[He knows you probably mean crew mate.]
I have been here about a month, so even with the Augment there is a learning curve.

I'd considered switching duties to be of more use in the fleet, but maintenance isn't a completely worthless position.
[Just... incredibly menial most of the time.]

I will gladly help with anything. Staying idle doesn't really suit me.
[Sure, he needed the rest at first since is full moon cycle got shortened by his arrival but now he's fine.]

[He says, as he sits here catching fish out of the sky for hours. But at least it has a purpose!]
Some places we visit are more active than others, and during the drifting periods, side projects are useful for biding time.

[He gives Messer another nod.]
Thank you very much for the meal.
[And he goes and changes back. It sounds about as unpleasant as it did the other way around, but it doesn't show on his face, and soon enough the small, sandy-colored wolf is back.]

You're welcome. The ship should have a proper fish dinner sometime later.
[Polite, and doesn't overstay his welcome? This guy's cool with him already.]
no subject
One last nod, almost a goodbye from him, and the wolf trots away to disappear in the tall grass.]
