Training Day
Who: Kolivan and YOU
Broadcast: Nope
Action: On the Iskaulit
When: Today!
[Kolivan has been getting more familiar with locations here but one thing is clear...he needs to keep up with his own personal training. This may be a peaceful time here but he knows there are dangerous people already in this place. People he needs to prepare himself for should they decide to be anything less than peaceful.
So he's either in the gym or the obstacle course when he's not attending to his duties on the ship he was assigned. It means he's not asleep much but then again it's not like he is one to spend much time at rest. Not when he feels that there is a very real danger he needs to be prepared for. Just in case. Because he doesn't ever want to be caught off guard again and overwhelmed. He wants to be able to face his foes head on and not lose.
This also means it's easy enough to come across him and even if he doesn't look your way instantly it seems rather clear that he already knows you're there. Like he sensed your arrival. But it's only when he's finished a series of complex movements (with his sword and legs in the gym or through the more complicated area of the obstacle course) that he actually acknowledges you.]
Do you need something?
[It's gruff but...he's always like this. Don't mind him.]

[They both know that Ulaz is just wanting to join in and looking for an excuse to do so. And honestly? Kolivan might have missed these times with his old friend. Especially after his death.
Of course he'll never admit it but still.
And he simply turns to walk back to the middle of the room.]

[Ulaz is entirely unphased by the indication he's joining in the training. It was normal. This was how the Blades operated after all. When he trained new Blades, he did the same thing: "we are training now". An enemy wouldn't give them warning after all.
Besides, he had been fishing for the invite. Not that he couldn't just pull his blade and start it on his own, but given their age and his seniority within the Blades, the option to wait was more of a sign that he didn't intend to challenge Kolivan for something more important, such as leadership. He didn't want that in responsibility in the least. And it had been a while since they had been around each other.
But now, permission granted, he put his kit away as he followed in that direction. Luckily he did actually happen to be wearing his armor today so pretty much mid-stride, he put his mask up and grabbed his blade, making the first swing with his sword]

The clash of blades is intense, looking more like an actual fight than a simple sparring session. Just what he would expect from one of his Blades.
And he doesn't go easy on Ulaz either. He rushes at him full force to slash right at his throat, aware that the other can easily dodge the blow. He expects it of him.]

He knew Kolivan would be prepared for him to attack before turning to face him. He would have been surprised to not have his attack blocked by the leader of the Blades.
It had been a while since he had properly sparred with another Blade, but he is unconcerned. If he lost so easily, he deserved to lose.
He jumps back as Kolivan slashes out at him. Moving is something that he’s good at, given that its one of his major evasive tactics. Size is very slightly on his side here, being shorter than Kolivan, but that was not something to count as an advantage. With the space between them, he practically launches himself back at Kolivan, swinging at him again]
no subject
He has a feeling Shiro would hate this. What with his odd concern over him fighting his ship mate when he first arrived.
Well he can be grateful he has some of his Blades here who understand what it takes to properly train. To really push yourself to improve in combat. It's never easy and it always has to be something that likely will result in injury.
Hence why he changes tactics to sweep his leg around to try upsetting Ulaz's balance.]
no subject
He recovers from the throw quickly, enough to be able to block the incoming attack so that Kolivan couldn't injure him - from that attack at least. He gets back to his feet, still holding his guard.
At least until Kolivan tries to trip him up. He lets himself be "swept off his feet", using that as an excuse to backflip backwards, putting distance between Kolivan and himself before launching again at Kolivan. This time, he dodges to the side, keeping low as he attacked. The more Kolivan had to move to get to him, the better his advantage even if it was only minuscule]
no subject
In truth, he prefers it that way. It keeps him on his toes to be ready for anything like he needs to be. What Ulaz can give him in a fight is what he needs.
But he still has to fully turn to face him. That's an advantage for Ulaz. He'll deal with that in a moment. For now, he swings around to face him, striking out to defend himself before sweeping the blade away so he can strike back.]
no subject
Ulaz's blade was easily blocked by Kolivan, stopping Ulaz still in a crouch, holding his blade in front of him. As Kolivan sweeps it around to break the stalemate, Ulaz propelled himself backwards before he could be struck, jumping to the side to try and get to Kolivan's side in order to make another attack]
no subject
Were this anyone with less training they'd most certainly be dead.]
no subject
As Kolivan rushes him, Ulaz has to immediately dodge, pushing back at the same time. He’s quick with his blade as well, blocking with it to keep from getting hit. In the effort to do so, he didn’t care where Kolivan’s blade struck on his – sharpened edge or the flat edges, whichever was more efficient to keep Kolivan’s at bay.
Anyone else would have been dead. Ulaz is still uninjured.
And with that, he swings and tries catch Kolivan's sword with guard of his, an attempt to disarm him]
no subject
His flips his blade up into the air, releasing it as if it's knocked out of his hand. He then shifts forward to actually throw the full weight of his body right into Ulaz's chest. It's true his sword is his weapon but they are Blades. They're entire body is also a weapon and he proves that here even as his hand reaches back behind him to catch the sword as it falls with his opposite hand.
He won't let himself be disarmed. Not again.
There...might be some things that should be discussed with Ulaz at some point.]
no subject
This of course throws Ulaz backwards as well it should. Ulaz’s size is an advantage to his speed while Kolivan’s is an advantage for repelling attackers. He keeps a grip on his sword as he is propelled backwards, regaining his balance easily and quickly.
For the moment, he doesn’t resume his assault, standing his ground with his sword at the ready]
no subject
And maybe, just maybe, he wants to really throw himself into this because this is Ulaz. One of his friends who he lost in this fight against the Galra Empire. The one who knows how to get on his nerves simply because they're that close. It's not been the same without him.
He's...almost glad at the same time that he never saw him at his lowest moment. It still kills him anyone did even if he's grateful to those who found him.
Perhaps putting more than his usual effort into this is just his way of saying without words that he's missed his old friend.]
no subject
He blocks the incoming attacks with ease, moving back as needed to keep Kolivan from getting too close. That is more disastrous because it reduces the time Ulaz has to counter.
He knows about what happened to the Blades, details limited from what Shiro had told him, but he knows. At the same time, he doesn't want to know too much more. He had needed to go work off some of that anxious energy when Shiro had told him. He never would want to see Kolivan in that situation.
Even more so because of that, he appreciates that Kolivan is here to spar with him.
When he has an opening, Ulaz makes his own attack, swinging his sword around, aiming to strike Kolivan]
no subject
He shifts his weight to lower himself down just as his arm comes up. He has time to block the swing this way, Ulaz's arm hitting his own. Were they fully without their armor this would have caused them to likely both break their arms. A matter he can take into consideration later because he is now taking on all of Ulaz's weight with one arm.
His eyes narrow and he uses his shifted stance to help push himself up, slowly forcing the other Galra back.]
no subject
Well, this new stance was good for Kolivan. Bad for Ulaz. He was stronger and had more raw strength to throw around than Ulaz did. Ulaz attempted to plant his feet, sliding on the floor despite it. Very few could get Ulaz to move so easily.
He slid backwards a bit before attempting to extricate himself from this, attempting to throw himself to the side so he could tuck and roll out of the way]
no subject
No, this is the full weight of his body that he's sending right at Ulaz to barrel into him with the intention of slamming him to the ground.]
no subject
Thus he took Kolivan's full weight as he slammed into him. A stubborn Blade to the end, he attempted to twist out from Kolivan's reach one last time, but he still ended hitting the ground.
He may not have been completely out of practice, but he was apparently out of practice with an opponent larger than himself]
no subject
Ulaz is clearly out practice with larger opponents but he's pleased to see his speed is still the same.]
We'll need to train regularly to get you used to larger opponents again.
[That's Kolivan for "I had fun."]
no subject
Yes, he speaks “Kolivan-ese”. He knows the hidden message in there]
Yes, I think we will. I have been disadvantaged in that area for some time. I will accept all the training you will give.
[He'd had fun too, Kolivan]
no subject
[Because it's clear that Ulaz has been. He still moves well and his speed hasn't degraded. All good signs. Still, it leaves him curious to know who he's been sparring with him since it means that he'll have to keep an eye on those people.
Less out of suspicion and more curiosity.]
no subject
The one you may find most interesting is Kogarasumaru. He is the living embodiment of a sword from his home. As such, he is a skilled swordsman and he is quicker than I am.
no subject
[He frowns. But that's not really a surprising look on his face given how he frowns all the time.
Mostly he just isn't fond of being confused.]
