This is General Grievous, now in charge of Security aboard the Goldstone.

[Or so this is the way he's thinking of it, what with the other security officers now promoted to Captain and First Mate.]

It is important that I speak with any Communications staff, from any other Fleet ships, as we are lacking our own. More in particular, if you have technical skills with this world's technology.

You may contact me directly to discuss some matters that have been brought to my attention.

[Well. That's a name Leia has heard in her classes as a child, and it's one she's not sure how she feels about hearing now. It's not that she doesn't know time differences are a thing, because she knows that far too well first-hand, she just never expected it to manifest itself this way.

The only way Leia knows how to proceed with this, and to satisfy her own curiosity about this situation, is to respond regardless, but cautiously.]

What is it you need from Communications staff?

I need someone who has knowledge of visual surveillance and monitoring.

[Not suspicious at all?]

[oratorical]

[Oh totally not suspicious. Nope. Nothing suspicious in that at all.]

For what purpose? I don't know that anyone would agree to assist without full knowledge of what it is they'll be asked to do.

[generalgrievous]

That is confidential to the Goldstone until we have found the right person to assist in this matter.

[oratorical]

Then I fear it will remain confidential to the Goldstone. Unless you decide to be more forthcoming when asking for assistance.

[generalgrievous]

Do you deal with Communications yourself or are you questioning for other's benefit?

[oratorical]

[Well it's not like she'd imagine it's difficult to ask around and figure out her role, even if she'd prefer to not give more information about herself than necessary, so--]

I do deal with communications, but I'm certain any other communications officer would have the same misgivings.

[generalgrievous]

I did already say what I needed one with such qualifications for. Surveillance technology. For defence of our ship.

[oratorical]

That's hardly specific enough. You haven't said why you need that surveillance technology.

[Having heard of Grievous in her lessons, she thinks it's natural to be suspicious of whatever he's looking for here.]

Way to be cryptic. I mean, I'm Communications but I'm gonna want details before I agree to anything.

It is cryptic to not reveal all pertinent information to the entire Fleet?

Somehow that doesn't change the fact that I need to know details. Probably a weird coincidence but it's true.

It is not a critical secret. The Goldstone needs visual surveillance and so we have need of somebody with this ability to aid in the creation of this, for our protection.

Well I can't exactly build something. You got someone in mind for that?

[generalgrievous]

I was told by our Captain that we needed both an Engineer and a Communications officer, so you would be working with our Engineer. Of course I will oversee to make sure that it is up to our Security standards.

Oh so your guy already knows about this?

[generalgrievous]

I have not yet had a chance to speak with him. It will be discussed when I find the correct Communications officer for this mission.

We are lacking visual surveillance aboard the Goldstone. Do you know anything about this technology?

Visual surveillance...? Do you mean...security cameras?

[generalgrievous]

That could be another term for it.

I...apparently know how to activate individual comm terminals, but I don't know anything about monitoring them remotely or anything.

...is your ship not capable of performing an internal scan?

[He's not aware that's only something that happens when a communications officer is assigned to a vessel.]

[generalgrievous]

I am not aware of this function. Our Captain said that we have need of an Engineer and a Communications officer to create this for our security.

And threats are not always internal.

You need a communications officer stationed on your ship, I think. Mine just...has a scanner array, internal and external.

[He's clearly still not comfortable with the idea that he just knows these things.]

I don't know how much help I can be if no one requests a transfer.

[generalgrievous]

Are you not permitted to visit for the time it would take to build such a mechanism?

[He's still not sure how everything works around here, having spent very little time on his assigned ship since his fairly recent arrival and having gone through calibrations for much of that time elsewhere on the Marsiva. Between that and with his own stubbornness, he has a lot to learn.]
