Aang. Come on.

[ but she's following after him, tone quiet and carefully pleading. she can feel it, too, the weird pull of this planet, but... ]

It's not safe. It can't be. We need to get back to the ship.

[savedtheworld]

[Her pleading does tug at something in him, but he still remains set in his resolve. It feels like everything in him is urging him onwards. So he doesn't look towards Katara; his gaze remains solely ahead of him, looking into the dark depths of the forest.]

It's okay, Katara. Everything'll be okay. Let's just go a little farther.

[His gaze looks almost blank for a moment there.]

It... it feels like the right thing to do.

[kyasdaughter]

That doesn't mean that it is. These places are dangerous.

[ oh, and this is probably the closest thing to real fear she's felt since getting here. what if aang goes into this forest and simply doesn't come out? she knew the rules in paradisa, but she has no idea what they might be now that they're members of the fleet. ]

I just... I really don't want to go, Aang.

[savedtheworld]

[He does come to a stop from a moment. Something in her plea tugs at him; but his gaze does not waver. He remains transfixed onwards.]

...Th- that's okay, Katara. You don't have to.

But... I think that I have to. It'll be okay, Katara. [Then the next words come out without Aang even thinking it consciously.] I belong here.

[kyasdaughter]

[ oh, that wins a surge of panic out of her, and katara shakes her head fast, reaching forward in an attempt to snag his hand with hers. ]

No, you don't. You don't, and neither do I. This isn't - we shouldn't be here.

[ even if she feels the pull, too. ]

[He was about to start walking again, but his momentum halts once his hand is grasped by hers.]

B-but... just look at all the nature here. It's like home. Why should we go back into space when we have... this place?

[As the sun continues to sink, he feels it inside of him. It's not just calling out to him... it's actually calling out through him, to something within him, something ancient and powerful...]

[kyasdaughter]

Because - we can't leave everyone else we care about. How are we supposed to ever really get home if we stay here?

[ she takes a measured breath, still clinging to his hand. ]

Sokka and Zuko and Iroh are waiting for us.

[He closes his eyes in thought.]

You're right. They are. We... we shouldn't stay here...

[But his voice trails off at the same time, as if he's growing more distant. And his hand goes limp in her hold.]

[savedtheworld]

[Then his eyes snap open, glowing white, a glow that spreads across his tattoos. And he starts to float onwards, paying little attention to the Katara attached to his hand.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ oh, no. no, no, no, this was fifty shades of not okay, and katara's hand seizes on his, giving it a sudden and desperate pull. ]

What are you doing?!

[Believe it it or not, Aang isn't at home. And the Avatar State won't allow any messages to be left after the beep.

The ancient spirit is compelled only by the pull of the planet right now. Despite her pull, the Avatar tries to pull right back. If she won't let go, might as well drag her with them.]

[ WELP

looks like katara's going on an Avatar State Field Trip ]

[It's a scenic route at least. With increasingly dark trees and sightings of odd creatures around them...

The Avatar presses on, the area illuminated only by the glow he emits.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ aang she's friend-breaking up with you

but she's at least going to keep an iron grip on his hand until he actually settles long enough for her to feel safe releasing it. ]

[Wow, rude.

At least it won't be long until he does find a spot where he settles for the time being.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ and she'll just pull away from him before desperately trying her communicator and getting... nothing. great. so she tries him again. ]

Aang... are you there? Can you even hear me?

[avatarstateofmind]

[The Avatar does turn to face her as she speaks. But there's no indication of any recognition. No sign of Aang, just yet.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ katara feels a surge of -- something. alarm, maybe, and she suddenly doesn't know if the frustration she's feeling is at him or at herself for being unable to bring him back. she stares at the avatar when he turns to face her, mouth suddenly dry, and forces a power that she doesn't really feel into her voice. ]

I don't want to be here. I don't think either of us should be. I'm scared, Aang. But I'm not leaving here without you.

[avatarstateofmind]

["I'm scared, Aang."

"But I'm not leavingg here without you."

Some words echo and reverberate within the boy's spirits.

For a moment, the glowing lights start to blink. And then, the Avatar is on the ground, taking two steps towards her before stopping. It's like there's a struggle within, against the planet's pull.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ it's not aang that she's afraid of. no, she could never be scared of him - but she knows firsthand how easily people were changed, manipulated in paradisa, and even though the pull of this planet feels nothing like the castle, it's the closest thing that she has to relate it to.

so when he takes two steps toward her, she takes three steps back, away from him, wariness and caution on her face. ]

[The expression on her face registers without the actual reason behind it. The small voice trying to break through is hurt and confused.

And the Avatar's glow intensifies. The gaze now lifts, looking up past Katara, and he starts to life into the air again.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ she swallows hard, shutting her eyes briefly to quash the wave of anxiety, before charging ahead again. toward him, trying to reach for his hand again if he'll let her. ]

No, don't- you should stay here with me. Alright?

[savedtheworld]

[She can take his hand. His gaze immediately shifts back towards Katara, with a piercing glare. But, although he remains floating in the air at the moment, his ascent has come to a halt.

Maybe, just maybe, he's listening.]

[kyasdaughter]

This is far enough, right? We can just camp here for the night. Listen to nature, like we used to at home.

[ they have no supplies. no bedrolls, no food, and she has precious little water to protect them with. but she's starting to think that this might be the best compromise that she can make. ]

[She's trying. She's trying so hard to make it work and it hurts. And it gives strength all the same.

The Avatar floats back down to the ground, facing her for a quiet moment. And then, he shifts forward to quietly hug her, as the glow dies out.]
