[The parties may have ended in most of the system, but at least in one corner, as the silver confetti and plastic cups are being swept up, it continues. This time it's not in celebration of the games but something - or someone - a little more personal to some of the members of the fleet. After all, Felix had promised, in a way.

A brief text message will be sent out the fleet]

There will be a celebration this evening in memory of our friend Lumiere, who has since departed the fleet. Regardless of whether you knew him, come enjoy yourself as I'm sure he would have wanted.

[The coordinates that follow lead to a small lounge-like venue near the beach in the Brightbirds territory. The main room is bright and cozy, hosting the featured entertainment for the night, orange-skinned men and women dancers in flowing, feathered, revealing garments who make sinuous circles around the room. Musicians with guitar-like instruments and drums play throughout the night, to accompany the dancers.

On the patio there is a buffet full of small finger foods like skewers of meat and candied fruits and various other decadently simple dishes. The bar is also nearby - though the drinks aren't free, they are available at a discount for the evening.

If you want a little more quiet, the patio leads directly out onto the beach, which is also set with small cushions and tables for you to enjoy your food and drink while you listen to the waves and the distant city lights reflected in the water]

She mostly told me about red flowers. They were her favorite. Although she did mention blue ones a couple times... [He drifts off for a moment trying to remember.] I think she said those are the ones that stand for love and desire.

So maybe I should start dyeing my coat blue instead of red.

My uniform is blue. I wonder if anyone I beat up felt loved and desired. [She smiles a little.]

Is she the one you want to go back to?

I'm sure that they did! Being knocked out by such a beauty? They couldn't have asked for more!

[He can't help but chuckle lightly at the thought.] No. She's not the one I need to get home to. [He pauses a moment to remind himself that he shouldn't keep things so hidden from her.] I would like if she would come here. She, ah, she died back home. A long time ago when I was a kid.

[She gives him an, "oh you," look as he compliments her. It softens into thoughtfulness as he talks about her.]

I think I know who you mean. I saw her during calibrations? [That was quite the intimate exchange of things they don't normally talk about.]

Yeah, I think you did. [He's quiet for a moment in thought.] I can't remember clearly, but I don't think you were the one who got the good memory. [It was like a hazy dream. Hard to remember who saw what and exactly what memory of his they saw.]

No, I didn't. There was a good memory in with the others, but not that one. [She squeezes his hand.]

[He squeezes right back with a sad smile.] Her name was Rem. She was basically the one who raised me.

And I promised there were more good than bad memories with her. [It was just the bad were really bad.]

Good times are important.

...You still looked pretty young when it happened. Who took care of you after that? [It may be too personal of a question, but she's worried she knows the answer. That it's no one.]

Well, Knives and I looked out for each other after that. There were some kind people now and then. [Some which Knives tried to kill, possibly even went back and did kill, but he was trying to keep the conversation light.] And eventually I found another place to call home. It was alright in the end. [Except, you know, that it wasn't.]

[Just hearing it was just him and Knives feels pretty heavy to her. They were both children and Knives was...like he was. AND WHO NAMES SOMEONE KNIVES? WHAT DID THEY EXPECT?]

What was the place like? [Considering he seemed to be a drifter she doubts it worked out too well.]

[Good thing he neglected to say how long he walked an endless desert alone with the person who murdered his adoptive mother then.

He smiles fondly as he thinks back about his second home.] It was actually a ship that had manged to stay in the air and avoid crashing on the planet. They weren't operational enough to get back out past the atmosphere, but just enough to stay floating and safe.

[It's not like she'd judge him for it. If there was only one mutant in a world she'd probably hang out with them even if they sucked. Maybe. If they were her twin? Probably.]

So you were just separated from everyone else for awhile? Is that who you were safe from?

More the elements. Sandstorms. Sand-worms. Drought. Sometimes not enough supplies to go around. The hot suns. [Yes suns.] On the ship they were able to ration everything out and live in comfort above the dangers of the world below.

[And away from the people. Vash would never admit it, but the people on the ship would have listed the people below them as their biggest fears.]

That must have been rough on the people not in ships. [Listen, she tried to say something that wasn't negative at all and this was the closest she got. Other things she thought about included how that coudln't last forever they must have run out of fuel or supplies eventually. And more explicit things about how that sounds like they weren't helping any of their fellow travelers. None of which she blames Vash for.]

[It's good she didn't mention that it couldn't last forever. Means Vash doesn't have to give one of his cryptic answers again.]

It's true. Life was hard for most people back home on the surface, but things are getting better. As we get accustomed to the planet. [And as people learn to properly use the Plants instead of ignorantly abusing them.] Humans are amazing survivors. [He says this as a good thing.]

[But cryptic answers are so much fun! But, yes, she figured those paths were probably all hard to walk down.]

They are. It's amazing and scary what you can survive.

I've so far found it's been worth living through to see the good life will eventually show. [He gives her hand a pointed squeeze as he says that. Leaning in to give her a kiss on her cheek.]

[She actually blushes a little being ind of referred to as the good life and kissed while walking on the beach. Okay, it's pretty romantic even if they were just talking about pretty grim things, but if she couldn't take a turn from grim she wouldn't be her.] Charmer.

Only on days that end in y.

So you don't play well with people who speak other languages then. Got it.

Hey! I play just fine! I'm just not as good of a charmer! Have you tried to use a cheesy pick up line on someone who doesn't know what you're saying? They just smile and laugh awkwardly!

[...] Actually! Come to think of it! Maybe I'm actually an even better charmer to people who speak a different language!

I'm making a tragic mistake, aren't I?

The worst mistake of your life. Want to back out?

Nah, I had nothing else going on. [Intertwining their fingers. She can't help think this would have made Lumiere happy. Not that she was doing it for her formerly candled friend.]

Lucky me. [He brings their intertwined hands up towards his face and kisses the back of her hand.]
