(no subject)

Who: Krista & YOU
Broadcast: Video!
Action: For all library visitors!
When: NOW?

[the fleet's resident, soft-spoken teen goth shows up on screen... backed by several bookcases filled with books! and maybe a couch back there. she waves, awkwardly.]

Uh, hey guys. Good news, the Bishop's library actually made it through the whole space-fight thing pretty well. The electronic tracking system is still down, but that's why people invented pencils and stuff.

[she gives the camera a funny look.] --No, actually, I'm pretty sure it's... the other way around. ... So nevermind.

[she holds up a very... charred-looking book. it had a red cover, once.]

The bad news is that "The Romantic History of the Galactiplastic Sector 9" totally bit it. So, uh. If there was a waiting list, we're gonna have to put this one on hold for a while. Alternatively, if anyone would like to play a little funeral tune, now's the time.

[she just. drops it flat on the floor. it's dead to her.]

So, um, for everyone who doesn't know... Me and a bunch of other people around here have been putting together a little library in the spare room on the Bishop... The ship's still kind of a mess from the fight, but anyone's welcome to come in and read or check out books, or whatever. We take donations and basically whatever stuff people bring us.

And we've got beanbags. And little lights that go "wowowo..." [accompanied with a little finger-wiggle and a totally straight face.] So if you're into that. This might be your jam.

---

[alternatively, if anyone comes to visit the library--it's a personnel room that's been outfitted with lots of bookcases, a couch, a table covered in archival materials, and several beanbags that you can drag around and sit in...

the collection is still small, but there's a little something for everybody! fiction, nonfiction, history, magic, charts, maps, comic books, whatever. Krista's around, probably putting books back on a shelf.]
openhands: (and it's come to claim her)

Perhaps I will find something for myself later.

[SHE'S STICKING TO HER STORY, DAMMIT.]
ino: (Let me explain.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-20 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
They've got a pretty wide variety going on now, even though the last planet barely had anything. I'm kinda impressed ...
openhands: (from my heart)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-21 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
They collect books from every planet then?

[Then she'll know when to check and see if they have anything new. Although it will take her a while to read through what they already have.]
ino: (Better vision.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-21 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the idea, yeah. Once we're back up and flying properly again, I'm sure people will donate more.
openhands: <user name="anabiotic"> (and i would)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-21 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
What exactly happened to the fleet?

[She's got that intensely serious look on her face again.]
ino: (Bored/talking.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-21 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
We were attacked by some sort of ... well, I guess enemy forces. We have no idea who they were, exactly, but they were pretty intent on trying to blow us all up.
openhands: (losing my mind)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-22 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
You have no idea who they were? [she says with incredulity. It's one thing to not know the identity of an aggressor, but it's another to have no clues, no insight to their motivations beyond destruction.] Were there any causalities?
ino: (Waiting impatiently.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-22 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
They didn't respond to attempts at communication, or choose to identify themselves. And we were damaged badly enough that going after them would have been suicidal.

Nobody was killed, fortunately.

openhands: (is so quiet)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-22 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
[The more and more Cassandra hears about this, the less and less she likes it.]

How has recovery progressed then?
ino: (Better vision.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Not too bad! I think just about everybody's almost good to fly again.
openhands: (another taste of heavenly rush)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-22 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Good. An enemy like that will not afford us the luxury of time for very long.
ino: (Ehehehe .....)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-22 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no kidding. But I don't think we'll be at this waystation much longer.
openhands: (losing my mind)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-22 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
We shall have to remain vigilant.
ino: (Thoughtful.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-22 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She raises her eyebrows, because ... well. It's difficult to explain just how underprepared they are for anything, vigilant or not ]

It's not that people aren't paying attention. It's more like, we don't have enough people with the right augments to properly staff every ship.

That, and we really need to work on some teamwork and defensive maneuvers and stuff like that. Once everyone's got their ship in working order, I'm gonna see if I can't organize some kind of drills.
openhands: (but the room)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-22 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Cassandra can't help the reflexive disgusted noise. They should have been running drills from the very beginning. Regardless of how this fleet is meant for entertainment, you don't give people familiarity with weapons and the like without some expectations that you might very well have to use them. And how can one use them if they've not bothered practicing?]

That would be wise. We can perhaps get by without having each ship outfitted with the necessary people, but if they are not putting their knowledge and skills to use at all, it won't be long until we do have casualties.
ino: (Uhh ... what?)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-22 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Cassandra's not wrong -- in fact, they're essentially agreeing on the exact same plan of action -- but the noise she makes still makes Ino frown a little ]

Yeah.

There are also a lot of civilians or people who don't do well with flying. [ Dorian ....... ] I've been trying to work with my crew, at least, but I think this little skirmish gave everyone the kick in the ass they needed.
openhands: (in here)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-22 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Were this the ideal, I would not have those people on these ships. They shouldn't be on the front line like that.

[She's stern and forceful in giving her opinion on the matter, but it is coming from a place of concern. They don't have the skills necessary to protect themselves. The helpless should not have to help themselves.]

But... [She sighs and shakes her head a little.] You may wish to speak to Commander Cullen Rutherford, if you have not already. He does not have experience with...space ships, [still such a weird, weird concept] but he is an excellent military strategist and I have watched him turn clueless recruits into good soldiers. His input may be of use to you.
ino: (Complaining.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-22 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, but unfortunately that's pretty much out of our hands.

[ A sigh ]

Commander Cullen, huh? What ship is he on?
openhands: (and we're coming for blood)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-22 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe he said he was aboard the Huntress when we last spoke.
ino: (I don't get it.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-22 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, I'll send him a message then.

[ Why does that name sound so familiar, tho ... ]

Oh. Wait. The really pretty one? [ She squints at Cassandra. ] Do you know a Dorian?
Edited 2015-04-22 22:47 (UTC)
openhands: (it wasn't the end)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-22 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I do. Unless he's done something, then no. I've never heard of him.
ino: (Giggle.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-23 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ That gets a laugh ]

He's one of my communications people.

Atroma sure likes your world, huh?
openhands: (another taste of heavenly rush)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-23 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
So it would seem. I can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
ino: (Bored/talking.)

[personal profile] ino 2015-04-23 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[ She shrugs ]

It sounds like all of you are at least allies in some way, so I guess it can't be that bad, right?
openhands: (so cold)

[personal profile] openhands 2015-04-23 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Not all, but yes. Most of them, I could consider as much.
