Broadcast; Yes
Action; Various (Planetside and around)
When; All March

[Aaron does clear his throat before speaking.]
So, this planet seems interesting. Does anyone want to go exploring? Maybe just get out into something a little more open than the ships? Personally, it's been way too long since I've smelled pine.
(OOC: If you'd like to do anything specific, like meet and greets or just hanging out, feel free to post a starter, or drop me a line on plurk (
vikael) if you want to hash out details. Individual starters for things we're already discussed below!)

It's fine. It took a bit for me to get used to, too.
Apparently, my dad was one of the first people on Earth to meet an alien. And have a kid with one.
[He shrugged a bit.] Kind of a good thing I didn't inherit her complexion. That would have been awkward growing up. [The pointed ears, fangs, and yellow eyes, too, but point made.
Keith grabbed another practice weapon around the same size and stood next to Aaron, taking a stance similar to the one he'd been using all along so far, but making minor adjustments for having the weapon.]

[He nodded, at this point glad to move on from making awkward jokes and getting down to business. Honestly, he just shouldn't let himself talk sometimes.]

{OOC: Now the hard part... LOL}
Seeing Aaron was ready, Keith moved on.]
Certain moves are going to be similar, but instead of blocking another weapon with, say, your forearm, you want to block it with the weapon you're actually holding. Especially if the other weapon is bladed, and you don't have protection on your arms. [Blocking a knife or sword with a bare forearm was just asking for an injury.] We'll go over that part first, since defense can be way more useful as far as tiring your enemy out.
[Keith's philosophy had changed a lot. He was still an aggressive fighter, but he'd also learned over time that it wasn't all about the attack. He had to be able to protect himself as well, especially against counterattacks.]

[Defense was something Aaron took easily to. He was a naturally kind and selfless person, and defending against an attacker's movements was a lot less likely to cause the other party harm than going on the offensive would. Even in a post-apocalyptic world, Aaron would rather resolve conflicts with words over weapons, though he does recognize some people's unwillingness to parley.
He made for an attentive student, to, following Keith's tutelage raptly. When it came time for a break, even, he acquiesced.]
How did you learn all this? Were you a soldier?
no subject
[Keith blinked in surprise at the question and then looked a bit sheepish.]
Kinda?
Like, I am. I'm a Paladin of Voltron, so... one of the major things we do is defend the universe against evil. Which means fighting. But that wasn't where I learned everything. Because of my mom, I'm also a member of the Blade of Marmora, a rebel group of Galra who are attempting to take down the Galra Empire from the inside, and I was able to learn a lot from them as well.
But... I also was something of a trouble-maker as a kid... which is how I learned the basics and got started. [Trial and error in an actual fight does wonders for the learning curve.]
Shiro also taught me more of the disciplined stuff. He used it as a way to teach me focus and help me get out some of the pent up frustration I had a lot of back then.
no subject
You just defend the universe from evil, huh? No big deal? [The number of people he's met here with that perspective was staggering and it only got more impressive by the day.] And a rebellion member? That's...a pretty impressive resume, Keith.
[And he didn't miss the fond way Keith mentioned Shiro, either.]
Is Shiro a friend?
no subject
Well, it's definitely something of a big deal. It's not exactly something we just do like brushing your teeth. And the rebellion thing... Yeah. I found out the hard way that I really could only do one at a time. So, I use my ties to them to help with Voltron's missions. We support each other.
[It had sort of almost torn the team apart when he first started training with them and doing missions on a regular basis, so figuring out where the balance was had been hard but important.]
Shiro's... yeah. I'm not really sure how to describe him. He's like a brother to me. He helped me out when I was at a really low point in my life. It really meant the world to me. I'd be a very different person if it wasn't for him.
no subject
Most of the time all we have is each other. Supporting one another is the only way to thrive.
[He smiles at that, too.]
Shiro sounds like a good man. Is he here?
no subject
He was... for a while. He arrived before I did, but he disappeared during calibrations.
no subject
...I'm sorry. Losing people suddenly isn't easy.
no subject
Story of my life, it seems...
[He shook his head.]
I'm okay. He's back home, and he's okay there, and that's what matters.
no subject
It is. Sometimes, your loved ones being okay? That's all that matters, no matter the cost.
no subject
Yeah. Definitely.
[He smiled a bit, though it was a little dark.]
So... you want to go for more? Or call it quits for the day?
[He kind of wanted to switch back to something more comfortable to focus on.]
no subject
Yeah. [And he raises his arms.] Let's go.
no subject
Ready to be attacked?
no subject
He nodded.]
I think so.
no subject
If you're sure.
[He'd take it slow all the same. This would give Aaron the chance to practice without feeling too much pressure.]
no subject
I'm sure.
[And he accompanies the confirmation with a nod.]

That is until he lands a lucky shot when he doesn't pull a punch, then his face shifts to shock and concern.]
Whoa! Are you okay?
no subject
Yeah... I'm okay.
[He rubbed the side of his face, feeling that was going to bruise later, but no big deal.]
I'm good.
no subject
Are you sure? I got you pretty good.
no subject
[The main thing that got Keith was he'd been caught off-guard because they'd been practicing. Had this been a real fight, and he'd been ready for a full-on hit, it wouldn't have phased him as much.]
That was a good shot, though. [Keith actually looked a little amused for a moment.] But, uh... yeah. I think it might be a good spot to take a break.
