Grumpy Bird
Who: Robin
Broadcast: Yes?
Action: Marsiva & SS Goldstone
When: 4/12 - 8/12
MARSIVA
[Tim wishes he could say he woke up alert and already assessing his environment but the truth is, he's very slow, very groggy and extremely confused when he first edges towards consciousness. It's only the cold from the barren Hospitality Deck that speeds up the process. He curls up and tries to reach for blankets that his sleepy mind tell him should be there. Only their absence has him sitting up to assess his current surroundings.]
First Hour
[Tim's first priority is his own body. He appeared here still in his Red Robin uniform and after a quick pat down, he realise that's all he's been left with. No grappling gun, no bo staff which he is not happy about but at least his identity is still safe.
Standing he notices the large viewing bay first and is immediately drawn to it. Hands find themselves against the glass-like surface and he cranes to see all he can. The constellations are wrong; well not wrong but wrong for any system Tim has in his memory. He takes a couple of hurried steps back as if to take in the bigger picture. Shoulders squared, breathes coming in and out to a precise mental count, his head cocks to take in the screen playing out the default Drift Fleet Encouragement Messages.
Deep breathe in, slow breathe out.
Stuck out in an unknown system, on an unknown ship, for entertainment purposes.
Perimeter check. Yes, we can handle that.]
First 24 Hours
[The perimeter check happens. Tim goes over the entire Hospitality Deck with a fine tooth comb. First he goes over it in a basic walk through, then he ransacks the entire place; strips the beds of any sheets, opens every cupboard and every container. Then he puts everything back exactly where it was before. If it wasn't so sterile to begin with you'd swear it was neater than before.
Anything small enough in the Medical Bay will be sneaked away into pockets in the belt.
Samples of the water is steamed and then frozen and then defrosted before the food get a familiar assortment of tests. Unless he finds something that resembles coffee he does not consume any of it.]
The Next 48 Hours
[Sleep doesn't happen, it doesn't even appear to be considered. He walks along each wall, running his fingers along looking for seams and he spends a little time using the kitchen cutlery trying to pry it away at the seams.
He gives up.
He spends a little time pacing in front of the large viewing windows.
He eventually finds or clears a large empty area and falls into a series of katas. This continues for hours until Tim is a panting sweating mess on the floor.
Tim approaches the showers and glares at the walls suspiciously looking for cameras. He glares at the showers. He leaves, stripping one of the cots of a sheet and ripping it long strips from it. He then weirdly flips his cape over his head and shoulders. When he emerges, the strips of cloth are being used as a make shift zorro style mask and the cowl from the Red Robin uniform has been removed. Shower is had.
Unfortunately after re-emmerging, Tim seems to have gotten an idea and anything resembling a sheet or blanket is pulled from wherever it lives, chairs and cots are rearranged however he can manage and over a couple of hours a blanket fort is constructed in the Hospitality Deck.
Anything that resembles alfoil/aluminium/or that makes a crinkly noise is placed around the perimeter and through the most obvious entrance as Tim disappears inside.
The Last 24 Hours
[Tim sleeps.]
SS GOLDSTONE
[Tim jumps and is on his feet in seconds when confetti and welcoming music suddenly break the absolute silence of the Marsiva; or what was the Marsiva anyway. Surprised eyes scan over what looks like.. a lounge? It certainly looks more lived in than the last one.]
Hello? Is anyone there?
[He doesn't drop his defensive stance as he turns to take in the exits to this room. His cowl is still down but his make shift 'zorro' mask remains on. It looks silly.]
If you're an alien who has kidnapped me, I'd very much like to speak to you?
[Speak to you, beat you up, he can multitask.]

If you're an alien who has kidnapped me, I'd very much like to speak to you?
[Speak to you, beat you up, he can multitask.]
video;
[Taako shrugs at that. He can't really deny that this life is insane. And he hadn't even gotten to all the weird shit he'd done after being a celebrity chef and before coming here. Just glossed right over that part of his life.]
You're gonna be bored as shit on here, my dude. It's literally just people wanting to see us live our lives. No freaking clue why, but we just travel from planet to planet and do stuff. Whatever you want. Want to blow up a building? Sure, go ahead. Want to make some clothes? Mkay, nothing stopping you.
Apparently, there are cannibals or something sometimes, and they got pirate-raided once and sometimes our unseen overlords ask us to haul freight, but it's pretty boring normally. Up to you to get into shenanigans. Maybe you can punch baddies trying to ruin Candlenights or something.
Re: video;
Maybe I can view this as a vacation? Actually, I'm already bored thinking about it, so you're probably right.
Do you still do your cooking show? For our current audience?
and what's Candlenights?
video;
I make sure to entertain even if no one is watching, my man. A lot of people aren't so sure there is an audience, but I'm not gonna let a moment of fame slip by if I can help it.
And Candlenights is Candlenights. End of the year, lots of present giving, celebrations, all that sort of stuff. Non-denominational, natch, since there are literally dozens if not hundreds of gods out there.
Re: video;
Did you just turn that apple into an orange?
[Candlenights sounds like a nice alternative to many different holidays happening at once but he's distracted now.]
video;
He flips the orange through the air and when he shows it to him again, it's a grapefruit now.]
What d'you mean?
Re: video;
Magic? some kind of transmutation? that would make for a rather interesting cooking show I will admit.
video;
Made for one hell of a show. And it makes cooking here easier. Unless you're on a ship with people who give a shit, you're going to be putting up with protein gels and crap. Unless you earn some cash and drop by the Melting Pot on the Iskaulit. We serve the real deals down there.
Re: video;
[Tim is still moving about the ship and has reached the kitchen, and he's noticing the weird choices. There does appear to be a coffee pot through which he shows through the communicator.]>
Well there at least appear to be the essentials.
How does one go about acquiring cash and access to the Iskaulit?
video;
[Which he could and now might actually do it.]
Money comes in from our 'overlords' on occasion, but doing interesting shit seems to increase the amount. Iskaulit's easy - just jump a shuttle from your ship and pilot it over. It's the bigass one that isn't the Marsiva.
Re: video;
Which ship is yours? For some reason, I do know mine is the Goldstone and what weapons it's currently equipped with. Which I shouldn't, considering I've never been on this ship. Is that normal?
Are you sick of these questions from every newcomer?
video;
[He grins and the apple is set off screen.]
You're probably security officer then. They put shit in our heads that explains the basics of what you're supposed to be doing. They apparently thought I needed information on how to cook which is, frankly, insulting. But it was handy to know some shit about space since I'd never been.
[Except for the moon base which didn't really count, did it?]
And I dunno about every newcomer. I just got here a few months ago myself and if you hadn't been wearing a dumb bedsheet mask, I probably wouldn't have talked to you.
Re: video;
Masks tend to come with the job description but the cowl isn't really fit to be worn all the time; hence the bedsheet.
[He shrugs.] Different places different habits. In my world, the um.. witches hat would be the thing attracting more attention.
video;
Wizard's hat, thank you very much. There's a big difference between the two.
[Mainly the person underneath it.]
Maybe you should get yourself a hat like this. They're meant to be worn all the time - much more versatile and fashionable than bedsheets and cowls.
Re: video;
Well, I don't want to take your thing? You seem like a person who thrives on being unique. [It's not supposed to be an insult but certainly sounds like one. Tim just means he doesn't like the spotlight]
and I don't think I'm really a hat person.
video;
[But most wizards have hats, so it's not all that unique. He just likes to put his personal flair on it - colors, stars, flowers, whatever fits his mood for the day.]
Maybe you should just look into getting a new mask that doesn't look like a haphazard throw together. Go for the full display - Phantom of the Opera-style, go for the masquerade, I dunno - bedazzle that thing like a disco ball.
[Is he serious? who knows! Maybe.]
Re: video;
[Tim sits the communicator on a counter and steps back to show off the cape and take a bow.]
There's a different kind of flair, drama to it.
video;
[Wait.
Wait a second here.]
Did you say "bats"?
Re: video;
Ah yes, Bats. As is Batman, the crime-fighting vigilante who resides over Gotham. Where I'm from.
And his partner, Robin. [He bows again.] Me; or I was, technically it's Red Robin now but honestly, it just gets more complicated. [He sighs]
So yeah that's basically it. Any questions?
video;
He bursts out laughing.]
Oh my gods, a batman? What did he do? Fight with echolocation? And holy shit, are you like, actually bird themed? Do you turn into a bird? This is the greatest thing I've ever heard! A bat and a bird fighting crime? Fuck! Roswell would've loved this!
Re: video;
Look, you just don't understand. Batman is just something Gotham needs alright. He's considered my world's greatest detective and is a symbol of.. oh never mind.
[He pouts.]
How about we just pretend I never bought it up. Let's talk about you instead. Who is this Roswell?
[It's a pathetic attempt at redirection, which he is berating himself internally about.]
video;
Oh heeeeeck no. There's no taking that back. I'll never be able to forget how a bat-man is the world's greatest detective. It's almost as ridiculous as the detective I know.
[Who is legit a 12 year old boy.]
So? What powers do you got? Flight? Magic eyes? Piercing caw-caw noises?
Re: video;
I don't have any powers. I'm human, just one with a lot of training and access to a lot of high tech gadgets.
How is the detective you know ridiculous?
video;
[And his little magic boy, but still - ten years old. Taako snickers.]
So nothing? You just dress up like a bird next to a giant bat? Or is he, like, an actual bat? Or a half-human, half-bat? Holy shit that would actually be terrifying, but also hilarious.
Re: video;
[It probably says something about Tim that a ten-year-old detective doesn't seem ridiculous]
No, Batman is a man, but for those who don't know him, he's considered pretty terrifying regardless.
There is a Man-Bat who is, in fact, half-human and half-bat.
video;
[But here we go, laughter anew. Batman and Man-Bat? What screwy world does this guy come from?]
Are they cousins? Please tell me they're like, distant cousins.
