( Jean isn't a stranger to space. She isn't a stranger to time travel. She is a stranger to this particular space ship, though, and she's not really sure why she's here or how she got here. It's a pain in the ass, really, considering she just got back from space not even two weeks ago and here she is again, trapped in the limbo of endless black and stars close enough to touch. She'd started on a ship with limited capacity and basically no people and at least she's actually on a ship with people now. It's an improvement - somewhat.

Great. Just peachy.

Maybe this time they can skip the Invasion of the Symbiotes and she'll get to keep control of her own body and mind. It'd be nice, for once, not to have to worry about some alien entity invading her body for the fun of it. )

So, uh, question? What sector of space are we in, exactly? Because I just got back from a stint on Klyntar and let me tell you, it wasn't great. I don't want to go back. So if we're anywhere remotely close by (read: within one million lightyears), I'd like to go ahead and nope out now.

( Maybe this isn't the best way to introduce herself to an entire space fleet but, hey, Jean has never been one to beat around the bush. Being a telepath, she has an idea of how people's brains work and it's given her the overarching sense that she needs to just shoot straight ninety nine percent of the time. What's the point in subtlety? Say what you think, be bold, no regrets. It keeps people from misinterpreting your motives, anyway. )

Anyone got ideas on how I can get back to Earth from here? I don't want it to seem like it's less important than the former, because really, if I'm not anywhere near Klyntar I'm good, but I kind of have a team I need to get back to. I'm Jean Grey and I'm captain of the X-Men.

[It's the voice that gets her long before she hears the name and title. The looks hit her second because the styling of her hair is different even if it's the same vibrant tone of red. The uniform is very different and her face is free of her Jean's most identifying feature—the facial mark. But the face itself? It's still Jean. She's younger though. Maybe so young Jean won't even recognize her. But she also might not recognize her because she's pretty sure this isn't just a younger version of her Jean, but an alternate one. After all, she doesn't remember ever hearing about a mission to Klyntar or knowing of a time when the X-Men used the term captain for the various squad leaders.

But maybe most of all simply because even though Kurt is here she's much more used to seeing other versions of people she knows than the ones she remembers from home. She's seen more than one Wolverine and Kurt as well as Rogue, Storm, Piotr, Pietro, Wanda, Hank, Mystique, Erik and even another version of herself between the fleet and the prison, but this is the first time she's seen Jean since home. And even then it had been awhile. Jean and Logan and gone off on their own while she was still with the X-Men and then after Piotr was hurt Kitty and he went off to train the next generation. And then...she was supposed to die without ever seeing her again, but here they are.

She appears on screen and she isn't sure what to say for a moment. Tongue tied isn't normally her brand.]

Do you recognize me? [That feels like a stupid question. If she knows a version of her she'd have to be pretty young. Would that version of herself even have her powers yet? It's hard to guess Jean's age exactly.]

( Jean is a little tongue-tied herself, mostly because Kitty hadn't been this young when she saw her last. Kitty's a professor now, a responsible person, and Jean flees from responsibility when she gets the chance. She's been told she'll grow into it, of course, but that's not now. )

Yeah, I know you. You're a little younger, though, and less frazzled. Are you a professor yet?

[For a moment the question almost fits. Her last assignment was teaching and training. Emphasis on the training. But "professor" isn't a title she's ever had. And she's younger than usual?. Then again, ages were all messed up in Remy's world too. That Kitty and Kurt are basically the same age and Kurt should be clearly older. So should Rogue. Just thinking about it gives her a headache.]

I should be older and a professor, huh? Wow. [She shakes her head.] You know about alternate realities, right?

( Jean makes a noise that can only be described as a snort and tosses her head a little. Alternate realities. Alternate realities are her life, these days, and it's all she can do to keep from laughing out loud at Kitty's very-serious question. )

Boy, do I. I'm from one. The future version of Hank decided things weren't so rosy so he brought me, Scott, Hank, Warren and Bobby from the past to his future to fix things. I've basically been a time refugee since he had that stroke of brilliance.

( Jean cocks her head a bit. )

Which reality are you from?

[She listens, taking that in and trying to make some sense of it before nodding slowly. The players and the positions they play are very different between their homes but over time she's learned more about various other worlds. What they have in common and what they don't.

How to describe her world though... If only they were numbered or something. ~~hah!~~]

The one that was never supposed to exist. [An accident and disaster of a world that collapsed in upon itself until a version of the person she's looking at now becomes Apocalypse in a desperate and futile attempt to save what little is left of it. She'd never say she's glad she was meant to die there, but she is glad she never saw it happen. Kurt's the one who has all those memories.] A time traveler created it at least according to the one called Bishop.

( One that isn't supposed to exist. Jean thinks that can apply to an awful lot of versions of the world but she guesses this one isn't one she's too familiar with. She's sure the other her, the older her, the one people actually think is her, knows about this one. )

You know us time travellers. We can't keep our meddling to ourselves. How long have you been stuck here, though?

[She has a few things to say about time travel disturbances, but nothing that a fresh-faced Jean needs blame over. She didn't even choose to cross time. Sounds like there's another McCoy making bad choices. Hers still wins for worst though.]

Over two years now. And this actually my second... [Waves hand around.] one of these places.

You're not on the Marsiva, are you? [The backdrop isn't right. It's one of the other ships.]

( Jean gives her head a quick toss. The Marsiva had been an exercise in abject boredom and she'd apparently passed since they'd given her a bunk on another, much better ship. )

No, not anymore! They promoted me to the Vanquish.

The Vanquish. [She nods, quickly running through what she knows about the ship and who else might be on it. She looks at the crew rosters regularly, but hasn't committed them to memory. Not to mention they're ever shifting.]

I'll come over. [Just going to invite herself, you know. Mutant business.]

( Jean laughs. She had very little reason to believe she'd know anyone here in this Fleet, much less someone she actually knows as well as Kitty. Maybe it's a different Kitty but she's also not Kitty's Jean, so it works out. )

I'll be right here waiting. Nothing like a good afternoon to catch up, right?

Right. [It is good to see a Jean. So good. There was a time when Logan meant the world to Kitty. Okay, that time hasn't exactly passed even with more information, and Jean was always with Logan so Jean meant a lot too. It's not like she'd ever replace her parents, and if she was Storm would have been in the running too, but sufficed to say the woman meant a lot to her. But seeing this new Jean also means talking about her world. Her life. And so much of it isn't pretty. And not everyone is that accepting of a Magneto-founded and led team of X-Men that she's met.]

I'll see what we have in the way of snacks to bring over and then I'll be in the cargo bay there.

Snacks sound amazing.

( What? She's a growing girl - she needs her energy. Besides, it's been a long couple of days. )

You might want to wait on saying that until you see what I come up with. [She gives her a nod and cuts the feed. Then she finds a bag of crisped vegetable chips which Kitty probably would have found annoyingly healthy sounding before, but once you're in space for awhile it's amazing how much you can appreciate fruits and vegetables. Then she heads out on a shuttle, docking on the Vanquish and then phasing through the door instead of opening it, looking around for the redhead.]

( To Jean's credit, she doesn't launch on Kitty, but she is a bundle of energy once she finds her on board the Vanquish. )

Thank God there's someone I sort of know. I think if I was stuck here by myself, I would lose it.

[For a girl who actually phased the last time she was home and Rogue tried to hug her, Kitty has to hold herself back from being the launcher. It helps that Jean's so young. It's definitely a little jarring, but there's still a lot of familiar.]

You're stronger than that. [Something she's sure about despite just having met her, but she's glad she doesn't have to go through it alone.]

Kurt and Remy are here too. Kurt's from my world and Remy's from...I'm guessing neither of our worlds. [He'd never mentioned any time traveling X-Men.] He's also not actually one of the X-Men where he's from, but we tend to forget that. [It's easy to forget. To just think of him as roughly theirs.]

Well, I tend to think anyone who is a mutant is on my team right now so I'm going to consider you guys my team anyway.

( Jean wants to keep home as close as she can and knowing there's some mutants here that she knows of and that Kitty trusts is a good enough endorsement for her. )

Couldn't have said it better myself. [Mutants = team = family.] Even if I did want to throw Hank out into the vacuum of space when he first arrived. [It got better.]

( Jean giggles softly. ) Look, sometimes I want to throw Hank out into the vacuum of space too so you're not alone. He's still alive, though, so good on us?

Why do you want to do that sometimes? [She knows her own reasons. Or maybe it's just that one of them was more serious about it.]
