Do I want to know how old you are? [She reaches up to see if she can grab the mistletoe now. Maybe it's no longer protected. Her theory pays off and she pulls it down, grinding it under her shoe. She knows that won't stop it from reappearing later, but it feels good for the moment.]

I'm 17. [Pause.] That's not going to be a problem, is it? You can't be that much older.

[He actually bends down to inspect the ground up plant. He was curious to know if it was causing the force field or something built into the door. But no normal looking mistletoe.

[She moves out of the way to let him inspect it.] Well, if I can't be then I can't be I guess. [For a moment she sounds like she's going to leave it there before adding.] I'm still 22 right now. [Five years sounds like an impossibly long span of time to her in this direction and yet she's very chill seeing a guy who is a hundred years older.]

I'm just saying you don't appear to be that much older.

[He leaves the plant] Thank you for the help though. I mean you could have just given me a wide berth and had a laugh so yes, thank you.

I have no idea how long you would have been stuck. Or you might have ended up in there with someone far less adorable than me.

Careful. I did just mean with kiss saving. That's too high a bar to set for regular old saving where few if any kisses are involved.

Not that there isn't Batman merchandise out there? and we do make money from some of it but it's one of those all proceeds go to charity kind of deals.

Well, rest assured there's nothing like that back home. We don't even have money anymore. [For terrible reasons, not enlightened ones.]

The second one. I mean, the occasional barter probably happens in refugee groups too. I don't know.

We all live through what we live through. It got to be my normal. [That doesn't exactly make it easier, but she's not sure how to accept people apologizing to her for it. She knows they mean well. She'd probably say the same thing in their place. She's not offended. Just a little awkward about it.

Yeah, I know but I don't like that there are people who have to live this kind of normal. I would change it if I could.

Well, that was what I was working on. If we were all self sacrificing where would we be? A very sad paradise?
