[at first, there's just the sound of someone fiddling with the buttons on some network station. technology is difficult, okay.

then, the camera turns on, and everyone watching will be treated to the sight of a raggedy, scarred-up teenager blinking in surprise at the screen. or... maybe it's not technically considered blinking, because he only has one eye.

he frowns hard when he realizes that he's turned the video on. that's not what he was aiming for. a second later, the video cuts off... and several seconds after that, a text transmission is sent out.]

hello.

→ [action - aboard the Marsiva]

[for anyone awake this late on the Marsiva--or awoken by the sound of someone angrily messing around with the buttons at a nearby network station--they can find this guy failing at technology.

I'm sure he's very friendly. you should say hi.]

Whew, that's good. [but uh oh... she's starting to wonder since he's been so silent]

Can you talk?

[normally, he'd be hesitant to admit that shortcoming outright... but it might speed up the communication process here, and that would be great. so he shakes his head.]

[oof, she feels a little bit guilty and it shows on her face for a moment before she holds up her hands in a determined pose]

Sorry for talking at you like that. Let's see... [she pauses to think, before starting slightly, like she was struck by an idea]

Do you have one of these? [she asks as she rummages through her pocket and holds up her communicator]

[following her lead, he rummages in his own pockets until he also comes across a communicator, and looks surprised about it.

tentatively, he holds it up.]

Great! [she turns her own around so that the keyboard is showing] Do you know how to use these things? We could text!

if he could tell her about how much he hates texting, he would be doing so right now.

instead, he's stuck with just... ineffectually fiddling with the buttons]

[oh, well... he actually nods a little at that.]

Okay! [she seems to be seriously bolstered to have found a mini mission]

Then that'll be my first job! I'll find a pen and paper for you, there has to be one somewhere on this ship.

[he nods a little, again.

luckily, they have all sorts of things in the creepy automated medbay here, so it won't take too long to find]

[and with that, she starts rummaging through a nearby drawer. As she looks around, she calls out over her shoulder]

Oh, also, I'm Maya Fey! Nice to meet you!

[he... can't answer her.

so he just nods awkwardly, whether she's looking at him or not]

[she looks over her shoulder and smiles as he nods, and then gets back to searching. What to find what to find--

Ah! Half success! She bounces up and jogs back over to Coil]

Ta da! One pen. Now time for paper...

[that's easier to find, and he's impatient enough right now to just find it himself.

which means he quickly steps away, and as soon as he finds a clipboard with some important-looking lab papers on it, he detaches them so he can flip them over and scribble on the back. hopefully no one needed those.

he scrawls out the word 'Coil' and holds it up so she can see.]

[aw, nice. She waves again, a little bit quieter]

[he's so glad to be writing and not messing around with a stupid keyboard trying to text.

balancing the clipboard in his arm for a moment, he scrawls out a string of crisp, clean, well-formed words, before holding it up for her again]
