[At last, the day has come: Festival Day! Once again, the Starstrikers have taken the trophy this year. But that doesn't mean members of other teams, or those who didn't play, can't celebrate with the rest of them!

There are parties everywhere. Ribbons, streamers, and confetti litter every major street in the system. (Remember what they say about glitter...) There is food on every block, and people cramming into shops to get in on the merch.

Don't forget about the reason for the festival-- the pet adoption drive! A large playground-type area has been set up on the Starstrikers' desert moon where people can play and interact with the lovable creatures needing new homes. Whether you're looking for companionship or just something to do, there's plenty to coo over! Every pet comes with an info card listing a fanciful name and a general description of their age and temperament. Maybe Sir Pringle the puppy or Marquess Mariana the fish can become your new best friend.

Sadly, the Fleet will be drifting in about a week... but feel free to party until then!]

[In Pavel's experience, the marriage one kind of depends on who the other person is. But yes, in principle? Neither is good.]

No, no, I like the ships, it's only that there are far fewer people here. Fewer ways to be useful and busy between systems as well.

[oratorical]

[Oh. Feeling useful. Yes, that's the sort of feeling Leia needs a lot of. She purses her lips, pausing for a moment before she responds.]

Is it that empty when traveling between systems?

[candothat]

There are waystations sometimes, but yes, mostly. Even the Iskaulit begins to feel small eventually.

[That sounds gloomy. He backtracks.]

That isn't true for everyone! Maybe you will be better at keeping yourself entertained.

[oratorical]

[Leia shakes her head, the shadow of a self-conscious smile on her face at his comment.]

No, I think you'll find you and I suffer from the same affliction.

Which ship are you on?

[candothat]

I'm very sorry for that.

[Clearly not that sorry since he's smiling. Finding someone else who's bad at having free time is sort of refreshing.]

The Tourist, which is the best ship in the Fleet... but of course I'm biased. And you?

[oratorical]

The Vanquish. So far it doesn't seem so bad.

[candothat]

I'm not familiar with anyone on that ship. Or I wasn't prior to now.

[He gives her what he hopes is an encouraging smile.]

Things are mostly good. Often boring and occasionally harrowing, but overall not at all bad.

[oratorical]

[It's encouraging, and Leia matches his smile.]

I've heard some... interesting tales about my own fellow shipmates but I don't know how truthful they all are.

[candothat]

I would advise against putting too much faith in rumors, except for the ones that are particularly strange. The strange things tend to be true.

[oratorical]

Where would you place teleporting another so they fall into a pond?

[Strange to Leia, yes, but maybe it's normal here. Who knows.]

[candothat]

[He pauses to give this question the quality contemplation that it deserves.]

That, I think, is very likely true.

[oratorical]

[Leia blinks, just the barest hint of her surprise at that story not being an exaggeration showing through.]

Have you experienced something like that here?

[candothat]

That specifically, no. [He smiles.] But my good friend can walk through walls and today I met a girl who can cure disease with singing, so it seems reasonable enough.

[oratorical]

You're going to have to elaborate on that second one.

[Walking through walls is one she's heard before, but disease curing is something new.]

[candothat]

I understand exactly as much about it as you do.

People with no powers are, I think, in the minority.

[oratorical]

It's comforting to know that I'm not alone in that matter, at least.

[someone doesn't know she's force sensitive, but that's also something she's not about to pursue or even consider on her own. That's not her area at all.]

[candothat]

Not alone at all. I think that my only power is being good at math... which, while occasionally applicable, is probably less impressive than superstrength or intangibility or curative singing.

[oratorical]

What is it you do away from here, if you're that good at math?

[She's curious, okay.]

[candothat]

I'm a navigator and tactician on a starship. Sometimes an engineer. Functionally a science officer.

[His work status is It's Complicated, they keep giving him new jobs, who even knows what he does.]

And you? What is it that you do when no one is abducting you for a television show?

[oratorical]

[She smiles, feeling some measure of comfort with how similar Chekov's job is to many people she knows back home. Yes they're all on ships here, but that's not the point. These are different.]

I'm the Crown Princess of the planet Alderaan, and for a time I represented our interests in the Imperial Senate.

[Even though that's not the full truth. She's not entirely at ease with discussing the Rebellion yet or her own high ranking role within it. Long ingrained habits of not discussing any rebel business will do that.]

[candothat]

A princess and a politician? Both of those sound like occupations that would keep you very busy... you may be right to worry about becoming bored between systems.

Oh, er... is there a title that you like to be addressed by?

[oratorical]

I prefer just "Leia," in all honesty.

[It's not often she ever got to go by just Leia. It wasn't always proper or appropriate for others to address her that way, thanks to nearly every sort of galactic custom and her upbringing. But titles aren't the most important thing to her, and she's far more interested in getting to know others person to person, not person to princess.]

[candothat]

Good, thank you. The other you that I met never asked to be called anything else, but I would rather not offend you until the second, third time we speak.

[He's joking, he's going to do his best to avoid offending her at all ever.]

[oratorical]

[Thankfully Leia can both tell and appreciate a good joke. It really just gives Chekov more points in Leia's book.]

So far, at least, you're doing a good job of avoiding that.

[Oh thank goodness. The other her that he'd known had a brilliant (if sometimes wry) sense of humor and he's pleased to find that it appears to be consistent across at least two universes.]

Then I should go while that remains true.
