[ the feed turns on, though it seems to start with a burst of static and a blurry screen before it finally seems to straighten itself out. though the scene you might be seeing seems a little . . . hard to take in. mostly because it looks like everything has been frozen. plants, grass and giant dinosaurs like T-Rexs that were in mid-lunge to bite on . . . a huddled lump who has a quilt over their head and cocooned deep within the covers. And also happens to be sneezing a lot. ]

This — [ loki sneezes, looking pale, harried and a little . . . blue. ] — Is the worst. Why is everything so — [ another loud sneeze. ] — uncomfortable?! And how do you make it stop?!

Is that so surprising?

My experience is when you've got folks looking after you who are shitty on that level? They're shitty to all of their kids.

[ he purses his lips. ]

[ loki pauses, looking at her with a bemused but wintry expression. ]

Thor is a hero. Heroes do not linger for family.

[necromanswers]

[She snorts.]

That's horseshit. Real heroes know better than to forget what actually matters.

[Willingly forget, anyway. Like ignoring or abandoning or whatever. Forced amnesia's different.

She gives him a sideways glance.]

Do I need to kick his ass for you? Did he forget?

[ sounds fake but okay. loki shakes his head. ]

He didn't forget anything. Thor has to fight monsters and save worlds. I'm already dead. He cannot linger for me.

[Oof. Right.]

Okay, but it might not stick. So if and when you come back, you better put your foot down and demand some attention. Plus? You're both here now.

Yes, but this place is transient. It will not last. And Thor does not want to stay here. He wants to leave.

[ loki also doesn't want to stay, but his feelings are more complicated. ]

Okay, Debbie Downer, have you never heard of living in the moment? Because you're focusing way too hard on the future, here.

[ his eyes flash briefly. ]

I am not taking what I have here for granted, but I will not linger and pretend everything is fine.

[necromanswers]

I sure don't expect you to do that. That's stupid.

[Although it is the twins' general go-to on conflict avoidance, most times.]

I just hate wasted opportunity.

I have taken all the opportunities I could in a place like this.

I'm ready for it to be over.

[ he's quiet for a long time. ]

I was before. Many times.

[Lup's eyes narrow at that, and she falls silent rather than responding directly- instead, there's a sudden jolt as she slams the acceleration of the shuttle, rocketing them towards his ship at top speed.]

[ . . . uhm. okay. ]

Is that necessary.

[necromanswers]

Yup.

[Well, maybe.]

I can't set anything on fire in here. Gotta let the steam out somehow.

I am not saying I will die or want to.

[ loki shrugs. ]

I am not resigned, I am merely . . . worn out a little. I would still choose life but I rather not get my hopes up.

[necromanswers]

What is it you want, then? Out of all this?

[Because there's a nice big list of grievances she could give this place, sure, and there's plenty to hate. But there are certain benefits to be found, if you can figure out a way to wrestle the good out of the bad. They're alive here- both of them.

That has to count for something.]

[ loki leans back. the shuttles are small and their windows, even more so. still he finds himself glancing out into the blackness. ]
