It's Party Time [ Open ]
Who: Jim Kirk & You!
Broadcast: Nope
Action: Yes, Planet-side @ Alloy Lake
When: Sometime in the evening
While it wasn't broadcasted, between how many people were told and the fact it wasn't exactly a private affair on a very public beach, anyone was welcome to come to this little shindig. Kirk's feelings were mostly that they all could use a break and a chance to relax together as friends, family, teammates, or any other word you chose to assign to the relationships you had on the Fleet. It was a nice break from working in projects too. It was nice to have something to occupy yourself in a creative and useful way, but it was always a good idea to take a break and refresh the brain now and then.
Which was how he came to the idea of a party on Alloy Lake.
He scouted a scrap of land near the water to set up on - beach towels, a cooler with drinks, a mocked up grill to cook some food. He went out later in the afternoon to start with more than enough light to enjoy some swimming, though it would be dark soon enough for certain members to join without being uncomfortable. At which point, a bonfire was built. What? A lack of sunlight is never a reason to stop partying! Especially not with such good company.
[ ooc: It's a party on the beach! Make your own starters and have some fun! There's drinks - alcoholic and non - food, a couple of games or make your own, a bonfire later in the night with of course means some kind of smore, swimming, and more. In terms of invite, you can assume you were directly told by Kirk, or told by someone else, or the grapevine. It's open to all, so don't worry to much about it. Have fun! ]

[ Okay, good start. Probably. The mask was a touch creepy with not being able to see his eyes beyond the holes, but other than that the kid didn’t feel threatening. Just obviously hungry. ]
All right, that’s good - I just don’t want you to end up choking or anything and everyone to have a helping.
What’s your name?
no subject
[There's a pause before...]
I won't choke.
[He's sure of that. He's never choked before and he always eats like this. Honestly it's just how he's always eaten.]
no subject
[ That got a laugh from under his breath. ]
That’s comforting considering how you’re wolfing down the food. But I guess that means my cooking isn’t so bad huh?
You from the Fleet?
no subject
It's good.
[A bite and then he chews before swallowing it.]
Mm. The Heron.
no subject
The Heron huh? That's a good ship. You liking it? Getting enough to eat?
[ The last part is said with a slight tilt of his head, just a bit sassy, but not much. Kid looks like he needs it and it does mean there most likely won't be left overs. Less clean up for him. Which he realizes is an oxymoron on a trash planet. ]

[He really likes Bull too. He's glad the large man with the horns helped him to go there. On that ship he feels rather safe. Wanted. It's not the same as being with Yona but until he can see Yona and the others again this is as close as he thinks he'll get.]
no subject
Bull, huh? That's good. He's a very nice man, and it's good you have him looking out for you.
[ Not that there were necessarily any terrible people in the Fleet, but Bull, from the interactions he'd had with him, seemed at least honorable. ]
So what do you like to besides eat?
no subject
Well he kind of stares. Yep. He's somehow staring with that mask that seems to have no eye holes to it. He's staring and seeming to have no idea how to answer that.
Because he doesn't actually have hobbies? He's so used to surviving and being around the others who do things that he doesn't...do...things. Not himself. So he doesn't know what he likes to do.
And he wants to answer but his mouth opens and then closes as he just looks...lost.]
no subject
[ Well, he didn't have sea food on the menu that day, but looks like he was going to see some. He waited for a bit, but the poor thing seemed at a loss for words. ]
Do you like to play in the water, maybe? Or do you like to read? Draw?
[ He listed off a few to try and get his gears turning. ]
no subject
[He hates to be cold. He spent so many years feeling so cold while alone in the dark.]
...I don't know how to read.
[And he doesn't know if he likes drawing. He's never really learned how to aside from drawing images of what he sees in the dirt so he can communicate to others what he sees if he doesn't know what it's called.]
no subject
[ Oh, goodness, this kid. ]
Would you like to learn to read?
no subject
Before nodding slowly.]
no subject
All right. Well, if you like then, I can teach you to read. And math too.
We can work on it between planets. How does that sound?
no subject
And then...he runs away. Seriously. Off he goes.
He'll be back. Give him a few minutes.]
no subject
[ Oh. Oh well... okay? He had smiled though so it was probably okay? Maybe. If this had been a cartoon, many question marks would have been appearing over Kirk's head just then. As it was he decided to let the boy deal with whatever feelings he was having and not scare him and keep tending the grill. ]
no subject
And he'll find it's full of food. Shin-Ah's trying to say thank you and forgetting to use his words.]
no subject
[ Kirk took the bag and looked inside, and seeing the good, he smiles. He can understand the gesture, even without the words. ]
You know, once you learn to read and write, you can write out what your favorite foods are, or find recipes for them to make.
no subject
[Basically he's one of the least picky eaters of all time. Plus he doesn't know how to cook so it's probably better if someone else makes the food for him.]
no subject
Hah, all right, so maybe let's limit it to your favorites then. And if you learn to read and write, you can write how to make some of those foods and the cook on your ship could maybe help make them for you.
[ There's a twist in his heart as he thinks about it - about pulling out the young reader books he had gotten for Fenris to help the elf learn to read as well. But they would be better served helping someone else learning than gathering dust. He was sure Fenris would appreciate that. ]
no subject
In the end he nods.]
...Thank you.
[That's what he'll settle for in the end.]
no subject
[ Good enough. Kirk has gotten the notion that talking is not this guy's strong suit, but that's all right. ]
Okay. Good. Well, why don't you come over to the Tourist tomorrow night and we can start our first lesson?
no subject
[Since he can't read to know. Luckily he thinks that Lup or The Iron Bull will tell him no problem.]
no subject
Oh. If it's easier, I can come to you on the Heron.
no subject
no subject
It's not trouble, I'm offering.
