Captain Whizbang reporting

Who: Carol Danvers
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Marsiva
When: Friday afternoon (04/24)

[ Carol's muttering as she turns on the feed, clearly talking to herself rather than anyone listening. ] -can't even get one month back on Earth before I have to deal with this shit again. I swear to god if that insane little raccoon shows up...

[ She clears her throat and straightens her shoulders, taking on a military bearing. The uniform she's wearing is a little too colorful to be military, but never mind that. ] Hello... Fleet? Captain Marvel of the Avengers here, and I did not sign up for a trip to space today, but here we all are. Don't know if any of you will know what the Avengers are, but apparently we've got some name recognition out here since the Builders War, so who knows? You can call me Carol.

Does someone want to fill me in on how long this has been going on? What planets everyone's from? Do we know anything about who took us? Annnd while we're at it... If someone could describe the ship I'm on right now, that'd be great. Can't tell anything from the inside except that it's big, and I can't find the doors or teleports or whatever they're using to get around in here.

Action: Marsiva
Carol's pacing the deck like a caged animal, eyeing the walls with a thoughtful expression that would make anyone who knows her nervous. She could blow out the big viewing window in the main room, but not without asphyxiating all her fellow captives - not really a viable plan.

But the interior walls can't be as sturdy as the hull, and assuming the rest of the ship is pressurized and has the same breathable atmosphere...

Okay, that might be assuming a lot. She steps up to the wall opposite the window and raps her knuckles hard against it, listening to the noise it makes. That noise tells her exactly nothing, because she flies spaceships, she doesn't know anything about their construction.

Carol sighs, glancing mournfully toward the ceiling. "I miss Harrison..." Sure, sometimes he tried to speak Flerken cat at her, but at least she understood that ship. Her ship.

"Yeah, sometimes. I go over to play video games and stuff with Jess."

Anya purses her lips thoughtfully, turning the options over in her head. "I think it's time travel," she says eventually. "Between Jess and Natasha and Captain America," no, she still can't call him Steve, it's a Rikki thing, "I'm pretty sure you would've heard if I had gone missing."

It's not like she's super close to them all, but they (and Tony, and Dr. Banner, and a few other people) know her name, and say hi and ask about how school's going when she stops by, and she's pretty sure Jess and Natasha, at least, would spread the word if she'd suddenly dropped off the planet.

Conclusion? Has to be time travel.

"Well, okay," Anya starts, tapping one finger against her lips. "If it's not the half-eyes, it's not Kang, and it's not whatever thing dragged you places, then it's something new, right?" She's pretty sure that's a given. "We're stuck on some sort of spaceship, but they didn't lock us in cells or keep us apart from each other. We still have our superpowers - or I do, anyway - and we have implants in our heads to help us use the local technology."

Another pause as she turns that over in her head. "I'm guessing they either need more hands than they had for something big, or they want to observe us for some reason, like for science. Even if acclimating us beforehand with implants seems like bad science to me."

Anya grins right back. Well, brain tumor or no, this is clearly still Carol. That's reassuring on a number of levels.

"Uh, duh? That'll be the most awesome."

Anya moves closer (from where she was standing behind Carol, just in case) and prods at the wall.

"Woah. Did you love tap it, or did they plan for you?" She glances back with her eyebrows almost at her hairline, they're so far up. "I think we may have underestimated the time travelling alien kidnappers."

That's not good. Anya was kind of hoping they'd been grabbed at random, that Carol would be able to punch her way into wherever the people in charge are and get them sent home. It's silly, in retrospect, given the time travel - why kidnap them from two different points in the time stream if they weren't gunning for them specifically? - but she had hoped.

"Great. Okay. Great." Anya's finally starting to freak out a little. "This is exactly the kind of situation I wanted to be stuck in, kidnapped to space by time travelling aliens for an unspecified purpose, with someone who doesn't even freaking remember me. No offense, I know it's not really your fault, blah blah blah, but... but..." She trails off, then explodes in a string of expletives in Spanish, running it for a few seconds before petering out and kicking at the wall (with the ball of her foot, not her toes - no injuries!).

"I hate everything."

Anya squeaks slightly, being pulled into that hug. And... part of her processes the fact that Carol calls her an Avenger, and despite 'not being a team person' her chest swells a little at the show of confidence.

But that's all secondary to the fact that even before Carol says it, Anya knows she remembers. Because this? This is a mom-hug. By the time Carol actually says she remembers her, Anya is latched onto her tightly enough to make it abundantly clear how relieved she is to realize this.

When she speaks, her voice is a little wobbly, but she's not crying. "I missed you, Mom."

If you cry, Captain Marvel, it is all on you, because if Anya has managed not to cry, you have no excuse.

After she gets a good long few seconds of hugging in, she loosens her grip and pulls back enough to smack Carol's arm and glare at her halfheartedly.

"Hey! You made Wendy tell me about you freaking tumor! What the hell?"

Anya has a few choice Mexican and Puerto Rican epithets for you, Carol. None of them are very nice. Sorry.

"That was stupid. I'd rather be worried than feel like you didn't care enough to tell me."

She's more hurt than angry, really, and it shows in the set of her mouth and the slight shine in her eyes.

...If nothing else, this reunion is gonna get them some significant opening ratings.

"Dios mio," she mutters, facepalming. "No, you don't get to pull that super-specific bullshit on me," she says firmly, pulling back fully and dropping her fists on her hips.

You're fucked, Carol.

"If you are having any issue that is or will be impacting your quality of life, with nothing that will explicitly and without fail fix that available? You're telling me."

She's too smart for that wordplay, Carol. She needs to know. You're basically her mother. You are her one remaining family member. Do not fuck with her.
