[It's a riddle to solve. He happens to like those. Connor steps away from the wall, giving the other man a closer look.]

I haven't been on an alien planet before. I want to find out about it all.

[ananym]

[ a thirst for knowledge. it makes him smile briefly. ]

I suppose no one can fault you for that, though I do not think putting strange fungi in your mouth would benefit you much.

[Connor's eyebrows tick up slightly.]

I was analysing its chemical composition.

[ananym]

[ alucard looks confused. ]

With . . . your mouth?

[coinstability]

Yes. [Said as though that's the most normal thing in the world. But he's reminded that it isn't, even back home, so he continues:] That's how it works for me. I realise it's not conventional.

[ananym]

Certainly not for humans.

But I am guessing you are not?

[coinstability]

I'm not, no. I'm an android.

[A curious way of putting it, though. Connor gives Alucard a cursory scan to see if anything's out of the ordinary there. He notes a slightly slower heartbeat than the norm, but nothing outright alien.

If 'alien' even has much meaning out here, where he technically is one.]

[ alucard looks confused. he's never heard that term before. ]

Could you clarify?

[Oh boy, okay. Connor's had fairly good luck with the name being understood by most people, but there have been some who don't know it. Looks like this man is one of those. Connor rubs his hands together in thought before he glances up again.]

It's a term for a robot designed to look like a human. Mechanical, not organic.

[ananym]

[ some manner of comprehension dawns on alucard and he looks impressed. that doesn't happen often. ]

Really? So you were created by someone else?

[coinstability]

That's right. I take it you don't have something similar in your world?

[ananym]

Not at all.

[ vampires could turn humans, certainly. forge-masters could reanimate the dead, but creating something entirely new? that was beyond them. ]

I'm not surprised. It seems like most worlds don't have androids, at least not in the way mine does.

[Which is hard to imagine for him, and a little sad. His whole kind just doesn't exist on most versions of Earth, let alone other planets.]

[ananym]

[ alucard nods. ]

My current time period is too far behind for such an advancement in technology.

Oh! Of course - I've heard about the various points in time people can come from here as well. Even for those who come from a version of Earth, I've not heard of anyone being from the same year as me yet.

[Connor considers that a moment, rubbing at his chin before looking back up at Alucard.]

Are you from a version of Earth?

I am. I hail from a continent known as Wallachia. The year is 1476.

[coinstability]

Wallachia? [Connor doesn't know that one. Maybe it was a name only briefly used in the past, and not relevant enough for it to be part of his information base. The year is a different matter.] That's nearly six-hundred years before my own time. It's no wonder you haven't heard of androids.

It resides near the South Carpathian mountains, next to Transylvania.

But yes, many people are not aware of plumbing and heating. The common folk live poorly and without proper medicine or science.

[coinstability]

Ah, I see. [He does know about Transylvania. That gives him a better idea of location.] That sounds right, from what I know about that time in history.

I am from the year 2038, on a continent known as North America. I don't believe it had been located by Europeans in your time yet.

[ananym]

Another continent? No, I have not heard of it.

[ that's neat. knowing there's more to the world. but alucard has always known that, even if he hasn't explored it. ]

That's not surprising, given your time period.

[Part of him is flagging how ludicrous it is to believe he's talking to a man from the actual Dark Ages, but that part of him has been flagging things non-stop since he got here. He's gotten better at ignoring the blaring warnings about logical impossibilities.]

Is the nature of space travel difficult for you to process?

[ alucard pauses, taking his time to answer. ]

No. I believe we have the ability to surpass all limits, so to hear that we have succeeded does not surprise me.

[coinstability]

I imagine the information provided by the augments also helps with that.

[ he nods. ]

Certainly. And I've never been one prone to anxiety or panic.
