[back home, Zhas had a long-standing tradition of not working on Halloween. he gets totally into it. he puts on his best "normal person" costume and goes out and parties and drinks and talks to the locals like he actually belongs there. it's the one day a year he doesn't obsessively hunt down monsters or worry about his slowly-decaying family.

he may be lightyears away from home, on a planet with no vampires or any proper Halloween festivities, but like hell he's going to let that get in the way of his traditional day off. he can be found hanging around town, dressed in a nondescript black shirt, not covered in weapons, and not wearing any facepaint. he might be kind of hard to recognize--though his eyes are still glowing an unsettling, jack-o-lantern orange under the dim, clouded night sky.

oh, and there's blood on his face. his nose was bleeding, or something. he apparently hasn't noticed. actually, to be completely honest, he's kind of having trouble noticing that he's going to run into things until he nearly stumbles over them. once or twice he has to like, hold his hands out to navigate around a lamp-post. dude's pretty drunk.]

[...unless you're on the Red Fish. he's cleaned up his face, but he's sort of tipsily putting ingredients together in the kitchen and messing around with the microwave? seriously, he accidentally brushed flour off on his shirt, like, what is he even doing. this is probably how fires start.]

Hmm. What is that about, anyway? Am I right to guess it's not some mutation everyone in your world has in common?

Hm... [though it's quiet and almost sounds like it should have ended with a question mark.] Seeing things...

[he picks up whatever drink is still near him and drains some more while he tries to remember the number. there was a statistic he calculated, once. the research done on vampires is an academic goldmine compared to the research done on Clearsights.]

One in a hundred thousand? Something...

[How interesting... it sounds like something she'll want to press him about later - but right now, she'd rather keep the conversation rolling than concentrate too much on any one thing, and there's something else she wants to talk to him about, besides. Besides the vampire thing.]

Well...! I suppose I don't have your unique advantage... [Whatever it is...] ... but it seems like forces have conspired to make us work together. So, I'd like to be able to count on your support. But also support you in turn.

[wooooooooow teamwork talk. watch as his interest slides right out the window. drunk as he is, though, at least he doesn't ignore her--he just gives her kind of a flat look and waits for her to go on.]

[Oh you tittybaby.]

[OH. that was it. okay. he picks up his glass and just knocks the rest of it back until it's finished. he comes back down with a sigh.]

I'm still going to hit you if you're obnoxious.

I'll hit you back. [She shrugs.] Tell me more about your job...

[he smiles. so that was probably a good answer.]

What kind of powers do your little creatures display?

Tons. [he couldn't have answered this one succinctly if he was sober.] They split different ways.

Give me a sample. Five things they do?

[OH OKAY he can do this he holds up his fingers as he goes.]

Mind control, superior strength, turning invisible, cryokinesis, super-speed, necromancy...

[wait... wait, that's six...]

Necromancy, really? I suppose it might make sense if they truly reanimate, that they could pass it on...

It's weird. Coil knows more.

[another flat expression out at nothing in particular while he crosses his arms again.]

The kiddo who arrived who made you pipe up, huh? He's your friend?

[his tiny nod betrays him before he thinks to correct it...] He's the partner I told you about.

Will you invite him on board?

[he... laughs. again, a very short dry, soulless laugh.]

He's good in a lab.

[Mmm...]

[more nodding...]

Well, as long as he'll get along with the group and Nunnally, he's welcome on my end.

Tell me if he doesn't.

[so he can beat some sense into him.]

[She laughs! And slaps him on the back!]

[he takes it like a champ! good thing he wasn't drinking just then... because he's got to lean back and do the same to her. he ends up just kind of... hooking his arm around her shoulder and laughing, though.

man he is drunk.]

[She just lets it happen.]
