[At last, the day has come: Festival Day! Once again, the Starstrikers have taken the trophy this year. But that doesn't mean members of other teams, or those who didn't play, can't celebrate with the rest of them!

There are parties everywhere. Ribbons, streamers, and confetti litter every major street in the system. (Remember what they say about glitter...) There is food on every block, and people cramming into shops to get in on the merch.

Don't forget about the reason for the festival-- the pet adoption drive! A large playground-type area has been set up on the Starstrikers' desert moon where people can play and interact with the lovable creatures needing new homes. Whether you're looking for companionship or just something to do, there's plenty to coo over! Every pet comes with an info card listing a fanciful name and a general description of their age and temperament. Maybe Sir Pringle the puppy or Marquess Mariana the fish can become your new best friend.

Sadly, the Fleet will be drifting in about a week... but feel free to party until then!]

The only thing that you're supposed to do right now is dance and enjoy yourself, and I know for a fact that you're doing at least one of those exceptionally well.

Not hiding. Obscuring a little with drunkenness, maybe. [And sometimes drunk happiness is just a different kind of being miserable.]

Does everyone get this much push back on drinking? Winn did it a lot and I don't remember the lectures. [This time the happiness is just happiness.]

Sorry. [He does have the good graces to be sheepish.] I assume that, here, others share my motivations for drinking. This will be the last lecture, I promise.

I thought it sounded cooler. Not so much? [And maybe just a touch emotionally distanced so it's almost like they are talking about someone else so maybe it will feel easier to do?]

No, no, I just thought that I was in trouble with a Fleet captain. [Mostly he was redirecting. Things are good right now with no disaster planets in the immediate vicinity and no one leaving ~~that they know of~~ or dying. He didn't mean to slip.]

[She barely takes direct ones to heart.]

Yeah? Wait, does that make me the boss of you somehow?

If we were to observe Starfleet rules, you would have the authority to assume the role of my commanding officer in my own captain's absence... so yes, I believe it does. Try not to abuse your power too badly.

How can you say that to an over achiever? Of course I want to abuse it to the maximum level of abuse.

Oh, so immense. Practically unlimited and unchecked. You know, unless people just want to ignore you and do their own thing or also get themselves made captains.

I would never be so ambitious... although the captain beds do look considerably more comfortable than the one that I have.

There's still only the one captain's bed no matter how many people are captain. I had to fight Vash for it. [By "fight" she means she said she was taking it and did so.] You don't even necessarily have to be captain to do that. It just might make for an easier sell.

How did both of you become captain? Was there a power struggle? A half-hearted mutiny?

I was captain of the Windrose and he was captain of the Three Twins when we merged.

Okay, yes, that does sound more like both of you. I don't know Vash very well, but he seems unlikely to fight you.

Yeah, he probably wouldn't except under very specific circumstances. He's a good guy. A little unusual, but who isn't?

He is... but his hair is alarming. [Sorry Vash, facts are facts.] I think that I'm the most usual person in the Fleet. Particularly after meeting someone who can cure a disease by singing and realizing that this was far from the strangest thing I have heard here.

Yeah, I'm not sure if he does that to himself or if it just comes that way. [She hopes it just comes that way, but she'd be wrong.]

Cure disease by singing? [Skeptical even though the point is everything is weird and nothing can surprise them anymore.]
