They were pretty rare compared to humans to begin with. Then so many were lost in the fall. [It was something he had heard Knives regret on occasion. How he had been too hasty and let too many of their sisters be killed along with the humans.] I tried sometimes back home to tell people, but most got so scared or they wanted to study me. I'm not a science experiment and I hated when people looked at me like might hurt them.

[He gently rubs his thumb across the glass of the bulb.] I guess, it was just easier, to not say anything. To just let them assume. Besides; do you have any idea how awkward it is to start a conversation with someone new going: Hi! My name is Vash and I'm not human. Humans don't have to worry about stuff like that! [He means the last part to be a joke, but there's a bit of truth in there.]

[She tucks in a little closer to him as he speaks. She can relate.] I do know. I met someone here a couple of days ago who asked if he could run some tests on me after he saw my powers and I had to tell him I'm not an experiment. I'm not a plant and you're not a mutant, but you're not alone. [She hopes that will give him some comfort that if he starts talking about it then he'll find humans more accepting than usual—with some exceptions. And other misfits like them who get it and who are ready to include him. The way Allen Walker and she had included each other back in Marina when she was the only mutant. When she had to learn to be the only one again.]

[Vash finds he gets a bit annoyed on her behalf at hearing that.] I don't get why that is the first thing that crosses people's mind when they see something new. [He shouldn't ask.] Who was it?

[She rubs his arm. She had been hoping he'd focus a little more on the last part, but she can understand why it's not what stood out.] He backed off immediately when I shut him down. It was Spock. He's new from Kirk and Pavel's world.

Well. At least he backed off. [Vash suppose he can't really blame people for being curious. So long as they understood the limits to it.] And are you okay? [Trying to be more honest to how he was feeling or not Vash would always be the type to be worried more about others than himself.]

I'm great. [She gives him a soft kiss.] I'm with you. Not him. How are you?

Feeling like I'm dreaming. Because I have no idea what I've done to have a day as great as this one. [He says this with a playful tone. Hoping she understands that he's being silly dramatic and not self hating as he gives her another kiss.]

It was the donuts wasn't it? [She kisses him back. They are on the same page as she teases him back.]

Mmhmm, yeah, totally. [He reaches up to rub his thumb against her cheek and kisses her again.] Just the donuts. No way it could be anything else.

[Then he chuckles softly.] Do you think we'll spend this whole vacation in this bed? [He's pretty sure they'd be missing out on a lot, but at the same time he's sort of okay with this.]

[Gasp, does he mean it could be her too? Okay, she did book the room after all. He probably had to include her.] We cooooould. But then you'd never find out what else is in that box.

What? Really? There's more? [Not his curiosity is getting the better of him. Stopping his kissing for the moment to peer over at the box.] What is it? [For someone who is over a hundred and thirty Vash sure can act like a kid at Christmas at times.]

Mmmm... Are you sure you're ready? [Really asking herself. She wants to show him but she still feels those nerves and doubts. Do those go away when you're also in love with someone else you'll probably never see again?]

Hard for me to say no when everything else has been so great.

Um...first tell me something I don't know about you. [This is a normal game to play, right?]

Oh, uhh... something you don't know? [He stares at her for a moment. His mind going blank for a bit. What does someone say about themselves at a time like this?] I... uh... um. I know how to count cards? [Probably not a big reveal she's hoping for, but it's the first thing that pops into his mind.] But I try not to do it when playing for fun.

[No, it's not exactly what she was hoping for. She was hoping for some perfect sign that makes her fall deeper into her feelings and more sure of them. It's not that. It was probably never going to be that. It's probably just always going to be hard when she's still in love with Winn too. When life as an abductee is always complicated.]

Wow, I really have a type. [Except he's really about as far away from being like Reid as she could imagine. Except, of course, that they can both count cards. Her mind lumped Tyki in there too for a second, but he didn't count cards. He just cheated at them.] I'll keep that in mind anytime betting is on the table.

I promise. [He crosses his heart here.] To never count cards when playing against you. Unless we're playing doubles and we need to stomp the other team.

Yeah? You'd make that sacrifice for me? [Brushing back his hair.]

I'd make a lot of sacrifices for you. [There's a slight bit of hesitation before he says the next part. She did say it was okay, but he was still a little nervous without the heat and passion of sex being part of the moment.] I love you, Kitty.

[It's a very sweet comment that could be just as much of a tease as she was making, but it doesn't really sound like one coming from him. It sounds even less like one the way he follows it up. She leans in to press her lips to his in a soft but lingering kiss. When they part she pulls back just enough to be able to look him in the eyes.]

I love you, Vash.

[His eyes light up when he hears those words. He knows Winn will always come first for her, but knowing his love isn't going to scare her away anymore and a part of her loves him back? It was more that Vash would have ever thought to ask for in his life.

He reaches up to gently touch her cheek with his hand. Feeling a strong desire to touch her as he kisses her once again.] This might be the best vacation I've ever had.

[It also might be the first real vacation he's ever had.]

Still the donuts, right? [She only means to smile a little at him, but she can't stop her mouth as the smile increases. It felt good to say it. Not like she stabbed Winn in the back or brought ruin to everyone she's ever cared about or whatever it was she was so worried over for all this time.]

Always the donuts. [Vash's smile beams right back at her. A true and honestly happy smile which is so different from the one he always naturally has one his face.] As much as I hate to ask; should I get dressed again? Oooor do you want to try out the bed again?

I have no immediate non-bed desires. But you can get dressed if it makes you more comfortable. [She did throw a shirt on if nothing else.]

Hmm. [Vash considers his options. Honestly part of him wants to just pull her back into bed and remove her shirt again.]

Here's what I think. You get less dressed and we try out the bed again. Or I get dressed and we at least check out around the cabin at least once so we can say we went outside at least once while we're here. [And also so he can get an idea of what kind of surroundings they're in an escape routes should it be required. Old habits die hard.] And then we try out the bed again.
