Broadcast

[At first, nothing is on screen but a wall. The camera shifts, then topples to the floor with a crash. There's a muttered curse as it shakes, and before finally tilting up to look at a very confused young woman, her brow furrowed.]

What is this device? Garlean? Allagan?

[She mutters to herself, clearly having no idea this is a communication device.]

And for that matter, where in the love of Hydaelyn am I? This couldn't possibly be a prank, not with everything going on. An Ascian trick, perhaps? ...Talking to myself won't solve this.

[But where can she even start?]



Red Fish

[While she's the type to roll with the punches, this? This is something completely different from even the craziest of things she's experienced back home. After fiddling about with the strange device, she begins to wander the halls of the strange ship she's on.

The confetti and pudding are...odd. Honestly, with her luck, she ought to have put the pudding aside in case it was drugged. Baffled as she is, however, she takes the tiniest bit of comfort in the sweet treat as she ambles her way through the hallways.]



Iskaulit

[To say that Naltryd is a fish out of water might be the biggest understatement in the world. While she's had plenty of run ins with Allagan technology, and though less mysterious, Garlean technology, this world is even more incomprehensible. She's sailing among a sea of stars in a vessel unlike anything she'd ever seen before. An airship, yet there is no air outside.

She finds herself wandering the ship known as the Iskaulit, exploring each area of what seems to be the largest of this fleet. It amazes her how a single ship can contain everything from restaurants to parks to libraries to training areas, and more. It's a small city in itself.

One can catch her at any part of the ship, mostly wide eyed and baffled as she takes everything in. At some point, she retires to a bar, sipping at an alcoholic beverage she's never tried before. Even the rum in this place tastes different.]

I see. I'll attempt to find those people, though I might still end up going to you for questions. While the knowledge of some of these things is in my mind, the technology...it's advanced, I think, compared to where I come from. Even just the ship-- [And she gestures around.] It's unlike anything I've seen outside of maybe from the Garlean Empire.

[There's a long pause.]

Between...planets. You mean to tell me that we're not simply high up in the sky, but that we're... But how? It's impossible to just leave a star in a ship!

[stillgotmyleftarm]

[Bucky's mouth twists a little into something almost like a wry smile.] Honestly, I think I kinda know how you feel. You can ask me anything, and if I've got an answer, it's yours. [And,] My friend, Steve Rogers - he's on another ship, but he's got a security augment, like I think you do. I can put you in touch with him.

Turns out, it's not actually impossible, [is really most of the explanation he's got.] It's happened on my world but, uh, my people haven't gone very far. I've met others who have, though.

It's a lot to wrap your head around. [He tilts his head.] Pudding doesn't really, y'know, make up for it all.

[verholy]

That would be helpful. And...thank you, Bucky Barnes. While little of this makes sense to me, you've been able to give me at least some answers.

Your world. [Pause.] A different star. I have learned those to exist, but I never knew them to be so different. Another thing Hydaelyn feels not the need to share the details of, then.

[She glances down at the pudding.]

No, it does not. But it is a small comfort, I suppose.

[stillgotmyleftarm]

[Bucky smiles; it's small, but definitely sympathetic.] I'm sorry I don't have more. But I don't think everyone has all the pieces of the puzzle, here.

[He nods.] What's Hydaelyn? Or - who?

[verholy]

Even a few details help for now. It is a start.

[She hums.]

Hydaelyn is both the world I come from, and the Mothercrystal. A goddess, to put it in simplistic terms, who created said world. She chose to make me her champion, yet she so often talks in riddles. [Headshake.] My apologies. My...role back home is something of a unique one.

[Bucky nods.] Gotta start somewhere, I guess.

Her champion? Is that... like a priest?

[He seems willing enough to accept it; he's more curious than anything.]

[She can't help but give a little laugh at that.]

Anything but. I'm far more a warrior than a priest. The Warrior of Light, they call me back home. Hydaelyn's chosen, the Hero of Eorzea, the Slayer of Gods, the Liberator... I can go on and on with the titles I've been given, not that I care for the accolades. To be perfectly honest, it is a life I ended up simply getting caught up in.

[Huh. It actually...feels really good to just talk about this to someone who can't judge her on any of it.]

[Bucky is definitely not judging. If anything, he's more and more impressed - though he chuckles a little, himself, when she says she doesn't care about the titles, but that she's got a lot.

It sounds familiar. It's the kind of modesty he can get behind. It's honest.]

Honestly, it sounds easier to be a warrior than a priest, [he admits, with a smile.] At least, in my experience.

Sounds like you're an impressive warrior, though. [He grins.] Especially for someone who got caught up in it.

[verholy]

I've never given the holy life a try, though I would imagine so. Much less rules as a warrior, I'd figure.

[Though the situation still has her on edge, a friendly figure eases that somewhat, and she can't help but chuckle.]

So I've been told. A far way I've come from delivering parcels and eradicating vermin...though those jobs still seem to come up even now at times.

[He laughs softly;] I'd figure so, too. At least, based on what I know about priests and nuns in my world.

Sounds like you really are a jack of all trades, though. [Small things and big things - not that that's bad. In fact, it's good, in his book.] What kinda weapons do you use?

[verholy]

I'm willing to bet that there are vast similarities compared to my world.

Jack of all trades would be an incredibly accurate term for what I do. I am a red mage, which means my talents lay across the board of physical and magic, at the sacrifice of being as strong in one aspect compared to one who specialized. My rapier will not do as much damage to a foe as perhaps a samurai, nor will my magic be as powerful as a black mage's... Still, I prefer being able to do a little of everything.

[Once, she had trained as a monk. But she could recall many a situation where healing magic would have been beneficial. Especially one...]

To answer your question, then, I use a rapier and both black and white magic. Destructive and healing.

I guess I probably shouldn't be surprised that different worlds aren't too different, after all. [In a way, it's more comforting than anything.

He does nod, taking in everything she can do - and it's a lot. He notes it all away - especially the magic, more than anything, because it seems like it might be the most useful, even if it's the thing he understands the least.] We don't have magic in my world - that I know of, [he says, with a quiet, rueful laugh.] We have things people used to think were magic, but aren't.

It sounds pretty useful, though. Especially in an emergency. You never know when you'll need an arsenal - or a medic.

[verholy]

I see. There are those in my own world with the inability to use magic, though they've more than made up for it with their technology.

[Damn pain in the ass technology it is.]

That's precisely the reason I decided to become a red mage to begin with. You never know when...a situation will require it, like you said.

Ah. Nah, we're pretty much all technology. The magic I know of's just, y'know, tricks.

[But it's definitely not like he disbelieves her; if anything, he'd like to see what she can do, sometime.]

Well, if you ever need to train... I'd be interested in seeing. If you'd be comfortable with that.

Oh? Well, I've no reason to be shy about it. You're more than welcome to come watch. I plan to train as soon as I get my bearings. Though I don't quite know where that area is, so you may have to show me.

There's... an attempt at something in the cargo bay, far as I can tell, [Bucky says, but he almost sounds apologetic. It's not much.]

There's a better gym on the Iskaulit, though. You can get there by shuttle.

I can take a look regardless. Thank you for the tip about the Iskaulit, though. Once I give it a lookover and figure out a bit of a training regimen, I'll call on you. How does that sound?
