Yes, it could be damaging in my world too. It was why the Tayledras build their vales. They help heal an area that magic was twisted, return it to as it once was. Moondance told me that such pockets were left over from the Mage Wars, a time long before I was born.

[ He he had not been part of that healing process except for helping curb the spread of deadly magical creatures, but they had taught him of their mission and their history anyways. ]

... Twisted.... [ Duke is unfamiliar with twisted magic until the magic itself gained sentience. ]

Aer - the ambient form of magic - was toxic in high levels. .... Toxic inaccurate - it would speed along growth straight to decay, in high enough concentrations. ..... so unnerving, if also...

[ It's strange, the part of him that had traveled and worked with aer says that he should be feeling sick, with so much about. He doesn't, he feels remarkably alive, if.. distracted. ]

The magic did not do that in my world. It produced strange beasts, and odd growths. The vales are meant to help heal the area, rid it of the monsters that should not be, and then... well, the Tayledras move on.

[ In any other land of science and technology, such a thing would have been deemed radiation. ]

radiantwingedone: (Must have been quite a miracle.)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-05-23 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
... A little similar - too much, not too warped, causes ... sick, monsters. More aggressive...

[ Remember, weird creatures were normal for his world.

... definitely more distracted now.

Duke, you're trailing off in your speech again.

[ It seemed a thing he should warn the other about. It could often become hard to understand him when he did, and he had to wonder what was causing to slip. ]

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-05-24 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
...

[ He blinks, once or twice. Ah, right. ]

It keeps pulling ... my attention. Grabbing is a better word, grabbing my attention.

[ So much magic. ]
peacockherald: (Default)

[personal profile] peacockherald 2015-05-24 02:15 am (UTC)(link)

The magic, you mean?

[ He had always known Duke was sensitive, but he had never truly known HOW sensitive. It just never came up, given that Paradisa never felt like sharing its wealth of magic with them. ]

radiantwingedone: (Focus)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-05-24 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. I see it moving.

[ Another reason it never came up was because... Duke couldn't see there. ]

And it keeps trying to stay with me. [ Despite him more or less being magically "full" at the moment. He is capable of taking more, it just isn't something he does, usually. ]
peacockherald: (Default)

[personal profile] peacockherald 2015-05-24 03:09 am (UTC)(link)

Trying to stay with you? Follow, you mean? You think it is sentient, perhaps?

[ How odd. Vanyel could not see anything, though he did have magical sight, but perhaps because this magic was not what he was used to? It wasn't formed into what he was used to looking for. ]

radiantwingedone: (Must have been quite a miracle.)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-05-24 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[ That could be it, Duke was used to looking at a very raw form of magic. ]

The.. personal held magic. [ Distracted by something, then frowning and trying to focus on Vanyel only. ]

I can hold more than I usually do. Feel like it is trying to fill as much as it can.

[ Absent shrug. Sentient? ]

Filling all it can - all the plants seem very... full of life. Life of own, more than usual? Unknown.

[personal profile] peacockherald 2015-05-24 04:18 am (UTC)(link)

[ He didn't like the sound of that, though when he thought about it, yes, he could see what the other meant. It felt like the magic was pressing in on him, not quite squeezing, but a river looking for the easiest path to flow. ]

What do you think it means? Do you think it dangerous?

radiantwingedone: (Focus)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-05-24 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
It... [ Distracted.

Where - Ah.
]

Not acting quite.. that way. I might become.

[ He's looking out at the woods now. He wants to explore, even if there is the part that says "too much magic!" ]

[personal profile] peacockherald 2015-05-26 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)

Might become what, Duke?

[ Really, it was like trying to keep the attention of a puppy - only a very dangerous one, with quite a bit of magic at his disposal. He didn't miss the direction of Duke's gaze, felt his own yearning to explore further, see if there was a source to this magic pressing at him from every side. ]

Should we look around, see what we might see?

radiantwingedone: (Focus)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-05-26 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Dangerous.

[ Echoing that dangerous puppy line of thought- ]

... Yes. Would you like to float with me?

[ It would help. If he expends some magic, the filling won't be pushing so much at where he would change from it. ]
peacockherald: (Default)

[personal profile] peacockherald 2015-06-01 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)

[ Another blink, caught by surprise at the offer, but... honestly intrigued. He had never thought to bend his own magic to that, had not thought it was possible, though Duke clearly had no troubles. His excitement and curiosity won out and he nodded. ]

Yes, yes I would love that. Is it very hard - to float?

radiantwingedone: (Focus)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-06-02 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
... Harder to find the way to, than keep it up.

[ But he's strange with magic, so it might be just him. He lifts absently off the ground, staring vacantly down as if trying to find the words for what he just did. ]

It is... implying gravity is something else, as is.. buoyancy. Like how floating in sea water is easier than river...

[ He blinks over at him. ]

I could apply it to you, and you can try to learn how it works that way?
peacockherald: (Default)

[personal profile] peacockherald 2015-06-02 01:53 am (UTC)(link)

Oh... well, I suppose I could. I have never tried to use magic that way before, so I am unsure if my magic can bend that way...

[ The thought had never occurred to him, but then the idea of floating through air always seemed a thing reserved for the birds and legendary griffons. ]

radiantwingedone: (Focus)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-06-02 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Might be less of "bend that way" and more of "find different bends to same effect".

[ But there's a clear deep-green glow about Duke's hands for a moment, before he pauses. ]

Would you prefer I keep the control of movement for now? Could anchor it into how I move, so that... following is a little like shadowing?
peacockherald: (Default)

[personal profile] peacockherald 2015-06-06 02:45 am (UTC)(link)

Yes, I think that might be best. I would rather not set myself flying into a tree.

[ Not that Duke's explanation of how to possibly make the magic work made any sense to him, but there was very little to be done about that, he thought. He would have to figure it out on his own as he eyed the green glow of Duke's hands. ]

radiantwingedone: (Default)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-06-06 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
It does not go that fast.

[ Or, well, it only really goes as fast as the person can. A little odd like that. But Duke flicks his fingers, and the spell forms a sphere about Vanyel, then sinks close to him and vanishes.

He might feel like he's caught under the arms by something, without it really feeling like it could get horribly uncomfortable. Like he was floating in water, and that's where the water level was - without the obvious wet feel.

Duke tilts his head, a silent 'everything fine'?
]

[personal profile] peacockherald 2015-06-06 07:00 am (UTC)(link)

[ Vanyel shivered as the magic settled over him, different from that of the planet, lifting him up and shivering at the sensation. Floating - he was floating, in the air as if it was water! He laughed brightly, looking down at the space between his feet and the ground. ]

Marvelous... it's marvelous, Duke...

radiantwingedone: (Focus)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-06-07 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
I will have to work out how to explain it better.

[ But for now, he looks up. And it seems like all his spell needs is intent, because then they're rising.

He also seems a bit more awake as they go up.
]

... Which direction?
peacockherald: (Default)

[personal profile] peacockherald 2015-06-07 06:05 am (UTC)(link)

Perhaps towards the lake?

[ He points to where he can see water sparkling, surprised he has the wits to talk floating as high as he is. Height had never scared him, especially living with the Tayledras as he had, but this was definitely new and not nearly as secure as the tree houses. ]

radiantwingedone: (Focus)

[personal profile] radiantwingedone 2015-06-08 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ Duke makes a thoughtful agreeing noise, and they just.. flow in that direction.

And Duke's spell is secure enough - it would take something knocking into them to disrupt it, and even then, it has to be hard enough to shake Duke's concentration.

... and they aren't going much faster than a horse's trot. It'll take a little bit.
]
peacockherald: (Default)

[personal profile] peacockherald 2015-06-08 01:28 am (UTC)(link)

[ Still, it felt much faster for their height, for the way they glided across the tree tops. He wondered if he might reach down and brush the leaves, at once delighted and trying to figure out the spell for himself with the more analytical part of his mind. He could not help but laugh, the delight winning out for now. ]
