[ loki is no stranger to space ships. though the kind of ships asgard uses are quite different in nature, he's read enough to be familiar with the make and feel of this one. he quietly turns on the recording device, squinting at it. very primitive but it'll have to do. he straightens himself, as befitting a prince, quiet and somber despite the nervousness. ]

Greetings. I am Prince Loki of Asgard. I wish to know about my whereabouts and swift return to Asgard. My father will not be pleased.

[ a pause as loki thinks of what else to add before pulling out a large knife he stole from the kitchens. ]

Also I have a knife.

[ new phone, who dis. seriously. he's missing an eye like odin and looks . . . familiar. but he knows his name?? ]

[Right, of course. Dumb question. Thor huffs at himself before scanning the image. At least it seems to be a ship, not the junk planet outside.]

You're on a ship, aren't you? [A pause as he glances at the knife.] That's not an Asgardian knife.

I couldn't find mine so I took it from the kitchen.

[ the man seems to know what an asgardian knife should look like, so he must have some familiarity. ]

Do you know how I can get home? Mother will worry.

[rebuildyourruins]

[Kitchen. So, probably the First Breath; he isn't aware of Loki frequenting any other ships. Thor's expression softens a bit though the concern persists.]

I know a bit about it. I think I know where you are, so stay there and I'll come find you.

[He's not about to spend this entire conversation on the phone.]

[ he blinks. ]

But who are you?

Iiii will tell you when I get there.

[Sure, delay it, that always works wonders. Thor snaps off the communicator before he gets dragged further into that line of questioning and heads for the shuttles.

A few minutes later Thor's striding down the First Breath's corridor and reaching for Loki's door -- only to stop and knock. It wouldn't be the best first move to burst in and prompt a stabbing.]

[ loki slowly opens the door, keeping the knife in one hand, just in case. ]

Now. Explain yourself.

[rebuildyourruins]

[Thor looks down at Loki, so perplexed for a moment that he forgets to answer. He remembers Loki at this age well, of course, but it's so jarring to see him like this. The knife only adds to the complete picture. Loki had often flashed knives around as a child to the point where Thor really ... isn't concerned about that.

He blinks and scratches his head, briefly considering a lie.]

You asked for my name? Well ... [Oh, fuck it, he won't last ten minutes in a lie like that.] It's Thor.

[dothelokimotion]

[ his expression crumbles to childish confusion instead of the placid, composed boy he was trying to portray. ]

That is absurd. Thor is not much older than me.

A couple of decades at best.

[Thor knows that. Everyone does. It's not much of a point in his favour.]

But that's true for you. You've found yourself in the future, Loki.

[ loki tentatively comes closer. ]

This is . . . the future?

[rebuildyourruins]

[Thor nods, quick to smile at the younger boy.]

It is, strange though that sounds. We're both far from home.

[dothelokimotion]

[ loki starts smiling tentatively. ]

Are we on a quest? Are you going to kill some monsters?

[rebuildyourruins]

Ah, well. You could say it's a quest to find the monsters.

[And then kill them. One step at a time though.]

Most others here are mortals from Midgard.

Midgard?

I thought they lacked the ability to travel through space.

[rebuildyourruins]

They do.

[At least in their reality. Thor won't go into the multitude of realities at play just yet.

Since Loki is willing enough to believe him, Thor comes into the room properly and sits on the bed. He's not about to crouch down in front of his brother - he's young, not a baby.]

They aren't here by choice, which is what I need to fix.

[dothelokimotion]

[ it's weird to see thor so . . . grown up. he reaches up . . . to poke the eyepatch. ]

Did Father make you lose an eye?

[rebuildyourruins]

[The prod makes Thor straighten up unconsciously, bafflement clouding his features.]

What? No, he didn't do that, someone else stabbed me in the eye.

Who? Who would hurt one of us?

[rebuildyourruins]

[Now this Thor has no problem lying about, or at least dodging the issue.]

Enemies, Loki, you know they're out there. This one just got a little too close. But don't worry - she's dead now.

Frost Giants?

[ he can't help blurting it out, eyes bright. ]

[rebuildyourruins]

[For a moment, Thor just looks startled. It shouldn't catch him off guard to hear Loki jump to Frost Giants as a foe -- but he's too used now to the truth. He blinks after a moment and shakes his head.]

Ah - no, no. Not one of them. Actually it was an Asgardian who wanted the throne.

[dothelokimotion]

[ that makes no sense to loki. ]

But only a son of Odin can take the throne.

[rebuildyourruins]

Yeah. [Sorta.] That's why I had to stop her. [Sorta.]

[ loki tugs at thor's sleeve. ]
