a proper introduction? | video;
Who: Ciel Phantomhive
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: SS Vanquish
When: Two days after shuffle/Sunday
[There's a teenaged boy on the screen who looks a bit tired. Someone clearly hasn't been sleeping too well but he brushes it off easily enough. As if it's something he's used to. Those who might know the young Earl Phantomhive though, know that he's actually very used to it.]
Judging by what I arrived during, and what followed, it stands to reason that everyone has been understandably distracted.
Now seems like a suitable time though to properly introduce myself. I'm Ciel Phantomhive, current head of the Phantomhive Earldom. [A very brief pause.] I was, at least. I haven't held the title in a little over a year now. It wouldn't hardly matter here anyway, I'm sure.
Otherwise, it seems I am ow a cook on board the Vanquish. It's a very good thing Undertaker had been teaching me to cook.

Boradcast
So Ciel will get another British gentleman on his feed. He's dressed very appropriately for Victorian times and his attire speaks to some wealth.]
You have unfortunately caught us at a bit of a bad time, my Lord. Nevertheless, welcome to the Fleet. From your words, I understand you have been assigned already.
Re: Boradcast
I have. But please, you don't need to call me 'Lord'. Ciel is just as well, for me. Especially now.

Professor Randolph Lyall, at your service. I am sure you will want to settle in with your crew, but should you find yourself in need of a taste of home, my Lord and I keep the kitchen of the Blameless rather well stocked with tea.
no subject
Pleased to meet you, Professor. [Oh, how his eyes light up.] I may have to pay a visit. I'm not sure I could let a day pay without a proper cup of tea. I know I'll be stocking up as soon as I possibly can.
no subject
[He just knew the offer of tea would be well received, and he could use a bit of a taste of home too. He only has Biffy to talk to who understands what their time is like - well, and Lord Akeldama - so it's nice to see other people... although a bit worrying to see someone so young.]
I am sure we can share some of our supplies while drifting and help you find your own when we reach a planet. We are slowly but surely converting people to the art of good tea.
no subject
[He'd argue about being young. The Queen had considered him old enough to be named Earl but then... she also made him Watch Dog and probably wasn't the best support he had with regards to that.]
I would greatly appreciate that. And I'd be sure to repay you, of course. [And then Ciel chuckles softly.] I've met at least one person who may stubbornly cling to the thought of coffee being superior.
no subject
Oh. One of these. I have known quite a few in my lifetime. They can be rather unfortunately stubborn about the whole thing.
Do let me know when you'd like to come over. You can either have your own communications officer beam you, or we can do it from here.
no subject
Stubborn is a word.
[He smiles though, polite and more than a little relived. And maybe a bit confused.] Sorry, beam?
no subject
... Ah, my apologies. I have been here going on a year now, so I have adapted to some of the local vocabulary. 'Beaming' is the technology that is used to transport people from ship to ship, or from their ship to the Iskaulit. You could use a shuttle, of course, but beaming is faster and it is safe.
You should ask your communications officer about it.
no subject
Nothing to apologize about. I'll have to ask once I'm better settled. It certainly sounds convenient, if a little concerning. [Maybe he'll ask to see it in action, first. Just in case.]

I'm quite a new chef myself on SS Caprine. It's not a job I'm used to since I'm a priest back home. My name is Abel Nightroad, it's nice to meet you. It's not everyday I meet an Earl, but I met a lot of nobles back home in the Empire.
If you need help or tips or recipes, I'll be happy to help.
no subject
[He doesn't know all the ships yet but he nods as if he might. He'll have to learn them all eventually.] It's a pleasure, Father Nightroad.
[He shifts a little, not sure if he's uncomfortable or not. He hasn't been around a real priest in years.]
I'll be sure to remember. I'll have to see if any of my crewmates have recipe books.
no subject
I think with time and practice, you'll do great. Just pick up what you learn. I think cooking takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but seeing people eating your food and enjoying is worth it. And reading the recipe books will help.
[Abel is pretty laid back for a priest, but for now he's concentrating on being a good chef giving advice to a junior chef.]
Just ask for help when you need it and be careful when dealing with the machines and utensils.
no subject
I was told I could find some cookbooks on the Iskaulit. I'll have to take a look once I'm more settled.
[His patience may be very short with his crewmates though. Although with Undertaker and Abel trying to encourage him... Eh, he'll still probably have a bit of a short temper.]
I'm not that inexperienced.
no subject
The challenging part is having people to like my food and actually enjoying it.
no subject
Everyone could always cook for themselves, if they aren't satisfied.
no subject
I do hope you've been honing your culinary skills since we last met. To cook for one person is one thing, but a crew aboard a ship? Now, that's something.
You didn't happen to pass by Albert while you were about, did you?
no subject
I’m not sure I’ll be up to feeding an entire crew but I seem to be the only one listed on the Vanquish’s roster. So I haven’t much choice. [Which is unfortunate, really. For them. A fifteen year old boy who only learned to cook in the past year probably isn’t the best to rely on for meals.
He can’t help a little smile then.]
I’m afraid not. Seems he’d rather keep the house to himself while we’re snatched away.
no subject
Fortunate. But even still, I do hope you've kept with my lessons. I'd hate to see you going back to those awful precooked meals again.
[It's a joke, of course, but really. He would hate to see that. Those things didn't even really look like food, more like gruel, which isn't food at all. He tilts his head, watching the Earl on his screen with no small interest.]
And he'd better keep it well just in case we return. So... The Vanquish, eh? I seem to find myself on the Goldstone. Not too shabby, but I feel strange without solid ground under my feet.
no subject
I don’t know how much I can do with what I’m given but I’ll do my best. And no instant meals, thank goodness for that. I’ll have to see if I can do some proper shopping in the future. That way we can make biscuits again.
[Never again with the instant meals. His stomach can’t gandle that.]
He had better. [A wistful little sigh.] I already miss our house. Although I am glad you’re here. It makes it easier.
no subject
Thank goodness for that, indeed. I don't know what I'd do with you if I knew you were still eating that rubbish, but [A shrug.] you are who you are. You'll do as you like.
[He heard that sigh, and if nothing, he knows what the boy means. Even knowing what he knows now, however he came by the knowledge, is a little disconcerting.] Would you like to do away with the devices? Tell me where you are and we'll make this easier.
no subject
I think I may still be eating rubbish but it won't be instant meals. [He'll have to show Undertaker the food machine, and what it dispenses if he hasn't already on his own ship. If they're even all the same.]
I think I would. [He smiles and pans the camera around his room.] I haven't done too much exploring yet, even if my room is rather drab.
no subject
That sounds like something I might protest. [But he might know what the boy means. The ships seem to be arranged and furnished more or less the same.]
[And that's all he needs to hear. When Ciel pans the camera around again, he'll see the reaper suddenly standing right there in the room with him.] Is this what it's like to live among the stars where your good doctor Beverly was from, do you think?
no subject
And, really, it's something they'll both protest. At least until they reach a new system and Ciel can stock the ship properly. Or try to. Being so new, he's not sure he'll have the funds to do anything worthwhile for some time.
He doesn't make any sounds of surprise when Undertaker appears. By now, he's used to it and just smiles, turning off his communicator and setting it aside.]
Hm, maybe? I saw her ship whenever memories were being shared back in Riverview, it seemed much brighter. It's nice to kind of experience it ourselves though.
no subject
I won't deny I wondered about that myself. I know that I know now what all of this is and what it's like, but it still seems to me like it shouldn't be possible. Even after our time in the last world, my mind is still back in our time. [Silly, he knows, and there's a giggle to emphasize it.]
