It's Party Time [ Open ]

While it wasn't broadcasted, between how many people were told and the fact it wasn't exactly a private affair on a very public beach, anyone was welcome to come to this little shindig. Kirk's feelings were mostly that they all could use a break and a chance to relax together as friends, family, teammates, or any other word you chose to assign to the relationships you had on the Fleet. It was a nice break from working in projects too. It was nice to have something to occupy yourself in a creative and useful way, but it was always a good idea to take a break and refresh the brain now and then.

Which was how he came to the idea of a party on Alloy Lake.

He scouted a scrap of land near the water to set up on - beach towels, a cooler with drinks, a mocked up grill to cook some food. He went out later in the afternoon to start with more than enough light to enjoy some swimming, though it would be dark soon enough for certain members to join without being uncomfortable. At which point, a bonfire was built. What? A lack of sunlight is never a reason to stop partying! Especially not with such good company.

By his smile he is clearly thrilled that Biffy has come. Or maybe it's the swimsuit. No one can really tell, so don't think to hard on it. ]}

Hey, I'm glad you came down. Also that you found a... swimsuit.

Are you going to go for a swim? Do werewolves swim?

[He lifts a brow as if the challenge him into saying something more about the swimsuit. It is perfectly reasonable and fashionable. Excuse you.]

Really now. What on earth would make you think werewolves don't swim?

[He'll settle for talking about that instead. Thank you. Also...]

Surely there were better choices in color for that tiny bit of cloth you're wearing?

_{[ Reasonable, sure. Fashionable, well, questionable. Even Biffy had to have his missteps. It made Kirk feel a little better. ]}

I wasn't sure how prevalent teaching someone to swim was in your era.

_{[ He looked down at his suit and back up at Biffy, an amused spark in his eyes. ]}

I would have thought you would appreciate a man showing off all his best assets.

[Biffy NEVER has missteps in fashion, Kirk. This is 100% the fashion of his time. Excuse you.]

I very much appreciate it. There is quite the show here that I'm appreciating. After all, I am far from blind. It is simply that after I took you shopping I would have thought you would have picked something equally as revealing but with more appealing colors.

[Look. That's really what he's miffed about. That he made the effort to help your style and this is what they're back to. It's just...unfortunate.]

Anyway, this is an exact replica of what men wear for going to the beach in my time. We actually made swimming a sport quite recently.

[Excuse him for puffing up a little with pride. He's always so proud of his country. He can't help it.]

It’s not like I threw out the closet full of clothes we bought. I wear the things you suggested. But a swimsuit wasn’t among those items and I happen to like this one. It fits, it looks good on me, and so far I haven’t come across another I like, color not withstanding.

right shade of blue, but it’s not like he did it on purpose this time. He’s
just not as concerned with such a minor item that he doesn’t pull out every

You participate? It’s great for exercise too - works the whole body.

[So he hasn't been able to obtain a better swimsuit. Well, he can accept that and he lets the matter drop. Instead he looks to the water.]

I was more partial to fencing honestly. Also, I have no desire to swim in any water associated with this planet. It just seemed appropriate to dress for the occasion.

Hmm, well, I can't really blame you for that.

_{[ He tilted his head at the other for a moment. ]}

I also would not have taken you for a fencer. Do you still practice it?

I have not for quite some time. I had other matters I had to attend to. Honestly I don't even have a sword here.

I mean, you can find practically anything on this planet. I'm sure you could find yourself a fencing foil or a rapier if you wanted. I think Looma has a forge? She could probably make you one if you brought her the materials, though I think she'd have thoughts on how delicate the blade looked.

I refuse to shop on this planet.

[He makes such a disgusted face towards where civilization is. You really can't pay him to shop here.]

With that said, are you interested in seeing me fence or fencing with me? Is that what has inspired this interest?

_{[ He snorted. Of course Biffy would refuse. But that was his decision.
Kirk for his part was happy to scrounge up scraps and work with them. You
didn’t shop here for immediate quality, you shopped here for quality in
bits and pieces. ]}

Both? I’ve been taking lessons with Kogarasumaru in that regard. I was attempting to learn back home too, from one of my crewman. It would be nice to potentially have a partner who isn’t my teacher.

He's the one who opened the dojo not that long ago, correct?

[He remembers seeing the feed for that. Of course he hadn't answered but he's at least walked past the dojo once or twice.]

It’s been interesting, but i enjoy it. I’d like to test out what skills I’ve learned against someone else sometime, if you’re interested. Though I don’t think right now I’ll offer much challenge, but at least I won’t simply flail about?

Sadly I don't think our styles would work very well. I was a fencer. It's an extremely different style of sword play to his own.

One of these days, Biffy, I will get you to accept a challenge from me. Wouldn't happen to be a chess player, would you?

[Biffy slowly lifts a brow at him, tilts his head to the side a bit.]

May I ask why you wish to challenge me at all? To anything really?

_{[ Kirk shrugged. ]}

Friendly competition, I suppose. An amiable challenge, if you will.

Good heavens. What on earth led you to believe I was suited to that sort of thing?

[He's really having to wonder what he's done to give off that kind of impression.]

You mean you've never had a friend whom you have some sort of rivalry with or have fun little challenges against? Some sort of game you two play on and off?

Absolutely not! All of my friends would never have sought out such things from me. Far better we find other ways to enjoy ourselves. I hardly see a reason to be tossing around such things for the sake of masculinity. It is remarkably old fashioned.

Well, I wasn't meaning we had to do something physical. That was just my first suggestion. I love playing chess as well. I could teach you 3-D chess.

Nor did I mean something entirely physical either. Though, I have a notion of turning down your wish to teach me this game when it seems you are so eager to challenge me.

Is it wrong to want to find new people to play against, regardless the activity?

To play against? Not at all. If it is for the simple pleasure of playing then that is another matter entirely. However, you have made it clear that you wish for me to accept a challenge from you and I really must put a stop to that since I have no desire for such a thing and would never enjoy it.

I think we’re both misunderstanding each other here. I’m not issuing a challenge as way to prove who is better. It’s not about a win or a loss. Its about both of us keeping each other sharp and from things becoming repetitive. Trust me, I know how easy that can happen. And it gets boring playing against things like computer programs or empty air. It’s why I try and spar against other people on the Fleet.

Basically, Biffy, all I’m wanting is to find an activity we can both enjoy together, as friends.
