Been by some, [ he nods. It's bigger, which makes it feel a little less weird. Plus it's a little more convenient, gathering everyone there. ]

Dunno martial arts, but we could spar.

Heh, yeah, that's what I think too. I was thinking about putting out a notice, seeing if we could get some sort of sign up or rotation so people could have usual partners, or at least find someone. I don't want to lose my touch.

[ Keeping in fighting shape is always a good idea, if you ask him-- even before the world ended he's been the wary sort-- but as the security officer he's doubly approving. ]

We run into trouble a lot?

[ He's curious, honestly. He hasn't seen too many planets. ]

I don't know if you would be called trouble, but they can be dangerous. We've had a few where it's been outright hostile, but thankfully not to many.

Things don't have to mean to kill you to do it.

No, I suppose not. I guess what I'm trying to say is we don't always go to places that are dangerous, but we hit enough of them that keeping up your skills is highly recommended.

[ At least, if he has to be stuck on a spaceship, he seems to be stuck with reasonably sensible people. That's a relief.

[ It's maybe a little overkill, but once they're drifting again he knows he'll be glad for the distraction. ]

Like I said, dunno nothin' fancy, but good practice. Anyone else wants to join up, we'll work it out.

Twice a week is perfect. If you like, I can teach you some too. I lead classes and helped instruct self defense at Star Fleet.

Anders surely can, and I have faith in Chekov. He serves under me back home, so he has the training. I'm guessing you can handle yourself just fine?

[ He can't help but hesitate. Since he's been here he hasn't said much about home to anyone-- he knows it'll sound strange because it would've sounded impossible, before it happened, and there are too many other subjects it opens up.

But then, maybe, people here ought to know some of that. ]

Sometime soon, [ he adds-- a bit of a non sequitur maybe, to return to the earlier topic. He's being cagey, he knows, but he's trying not to be. It takes him time, to trust people, but he's getting there. ]
