A cry for help

[a distress call has been tracked across the void, finally leading back to the source. a hulking crippled ship, teeming with hostile alien life, now lies before you.

what do you do? do you dive in or hang back? are you here to learn, play, build, or observe?

however you choose to proceed, your audience is out there somewhere, watching.]

ooc: here is a good ol' themed mingle to get you all started! and don't feel limited by the prompts and what they describe--they're just there as idea-starters, so feel free to go anywhere and do anything.

have fun!

It is a difficult question. [One Simon doesn't know if he has the answer to- biologically alive is one thing, but if these insects are nothing more than a hive, than mindless drones, it doesn't seem very much like they are living to him.] It does make me wonder, though... if they have no thoughts, if all they are here for is to simply do, then where did this ship come from? If they aren't truly alive, it doesn't make any sense that they would be able to build and run a ship like this.

[Cole stares at Simon, clearly not understanding the relevance of these questions.]

People live in things they don't make all the time. So do animals.

[Simon nodded slowly.]

That is a good point... if this ship was empty, it is possible they simply took it over for their own purposes. If that is the case, however... there could have been a crew. Humans. Or another species capable of piloting this ship.

[Cole keeps looking at him. He's nodding slightly, but he clearly doesn't really follow about why this is important.]

They didn't die. There's no death in the metal.

[Simon stick the tip of one finger in his mouth, biting down- a nervous habit, and he takes his finger out of his mouth as soon as he does so.]

Hmmm... then that is rather strange. Did these bugs build the ship all on their own? I... I just want to try and make sense of this. It's reminding me of a derelict ship we found in my world. [There are images in Simon's mind now- empty, dark corridors as seen through the bubble of a space helmet's glass visor, the feeling of death almost smothering.]
killedwithlove: (Not looking)

[personal profile] killedwithlove 2015-06-23 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Cole rocks in closer, watching Simon, but looking through him to something else that is also Simon.]

Pressing in closer, the emptiness is smothering, distorted through the glass.

I don't know. There's suffering, but I can't find it. There's no death, but there's no mind. It's empty, too empty, echoing endlessly, eternal emptiness.

[He pulls Simon's hands up over his ears, holding them there and breathing slowly.]

[Simon lets his hands rest on the side of Cole's face, gently, hoping it will help him calm. He hates the memories tugging at his mind, knowing they are upsetting.]

The emptiness on the other side of the glass... it... scares me. The idea of being that close to the vacuum of space, with only the glass of a visor separating you from it.

[He nods.]

Like the bugs are all... machines. Mindlessly doing whatever task they know how to do.
killedwithlove: (Explain to me)

[personal profile] killedwithlove 2015-06-25 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Cole stands, rocking slightly for a long moment before dropping Simon's hands again, looking up at him.]

Machines... yes. No. They're empty. Machines have purpose. These... not right. COnfusing.
pompous_today: (thinking)

[personal profile] pompous_today 2015-06-25 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Simon nods again.]

I think I may take River to see if we can catch one. Examine it, and see if we can find out more. Maybe... find out why they are so empty.
killedwithlove: (Explain to me)

[personal profile] killedwithlove 2015-06-25 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
How will you catch it?
pompous_today: (erf)

[personal profile] pompous_today 2015-06-25 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
River will most likely be able to disable it somehow. Or else kill it but leave enough intact so that we may carry it back to the ship. I am not sure trying to capture a live one would be a wise idea, given that they've attacked people.

[personal profile] killedwithlove 2015-06-27 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
If it got free, it would hurt people.
pompous_today: (*sigh*)

[personal profile] pompous_today 2015-06-28 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I figured as much. Even the ones who are not actively hostile can turn so when provoked. So we will have to kill one, or else collect one of the dead ones the others have already killed.
killedwithlove: (Wistful)

[personal profile] killedwithlove 2015-06-29 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
I can get a dead body. One of the already dead ones. Do you want one in pieces, or mostly intact?
pompous_today: (focused)

[personal profile] pompous_today 2015-06-30 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
As intact as possible, if you could. I'd like to learn as much as I can about them.
killedwithlove: (Conversational)

[personal profile] killedwithlove 2015-06-30 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
I can do that.

[And Cole turns to go and get Simon the corpse he wants.]

I will be waiting on the Bloodsport.
