[ Elize just happens to unfortunately be within vicinity as the shift takes place, observing some nearby patches of flowers. The ripple of energy blows her back for a small tumble across the grass. When she scrambles back on her feet, it's difficult to ignore the enormous dragon picking his way through the trees. She'd come across monsters before, but not one of such a large size.

She's afraid of making a noise and budging from her spot, fearing that it would notice her. Something that large would easily gobble up a little girl like her. Trembling, she curls up behind some bushes and tries to remain as quiet as possible. She's hoping the dragon will just pass right by her... ]

[and at first, the beast--roughly three stories tall--does go to walk right by her. the massive thing stalks along with more silence than might be expected from something its size, more focused on listening for distant sounds than what might be right around its feet, as it slowly prowls between the trunks of oversized trees.

but, after a few moments... it stops.

from somewhere nearby, the dragon picks up the little concentrated knot of energy that comes from the aura of a human life, and it pauses to swing its head around in her direction. with audible whuffs of air, it sniffs for a scent.

it can't see through the underbrush, but it knows someone is there. and so, rolling deep through the air comes a vicious growl of warning.]

[ She's really tempted to huddle up and close her eyes until the dragon's gone, but that's likely far more dangerous when she can't keep an eye out. Remaining in a crouch, she peers through the leaves, watching and listening to the beast sniff around.

Seeing a view of its face brings Elize to find herself with more labored breathing and sinking more into panic mode.

The warning growl then gets an audible, frightened gasp out of her. She quickly clasps her hands over her mouth, as if it would do much muffle any more noise from her. ]

[the little sound is enough to hone in on her hiding spot, and he makes his move.

his intention is only to flush the intruder out into the open--maybe frighten them off if he's lucky--though that fact isn't exactly apparent. he strikes like a snake into the underbrush, making a snarling feint for whoever is hidden there.

it would have been just the right amount of menace for an adult, but is kind of overkill for a kid. oops.]

[ The dragon's movements are quick and enough to shock the little girl right out of the bushes, bringing her to make a short, high-pitched scream. Her legs finally budge, scrambling out of hiding and into clear view, with a small number of leaves stuck to her dress and now somewhat disheveled hair.

Breathing heavily, she shakily stands and breaks off into a run as fast as her little legs can take her. She's not sure where she's running. Maybe there's someone out here to help her, keep running, or try to seek out a new hiding spot. She doesn't know... but she's terribly frightened. ]
