[If there's anything this freaking ship loves, it's food. Somehow, a dinner got planned to welcome the new member. And then other people got invited. And then the dinner pretty much turned into a party with a lot of food. Needless to say, Kairi has been very busy preparing food all the day for this.

There's a lot of meat, per the captain's request. But there's also veggies, some fruit, pasta, and even brownies! There are also two pizza pies. Basically, Kairi just cooked a bunch of food and hoped it would be enough, as she had no idea how many people were coming.

SO DIG IN, BLUE FISH AND GUESTS. Also mingle and be social and all that jazz!]

[ After the invitation from Beverly, she arrives with little aplomb. She's dressed simply and out of her adventurer's gear for once. It's tucked away in case it becomes necessary at some point, but for now, she's good, thanks. There are many people she doesn't know, but that doesn't deter her much. It helps her confidence a lot that she's brought apple-filled fish pastries and miq'abobs to the shindig as a thanks for the invite.

Meanwhile, she'll be sidling up and introducing herself to anyone who looks like they won't faint from the shock of it. Which, if we're being fair, might be a good amount of the people here. ]

[Beverly has been bouncing around from guest to guest here, but she certainly won't forget to greet O'danya.]

O'danya! Hello!

[When she sees what O'danya's brought, she claps her hands together and examines the platters of food more closely.]

Oh, what's this?

Hello, Doctor. [ She gives a bright smile, then moves her arms to show what it is that she's brought. ]

Nothing particularly special, I'm afraid, but an offering all the same. It looks as though we won't want for choices in our dishes tonight! Would you care to try?

[dancingmd]

I would love to! Here, let me clear a space on the table for you. [She proceeds to do so, rearranging plates and platters to make room.]

Are these recipes from home?

[ O'danya moves expertly, getting the dishes off of her arms and onto the table with little difficulty. As her arms are free, she takes a miq'abob for herself and nibbles at one of the mushrooms. ]

Yes, that they are. Substitutions had to be made as far as the ingredients, but I should think I've made a good enough facsimile. This one—[ she raises her skewer ]—is a forest miq'abob, named for the mushrooms used in substitute for the more popular meaty variety. Those fish are sweet bread filled with apple slices.

[Laying her forefinger on her lips thoughtfully, Beverly debates which she should try first. Feeling a bit more in a dessert-y mood, she opts for the sweet bread. Before picking it up, however, she turns to O'danya and points to the bread.]

What is the best way to eat one of these? Is it alright to pick up with my hands?

[paeon]

[ O'danya chuckles and hides it behind the miq'abob before she answers. ]

Yes, of course. All of this is appropriate to eat with your hands, or utensils if you wish. There's really no wrong way to enjoy yourself with these.

Then I don't mind if I do! [Using a napkin, as she doesn't want to dirty yet another plate, she selects one of the sweet breads to try.] You see, there are some species where I am from for whom it is considered vulgar to touch food with your hands. So I wanted to check first.

[She proceeds to take a bite. Her eyes light up as she chews and when she's finished she smiles.]

Oh! It reminds me of apple pie!

[paeon]

Vulgar? Why, they must be a people entirely without adventurers.

[ Because adventurers are hella vulgar when on the road, come on now. Who needs manners in the wilderness? ]

That would mean it's come out properly. I was almost worried with the facilities I had been left with which to work.

[dancingmd]

[Beverly chuckles.] Actually many of them were traveling the stars centuries before humans.

[She takes another bite of the pastry, barely catching a piece of apple that plops out and delicately placing it her mouth.]

I suppose you could argue I don't have any way to compare these to the ones you make at home, but I'd say they came out very well!

[paeon]

Simply traveling is not enough to make one fit for adventure, that much I am certain of.

Thank you. Perhaps at our next destination, I will have better opportunity to make something befitting of my friends' taste.

[dancingmd]

[She raises an amused eyebrow.] I have to agree with you there, though I'm not sure how they would feel about that assessment.

[Isabela hasn't seen anyone like O'danya before, but she's seen enough oddities in her time she's hardly going to be overcome by the shock of it.]

What adorable pastries. Did you make them?

[paeon]

[ It's appreciated. Especially if Isabela isn't going to call her a cat. ]

Of course. [ She grins at the compliment. ] Although if we're to be honest, they probably don't taste as good as I'd hoped with the ingredients I had on hand.

Things rarely do when they're made so far from land.

It is a hard lesson to learn, and one even harder with which to work around.

[ She sighs dramatically. ]
