesser in power.

The Valar, it is said, salvaged the last fruit of Laurelin and the last flower of Telperion and sent them into the sky under the protection of two Maiar.

What I know for certain is that my first sight of the moon came as we crossed into Middle Earth; the first rising of the sun came soon after.

[It will take her a minute to absorb this information. Everything about what Finrod is saying could easily be accepted as folklore except...]

So you were alive when this all happened? This is a memory?

I was and it is. It must sound strange to your ears, I know. It would sound stranger still were I to tell the tale in full. [Giant spiders, magic gems... He's aware, to a degree, that his history involves elements which would be deemed unusual in most places. He's still learning just *what* those elements are to each person, however.]

[Mostly she is having trouble with the concept of trees as a light source for an entire planet.]

It is strange.

[She gives a little laugh.]

And here I was worried I was getting too jaded after twenty years in Starfleet.

[Well, truthfully, it's just Valinor, but his viewpoint is a bit biased. He laughs in return.] I am glad to prove otherwise. What is the world without a bit of wonder?

[She smiles.] More than a bit, I'd hope.

Of course. As long as I have lived, I still discover new sources of fascination.
