Twin Roses Mingle

[Since we last saw this crew in action it has been joined (or rejoined) by Yuri, Mikuno, Vision, and Wanda! Will there be growing pains? Drama? Intrigue? Tune in and see!]

Okay, when you say it that way it makes me sound a little strange. [Damaged maybe.] But...yeah, kind of. Just like being back home?

Oh yeah? [He takes her hand and gives it a squeeze.] Well, I'm glad I could make you feel back home. Even for a little bit. [Kind of?] But I hope you're not insulted if I say I'm going to try to never do that again.

[She squeezes his hand in return.] Not insulted. [She miles a little.] I appreciate the part where I wasn't hurt. I like that in a guy too.

I appreciate that too. [He frowns for a moment because he really wants to say that he could never hurt her, but he knows that would be a lie. As much as he doesn't want it to be true he knows one day he may unintentionally hurt her. Physically or emotionally.] I would have never forgiven myself if I hurt you.

I would have phased. I probably would have been fine. [And she might have been, but she can't really know that. Not all energy blasts interact with her phased state the same way.]

And for the record, if you ever do accidentally hurt me you should forgive yourself. I think you're living with enough of that. [She hopes he'd never do it on purpose. She doesn't think he would, but she's been hurt (killed) by men who she was sure would die to protect her, so what does she know?]

Hm. Probably. [He's pretty sure she would be fine, but he's not about to ask to test it any time soon.]

I would try to. [Although it sounds like he's mostly saying that to please her.] I have to admit, if I seriously hurt you, accident or not, it would be really hard to forgive myself. [There's the honesty that he's trying to do more of.]

[She does appreciate the honesty. She looks down at their joined hands. Not sure if she should really add some of her own or not. Maybe it's best he know what kind of person he's dealing with.] What if you knew...I thought about cutting your arm off to stop it?

I think that would be a pretty fair move. [He really couldn't blame her for that being on her list of solutions.] I mean, I'm pretty fond of my arm so I'm glad you found something else, but if it was a choice between a city and my arm? [He shrugs.] Would two robot arms mean I'm a cyborg at that point?

[She should probably be more surprised that he sounds okay with it, but it's such an X-Men sort of attitude. Also, from the looks of it, he doesn't always take the greatest care of his body as it is.] I'm glad you were able to stop.

Mmm...I'm not sure what the actual definition of cyborg is. I'd say no.

Hm, it's probably a fifty one percent ratio or something like that to be considered a cyborg.

Would you still casually date me if I was fifty one percent cyborg? [He says jokingly. Apparently already assuming he knows the answer to that. He's also careful to make sure the word casual is in there.]

If I say yes are you going to be reckless with yourself? [Yeah, he knows the answer. And she wishes she felt more guilty about hearing the "casual" than she does. It's still a source of comfort that she hasn't utilized.]

Let's be honest. I was going to be reckless regardless of your answer. [He says that probably with a bit more of a grin then he should for basically just admitting he doesn't take care of himself like he should.]

[She gives him a light punch in the shoulder, trying to avoid metal parts for her own sake.] Meanie. You deserve better, you know?

[The big smile on his face should tell her that he is only pretending to cry out in pain as he rubs at the area that she punched. It didn't hurt at all, but it's more fun to act like it did.] Ow! Yeah, but that would require me to think before acting and where is the fun in that?

[By joking with her that he deserves better he's hoping to dance around the issue. He knows that not agreeing would only upset or disappoint Kitty and that's the last thing he wants to do right now.]

[She rolls her eyes at him as he plays along with the punch. She knows it doesn't hurt.] And people call me reckless. [Actually, it's been awhile since anyone has actually said that to her, but the last time hurt enough to keep it ringing in her ears for awhile.

But she isn't thinking about him right now. She's thinking about Vash and the way he obfuscates when topics like this come up.]

Yeah, well, you're suppose to be the responsible captain so you don't get to be reckless. Save that for me. That way I can be the fun captain! [You know, the fun one that no one remembers is also a captain.]

I don't think that was the deal. I'm pretty sure it was more like I'm the captain and you get free rounds of pinball? [She says it in a light way, but she's like 99% serious. Hey, she can think he's a good guy and deserves better and still rather she was the captain, right? No? Still kind of a jerk for it?]

[If Vash is bothered by her answer he doesn't act like he is. He is fully aware of how he presents himself and acts. It would be more surprising for people to simply accept he's a captain instead of questioning it.]

You know, I was the captain twice on the Three Twins. The first time I got randomly assigned the crew panicked and everyone put in paperwork to try to remove the title from me. So, I think I can accept these terms of negotiation and be a Co-Captain and take your free rounds of pinball as well.

[He knows that's not what Kitty meant when she mentioned the pinball, but he doesn't care.]

I believe that. I'm also pretty sure the free rounds are unlimited and you can't actually take them.

[She doesn't know that Vash would be a bad sole captain exactly. Okay, strike that, he'd be a disaster, but only during times of conflict? She thinks he'd be pretty great otherwise for morale and watching out for people. But when she first arrived in the fleet she served briefly under a Natasha who is no longer around and then under Vision. And she really did respect and like him greatly. Then it was Wrath and while she had a lot of concerns about Wrath's memory and how far she might take something, by that time she was happy to serve under her as first mate instead of taking over. When she left and Kitty was moved up it was a big step. But she felt ready for it and the ship had come to feel like home. Becoming a co-captain felt like moving backward. It's also confusing in an actual hierarchical structure. But it's worked out so far. She hasn't felt like it's he place to ask him to step down officially and it feels further complicated with their relationship now. Also, maybe it's good for her. A balance. At any rate she hasn't gotten to the point where she does more than have a conversation like this one with him about it. And since he is rarely the one who wants to push for the real, deep talk she figures it will probably stay that way unless she decides to change it.]

But then I could have double free plays! [He says with a wink to show that he understands that's not how it works.

He would likely never admit and tell her that he likes holding the title with her. A little something they could share together. As much as he likes to play the idiot he knows who the real captain of the ship is. It's the one people would listen to in a crisis and that person isn't him even if he held the title captain on his own. So for now he stubbornly holds onto the title, but could very easily be talked into giving it up if she really wanted.

That is until that crisis came up and lives were at stake. Then it wouldn't matter to him who was captain or not. He would stand by Rem's teachings no matter what.]

[They share that. Title or not she's following what feels like the best course of action even if that means the aggressors have to get hit back so hard they don't get back up. It's not her first choice, but she doesn't always feel like there is a choice. Not one she's willing to live with. They could both step down or be stripped of the title, and it wouldn't stop them from doing what they have to do. Even if that brings them into conflict with each other.]

Right. Double infinity. [She knows he knows better.]
