Not necessarily hostile- at least, not always. But they don't have to start fights to be unwelcoming to somebody. People can be subtle about it. Do androids understand what passive-aggressive means?

[It's easier for some to be assholes to androids, that much she knows. An android might be harder, looking like people the way this guy does, but there's plenty who are assholes to other real people, so...]

I know what it means. I've also seen it in practice.

[He hadn't known, specifically, that it was directed at him. Or maybe it was more that it was irrelevant at the time, and more often people skipped the 'passive' part and moved straight to 'aggressive'. He understands being shoved into a wall more readily than subtle digs at his existence. Those aren't so subtle anymore, at least.]

You're gonna get different experiences in all different environments, that's just the nature of people in general. Or sentient beings, I should say. Sometimes you don't find people at all.

Yeah, I've found that's true. Both here and at home. [Connor wrings his hands together a bit, keeping an eye on the lay of the path in the dark cavern before giving Lup a sideways look.] Of course, this is my first time in a different environment from the one I know at home, so what interests me is what differs in this world.

Well, the good news is, you're in a stellar position to learn all of that here, if the fleet travels as much as I've heard it does. I've visited over a hundred different worlds myself, and damn near every one was crazy-different from the last. It's a big universe.

[Hoooopefully that's not a scary thing to hear? She mostly just finds it exciting, though after this long it's hard not to feel kind of tired about the idea of doing it all over again.]

That would make for a busy month, huh? But no, definitely not here. I used to live on a ship that traveled between planer systems, once per year.

Technically 99 years, since world 100 and 101 happened here, but yeah, that's what I'm claiming.

[She grins. So he knows about elves, but not their lifespans, huh.]

[She says, not looking especially ladylike in a spelunking miner's cave. It's also said teasingly- a moment after whatever his reaction is, she shrugs.]

A little over 200, by last count. Things can get kinda hazy in the early years for most folk.

[A genuine question there. Between a lack of sarcasm experience and a surplus of police questioning ability, he didn't think it that rude a question. ...well, maybe he was a bit incredulous in asking it.]

I take it that elves have a much longer lifespan than humans do, then. Most humans only live to approximately eighty years of age.

Joke, just a joke. Well, some girls might be offended, but it's all good.

[She nods- that lifespan sounds about right for the humans of her world, too.]

Elves can live for more than 700 years, and we don't age much after 20 or 30. At least, that's how it works with the elves of my planer system.

That's an incredible length of time. There aren't any sentient beings on Earth who live anywhere near that long.

That sounds normal, yeah. How long do androids live?

[Since he seems awfully sentient to her.]

We can self-sustain for decades, but it's a bit of an open question. Androids like myself were only created twenty years ago.

[There's also the small matter of androids being regularly junked in favour of getting new models. Connor suspects that the RT600s in Kamski's house are probably the oldest ones in existence, if the man had kept them from the very first production.]
