Taking out pirates!

[Her parents might not be here, but she's as much as Shepherd as she every was. And she is Chrom's daughter. She will do her father (and her mother) proud by making sure that innocent people are not being harassed by any ne'er-do-wells.

So, of course when a group of merchants asks for someone to work protection, the princess is there to lend her sword arm.

It might be the first time since she's been taken from home that she feels like she's doing the right thing. And when the pirates come in to attack the cargo ship, she's more than ready to take them head on.]

Look alive! We have unwanted company!

Birbs, birbs, birbs

[The longer she's on the Fleet the more she misses the pegasi, griffons and wyverns that came along with the army. It's not just the people she loves, but the animals as well.

But the moment she comes across the giant birds and see that they're used as mounts, her face lights up.]

Excuse me, are there any that I can rent to fly?

[When she gets an affirmative answer, a cute girlish squeak escapes her as she runs to find one.]

[Even without his parents here, Morgan has nothing to fear. It would be pretty pathetic if the future world's greatest tactician lost to a bunch of pirates, right?]

[It's not long before he's at Lucina's side, tome at the ready.]

Leave it to me! I've got your back.

[Even without their parents, Lucina's not going to let Morgan lose because it's just not going to happen. Nope. Besides, losing to pirates, brigands or anything of the like just isn't in her nature.]

Do you have your sword?

[There's a reason she gave you four of them, Morgan.]

I'll go left, you go right. And if you use anything major, yell first.

Of course! I never leave home without it.

[Morgan pulls out a small sword. The weapons here had been limited, but part of being a good tactician means being ready at all times. And Morgan is nothing if he doesn't take his future job seriously!]

[It's good to see that her gift to her brother hasn't been overlooked. The four swords might not have been as sentimental as the replica of Falchion he gave her, but she wanted to make sure he survived whatever ordeal they were stuck facing.

She would have to change her name (again) and hide if he died and their parents found out.]

Good. Let's go.

[The words are no sooner out of her mouth than she's dashing forward, sword raised to waist level with both hands and ready to thrust into the first fool who gets into her line of vision.]

[Morgan nods in response, as he gets in position to strike. He's not as quick as Lucina, nor is he as coordinated, but he does well enough. He slashes a few of the foes in his path before taking out his secret weapon: a tome he'd hidden under his robe.]

[He manages to get a few thunder spells off towards the people in Lucina's direction, better to give her a clear line of sight, but he doesn't do a particularly good job of making sure his side stays clear. There are a few pirates approaching him from behind.]

[If anyone never needed proof that they are a good team, this would be enough for them. Lucina is ready when Morgan starts firing off bolts of lightning, dodging to take out a pirate trying to climb up the side of the ship as thunder fries the man directly in front of her.

She whirls on her feet to check on him and her eyes go wide as she takes in the situation.]

Morgan! Behind you!

HITTING THINGS (I mean pirates. yes.)

[ Signing up to protect a cargo ship from pirates? Getting out of the spaceship and taking care of business? Getting paid to be a bodyguard? This basically was the Bull's best job. It was the ship's crewman's business to keep the pirates from boarding, but when that failed, he had his battleax, purchased from one of the merchants before taking to the skies, at the ready. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was sharp and well-balanced.

Pirates didn't deserve to get cleaved in two by anything else anyway. ]

Hell yeah! Now we're talking! [ He moves in beside Lucina, ready to charge when their grappling hooks find the banisters along the deck. ] Don't worry, Princess. The Iron Bull is with you.

[This is pretty much business as usual for Lucina. In fact, there was a portion of time that the Shepherds were actually under attack while travelling to Velm, so.... just like home. Sort of. And being paid is always a bonus, although she doesn't need the money.

When the giant horned man came along with her, Lucina never bothered to tell him no. It's not her ship and she's not stupid enough to turn down help when she's one person amongst many.

And she'll admit it later that it's comforting to have a combat veteran with her instead of some greenhorn.]

Less talking and more fighting. I don't think you're being paid for witty banter.

[Besides, she's awful at that, Bull. Just let her swing her sword to cut a few of the ropes so that the sounds of attempted boarders falling and screaming reach the deck.]

[ He gives the axe he purchased, rudimentary at best, a test heft as another grappling hook found a hold in the railing. He didn't move to dislodge it, though. Where's the fun in that? ]

Come on! Cloistered sisters board faster than you!

[ The shouts of anger and swears on his life just made him grin and he assumed a ready stance. ]

I'm being paid to keep the pirates away from the cargo, same as you. [ He chuckles. ] If they think they're getting anywhere near that hold, they've never messed with the Iron Fucking Bull.

[Laying it on thick? Yeah, kinda, but she started it...or something. ]

[She would bite out to not call her princess, but she is. She can't deny her heritage as it would seem a slight to her father and aunts. Perhaps even her mother, considering their relationship to Validar. She's a princess. It's just the way that he says it makes it seem like it should be an insult.

But she's not here to make friends. She's here to take out pirates. And, well, it's amusing to watch him work and talk at the same time. It reminds her a bit of Vaike, only with less idiocy.]

How about you brag less and fight more? If I wanted a running commentary, I would've hired someone to extol my exploits.

[ But he chuckles, though that laugh quickly turns into a grin of anticipation as the boarders finally get a hold and begin to head over. ]

Careful, Princess. Bards are spies, you know. Shit...finally.

[ A grappling hook grabbed the barrier next to him and he took a step back as the pirates' shouts came closer. There were more of them than he'd though. This was going to be good. ]

I think you'd fight better if you didn't talk quite so much.

[The truth is that she would fight better if he didn't try to distract her so much with his odd attempts to get her to warm up to him. He'd do better if he just fought and kept them both safe. It would go a lot farther with her.]

Anyone can be a spy.

[Luckily, Lucina isn't just the type of person to be content with one type of weapon and she takes out her bow to snipe the pirate coming up the giant man's unguarded side in the head.]

You never know. I might be a spy.

[Okay, he's all for people he knows having nuanced personalities, but the exclamation (and that little noise she makes) is so unexpected that he's taken aback for a moment. He'd honestly just intended to pass on by with barely a hello, because he probably shouldn't be racing anyway, but now he's wondering what all the fuss is about.

He's following her over, basically.]

You're interested in these creatures?

[Normally she's as taciturn as she can get because she wants to be taken seriously. She's seen a lot and experienced even more, but that doesn't mean she's forgotten what it's like to be a little girl, loved and spoiled by adoring parents.

Not even the company of Messer is enough to distract her from the fact that she'll be able to fly once more. She's missed it so much, even with the ability to travel in the shuttles. Nothing beats the feel of the wind in you hair and the sky under your feet.]

Yes! Of course! Aren't you?

[Messer glances dubiously at the creatures. He's... admittedly iffy on the subject; he prefers a stable and tested machine to carry him in the air, predictable and in his control. Animals bring an element of unpredictability to the table. It's more of a partnership, and he's not overly fond of leaving his fate in the hands of sentient strangers.]

It's not my preferred method of travel. Or rather, I doubt it would be.

[Since he's never tried it.]

[When one of the birds is brought over for Lucina to get used to, she puts a hand on the animal's neck and pets its feathers. While she likes Messer, BIRD, okay?]

There's nothing like being in the air, the wind whipping your hair around as you zip around the battlefield. It's the best feeling in the world.

[And on the back of a wyvern, it puts fear in the hearts of a great many enemies.]

The only thing you have to worry about is if someone is using wind spells or arrows.

[There's something curiously familiar about the passion in her expression; it reminds him of when he was given the authorization codes for his first variable fighter. Evidently it doesn't matter what you're flying in- a love of flying is still very much real.

The reminder of what sometimes feels like a lifetime ago is aching, but it's one he's long used to, so it's easy to rebury.]

Where I'm from we fly in fighter planes- enclosed, similar to the shuttles here but much faster and more maneuverable. It's been a long time since I've flown in the open air.

[Not since... high school? Technically?]

Then you should take this opportunity to get to do it again. I doubt they can go very far. They seem to be bred for bursts of speed than for sustained flight time.

[She learned a lot from Sumia and Cordelia.]

[It's not as if giant flying animals that are able to be ridden are new to Leia. It's more, birds of this size that can be ridden are new. And naturally, they have her attention just as much as they've captured Lucina's attention.]

[Lucina turns her almost beaming smile to the other woman and blinks.]

No, not as of yet, but there are many rideable creatures on my world.

[And the shuttles are not even close enough for her taste.]

Are you familiar with flying creatures as well?

[Leia tilts her head to the side slightly, thoughtfully, as she responds.]

I am, but it's been years since I've been able to see any of them in person, let alone ride one.

Well, now seems like a good time to reacquaint yourself with them.

[Lucina is very much pleased to have someone who can appreciate the joy of being able to fly without the confines of the space ships.]

We don't know how long we will be on this world, so we should take time to have some enjoyment while we can.

[oratorical]

[Leia nods, agreeing with Lucina's take on their time on this planet. There's no telling how long they'll be on the ships with no way to travel any sort of land after they depart here.]

Which one of these birds did you want to ride?

[Since they may as well fly together, since they're both here.]

[Lucina looks them over and stops in front of the large black bird that stares at her with big eyes.

She's reminded of staring down Minerva the first time.]

This one. I'm not interested in going so fast, but I'd like to go longer than a few seconds at a time.
