[Welcome to the parlor. Or at least, it would be the parlor if it was back in his home. Either of the ones before. For now, it's just Undertaker's modest little abode on the good ship Goldstone, not too unlike many of yours who stand witness to it now. Maybe he'll add to it over time. He has heard audiences like to get to know people, and what better way to do so than to personalize?]

[Alas. Without much means to add such customizations (yet) you get only to see his smiling face, complete with the scar crossing right over it. How's that for unique?]

We're a lively bunch here, aren't we? Starting things off with a bang, visiting people in their past lives with or without them knowing. Just like the good old days, back in the academy. [There's a giggle, one which might or might not put a shudder down spines. He's an... unusual git and he knows it, complete with the mortician's facade and, some might recognize, the overly cockney accent.]

Ah, we're going to get along just fine, I think. Too bad they've not made use of the smarts I was given, [He flicks a hand.] lab support or something other, bandages I suppose. Wouldn't be much use to me anyway, but you'll find me on the Goldstone, should you have need of my assistance. Look for Undertaker.

[A light shrug.] Might be it's not the same in your world for what I know. People in the last world I was in, when it came up in discussion, told me there wasn't any such thing as grim reapers and all. Said it was just a tale. I won't ever know for sure unless they appear and we have a chance to get into it again.

For instance, we didn't take souls to hell. We were tasked with escorting souls to judgement upon the person's death, to keep them out of the hands of demons. They went wherever after that. There's the part I don't do anymore. [At his rate, he won't ever not be a grim reaper, but he doesn't worry over it. He doesn't need forgiveness now, not if he can stay like this.]

Would've said the same, but our version of Death straight up tried to kill me once, so it's kinda hard to dispute his existence. Plus? He's hot as fuck, so him existing is- [He kisses his fingertips and grins.]

Guess that's a difference in our worlds then. He ferried them to the afterlife and tossed them into the Sea of Souls according to how it's said death works where we're from. Unless, y'know, you fucked up and committed death crimes. The slashy-slashy.

Why'd you decide to stay in the death business even after retiring though? Wouldn't uh...something more lively be a better change of pace?

[There it is again. Death and the afterlife never seem to be the same between worlds. He'll only find that fascinating all over again. It's a curiosity of his, being what he is.] Is that so? Interesting how much these worlds do and don't have in common.

Better to hide in plain sight. That and being a mortician is another side of the same job I'd already been doing. I don't consider it a promotion, but it certainly afforded me a deal more breathing room than I was used to, what with being my own boss.

Yeah? Guess you don't have to worry about health insurance or benefits considering the whole "not mortal" thing.

Can't knocking being my own boss, seeing how I run the Melting Pot. The closest I have is a partner and he pretty much can only do cold foods, so I get free reign of the kitchen.

[He lifts a finger to tap a long nail against one cheek.] No, I suppose not. I don't guess it has much use here in the fleet either though if we can't die and we can't leave. Ah, well. No matter. You'll have fun with it.

Well, you can die - it's just not permanent, apparently. Huuuuge cheat if you ask me, but I'm not against cheating Death a few times.

Where's the fun in life then? Takes away a bit of the charm if you can just pick up another when it all ends, doesn't it? That's a shame.

Hey now, don't knock it. If I accidentally beef it in this world? I don't want it to be a perma-death for me even in my original reality, ya dig? Taako's got shit to do and it's not supposed to end for him here.

Oh, yes. We've all got ambitions, dreams. But what if you did live forever in a loophole like that, knowing you could die at any minute and wake up again later, no consequence? The only motivation for you not to die would be the pain of death, I suppose. That's not enough to discourage some people. There's quite a bit of luxury in knowing what should be isn't permanent. Nothing is precious anymore if you have all the time in the world to get it back.

There's quite a bit of existential horror, too? Like, who the fuck wants to keep dying over and over again forever? That sounds like hell.

[A giggle.] All depends on how you die. I'd prefer to fall asleep one night and let it hit me there and not realize it, after I'm all good and ready. Beats getting shot to death in the middle of the street or drowning. But what would you wake up to after the deed is done? There's something to consider.

Well, seeing as I know the Grim Reaper? I'd probably wake up to his handsome face and then get yeeted into the Astral Sea. Unless I make some kinda deal with his bird mom and then somehow? I dunno? End up not? Who knows. Taako's not ready to go beyond the veil anytime soon and find out.
