Katie - OTA

[Katie became one of the Vanquish's captains a few weeks ago and has yet to mention it since or do anything vaguely captainly. To be honest, she's pretty sure nobody would trust her to be one and she was only making a point. She spends much of her time off the Vanquish in any case, though from the beginning of June she takes ill with a mild fever and stays closer to home. Something about memory-transmitted illnesses, it's all very rude.

- Her office is always open even so, with its paper THE DOCTOR IS |IN| sign hanging on the door, because she does still function as the ship's counsellor.

- Otherwise she can be found having long and possibly one-sided conversations with Licorice, the sleek black cat that follows her into the kitchen and is extremely demanding, and she cleans out the cupboard and restores it to some vague order in the process of feeding them both. (She sorts it by label colour. Very useful.)

- Finally, when she's starting to feel a bit better, you can find Katie in the cargo bay with her sketchbook, taking measurements and making plans. And possibly breaking from them to sketch you as you walk past, because why not?]

[What's this room? Manji's never really given it much consideration before. He wasn't really interested in talking to a doctor, but he was still curious. So in Manji walks.

He stares for a moment at the "doctor" sitting inside.

Nope.

He turns and leaves without saying a word.]

[Gosh, that was a quick visit.]

Want some cream for that worm infection?

[She calls it out gaily as he leaves. Don't worry, she doesn't really expect an answer, you carry on being grumpy elsewhere.]

[oratorical]

[still getting used to the ship and being here, the cargo bay and what it carries is a good place to get a feel for what they have and might need. As well as a bit more about her new shipmates.

It's not really until she notices Katie looking up at her occasionally then turning back to her sketchbook that Leia really pays Katie more attention.]

Did you need something?

I always need something. [Katie lowers her sketchbook and grins.] But nothing in particular, if it helps. Do you mind?

[She flips the page to show what she's drawing. It's a flattering likeness, at least, complete with some quick star doodles around the edge.]

[oratorical]

[Leia appraises the drawing for a moment, clearly a bit impressed with it. Okay maybe it's a bit strange drawing someone you don't know yet, but it's a well-done picture, and Leia's going to assume it's in good intentions.]

That's not bad at all. Do you do this often?

[Manji doesn't spend a lot of time on the ship. Choosing to sleep like a hobo on the SS Iskaulit instead to avoid certain crew members as his request to change ships keeps getting ignored.

Today is one of those days where he's on board to take what he feels is his fair share of food and other items.

He starts in the kitchen and looks around at the food. Finding everything is organized by label colour.] What the--? Is this, by colour? [The hell?] Well, that's just stupid.

[Not that it stops him from "stealing" some food by stuffing it into a bag.

He'll be polite enough to everyone (except Katie) and he'll even give some advise if he runs into anyone new.] I suggest changing ships. The captain here is crazy.

Maybe. [For values of crazy. It's not the word Natasha would use, but she's also not going to argue it.

What she will do is shrug, though.] But seems like she's more captain in name only. She doesn't exactly go around trying to get us to fall in line.

[Natasha appreciates it.]

She tries to tell me what to do. [Violently.] Careful, maybe while I'm off the ship she'll find someone else to boss around.

[outstandingbalance]

I'll keep that in mind. [Still not all that concerned by it. Natasha's been here long enough not to worry.] Any idea how long you'll be gone?

[oratorical]

[While Leia's not about to pass judgment solely on the opinion of someone she doesn't even know, she'd be lying if she said she weren't curious where this was coming from.]

Why do you say that?

[about the crazy, that is.]

[canofmanji]

Because you try to help her out and she attacks you for it! [That is not what happened, but that's how Manji remembers it happening.] That seems pretty crazy to me. [Not that he seems overly concerned or overly emotional about being attacked. He actually says it pretty deadpan way.]

[oratorical]

[That gets an eyebrow raise out of Leia, both the response and the deadpan tone used as he explains. It's not what she expected.]

Should I ask what you were trying to help with?

[As a rule, Natasha doesn't spend a whole lot of free time on the Vanquish. Lately, she hasn't even been sleeping here that much. She does make a point of coming back for at least a couple of hours a day though—either at the communication console, or just hanging out in the kitchen reading and drinking coffee.]

Kitchen

[Kramm's collecting a plate of protein and one of his many varieties of beer, but seeing that there's someone already here he decides to camp out with company rather than head back to his quarters.]

Hey there, Natasha, right?

[outstandingbalance]

Hey. [She smiles a little at that.] I really do need to hang around a little more if you're not sure.

Yeah. Hungry?

[krammbunctious]

Heh, I'm always hungry. Of course, I'm usually always walking and running and fighting ... [He settles into a seat and looks at the meal in front of him. Probably a little more than the recommended serving.]

Guess I'll have to do some more walking and running, but the fighting ... not sure when I'll get that in.

[hollystrike]

[It's terrible that Licorice is more familiar with Natasha than Katie is; the cat diverts to say hello as Katie trips into the kitchen with a blanket round her shoulders.]

Afternoon. I think? [She's honestly not sure. It's Feeding the Damn Cat time, is what it is.]

[Natasha drops her hand to scratch the cat's cheek.]

I thought we had a deal. You don't beg or start acting entitled, and I sneak you treats.

[That to the cat. To Katie:]

I think you're technically right. Whatever that counts for in space.

[hollystrike]

[She grins at the exchange. Licorice, you've been told. Katie opens the cupboards on the hunt for more fish, speaking easily as she does.]

A bit hard to have a noon when you have no idea where your sun even is, I suppose. How have you been?

[Because she doesn't see many people actually on the Vanquish, all things considered. Everyone has lives.]

[See all that beer in the kitchen? That's from Kramm. Yes that's for you. It is separate from his personal stash, which he keeps in large growlers under his bed. Enjoy.

Kramm himself can be found in the galley enjoying his beer, or walking about the ship when he gets restless, but otherwise he's usually over on the Iskaulit.]

[Man, she wishes she drank more beer. But it'll do in a pinch, maybe when she's a little healthier. Katie hasn't run into Kramm before, but when she does by chance, her eyes light up.]

Goodness, you're a cute one. Please tell me you're on this crew.

[krammbunctious]

[Kramm smiles at the compliment.] Guess they put all the cute people on one ship, huh?

[He holds out a clawed hand in greeting.] I'm Kramm, and you are ... ?

[canofmanji]

[Oh! Something Manji finally likes about this ship.] Oh, I hope this is for sharing.

[Ah yes, his bar buddy!]

That it is; dig right in! Might not have the ambiance of a pub but it'll do in a cinch.
