[ After recent events, it's especially nice to be able to have feet on solid land. The new system provides a sense of amazement, because floating land masses? That's unheard of. The shopping is nice, but wandering around is even better. It feels less claustrophobic, though he doesn't ignore the rumors of what lies beneath that mist. It's certainly something he's going to investigate.

It doesn't take much to recognize someone who doesn't quite fit in, and Daryl sticks out about as much as the rest of them. He raises an eyebrow, his stance at ease. ]

Are you with the Fleet? [ Of course he is, look at him. ]

[ For better or worse, Daryl sticks out pretty much anywhere except maybe the middle of the woods.

He still hasn't quite shaken the way civilization feels... unfamiliar. Probaby doesn't help matters. ]

Yeah. [ He sizes the guy up mostly out of habit; it doesn't sound demanding or threatening or anything. Also Fleet, he'd guess. ] Why?

Merely making an assumption, though it seems I was correct. Have you been with us long? I can't say that I've seen you about.

Not so long. [ He shrugs. ] Got here on the weird sports planet.

[ Planets. Whatever. Grudgingly, he'll admit the space Olympics were kind of enjoyable, but it doesn't make them any less ridiculous. ]

You been here a long time?

Oh, only about a year- not quite as long as some of the others, as it happens.

Seems like a lot of folks stay a long time.

[ Which makes him kind of antsy, because there's too much to be done at home, but... well. This isn't exactly awful. ]

Time is relative when it sits away from our own timeline, I believe. This could very well be years, but for us in getting back? Merely the batting of eyelashes.

[ Honestly he doesn't even sound particularly skeptical; it's far from the strangest thing he's seen here. And it's the slightest bit easier to believe since he's pretty damn sure he'd've noticed Maggie or Carl or any of them ever going missing. ]

Indeed, though it's mostly idle chatter. There are a manner of other, far more interesting conversations to be had.

I am from Thedas. More specifically, I am from the Tevinter Imperium. I take it you are from this 'earth' location that most of the others seem to hail from?

[ He's not hugely surprised at that lucky guess, or maybe it's the accent giving him away. A lot of people here seem to have earthly origins, even if most of them are from considerably less shitty earths. Lucky fuckers. ]

[ Which probably means nothing to this guy. ]

What's Thedas like?

[ Lucky guess, indeed. The accent is different, and one that he can't really place.

Yeah, Georgia means nothing to him. Maker, get ready for a geography lesson, Daryl. ]

That depends entirely upon which country you are speaking. Those to the north would consist of Tevinter, Seheron, Par Vollen, Anderfels, and Rivain. The south makes up the rest with Orlais, The Free Marches, Ferelden, and Antiva. There are only a select few I have not traveled to, nor the inclination to do so, as mages are hardly welcomed by their own.

Tevinter, Seheron, and Par Vollen have warmer climates, the Anderfels is a godless place and Maker knows what kind of lunatics would want to inhabit it. Antiva is tolerable, and anything below that is far too cold for its own good.

[ Well that's... a lot. Not just the geography, which is hard enough to envision without any real context to it, but that's an awful lot of opinions on places he's never heard of before. ]

Absolutely not. [ Daryl, if there's one thing to learn about Dorian, it's that he's full of opinions on things. Especially the magically-inclined. ]

This is certainly an entirely different endeavor that really can't be compared. There are some attributes that are indisputable in their efficiency, however. Communication, for one. These devices are wonderful and make documentation rather easy.

The stars, while unnerving and massive are quite beautiful and put life into perspective.

[ Look, sorry, he's a little skeptical; back before it all fell apart he really wasn't much of an internet guy, okay. Though he can't deny it's handy, being able to check on folks without traveling. He's trying not to get too accustomed to the luxury. ]

They make you feel rather small, and it makes your worries seem so much less troublesome.

[ Dorian has developed quite a fondness for modern technology and attire. They lack a certain flair that his own wardrobe does, but they're very flattering.

He casts another interested look at Daryl. ]

[ The answer takes him by surprise, and he hums at it, considering. The stars don't make his troubles seem any smaller-- the distance paradoxically makes them more urgent, distilling the knowledge that he should be doing something into a hard, heavy lump of restlessness.

Daryl is not good at leisure time.

As much as he'd rather not talk about himself, Georgia is a little easier. As long as they don't get into the details of its current state, overrun with corpses and all. ]

Hot, mostly. [ He shrugs. ] Not as much up in the mountains.

It sounds lovely. The hotter the better, so long as there's some humidity to it.

[ Isn't that the opposite of what most people want?

He nods, a little absently. It'd be hard to be homesick, with what home is like, but in a weird way he does miss Georgia. Maybe it's more missing the memory. ]

You won't be able to say it for much longer, however. Get a few different planets under your belt and you'll be a professional.

[ Not that Daryl doesn't look like he can't figure out his way around, though he doesn't seem to be entirely too keen on being in the public eye. ]
