broadcast 01
Who: Natasha Romanoff and various guests
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Post-broadcast, abandoned waystation? Action prompt in comments
When: During bugfest 20XX
[On screen, there's a very calm redhead looking thoughtfully at the camera, one brow slightly cocked.]
It's occurred to me that the fleet has about ten times as many firearms as it does medical professionals. It's also been pretty apparent that a lot of our cast members don't know the basics of gun safety and use. If anyone wants to learn, I'll be at the following coordinates.
[The message ends with a bit of text, the location of one of the abandoned waystations in near orbit.]

Well, with a plasma arc on it.

It's definitely a different sort of skill set. Your injury shouldn't affect much, here. These have energy-based projectiles--the recoil is minimal, shouldn't affect your balance if you're prepared for it. You want to give it a shot, show me what you remember?
no subject
[Just keep telling yourself that, Wrath. Maybe some day it'll stick.]
Yeah sure, let's go.
[She'll take one of the weapons, and she definitely knows what she's doing. She's as balanced as she can be with her back giving her problems. And she sure seems to know how to aim, got the firing down. She just... can't seem to hit anything. Well. She gets close?]

[Natasha studies the way she takes her stance, easy and assured despite the cane--back injury? She moves like it--and while her form is generally good, the way she aims is off. Or rather, ineffective. Frowning, she moves to circle to Wrath's left, still watching.]
You remember how to use a gun, at least. And you managed to hit the wall. It's a start. You favor your left, you know.
no subject
[Which is what makes the learning hard, since her major advantage up to this point was always that she was fast.]
Yeah. My right hip is basically shit. Left arm's artificial so it's easier to go that way.
[She frowns at the mess she's made so far.]
I think I should have a target reticle I can access in my right eye, I just never got the training on it because I got turfed. But that might help.
[Another frown.] I swear I didn't use to suck this badly, though.

Relying on technological enhancement is a last resort. You don't need it to shoot. You just need to learn where to direct your fire.
Have you used a gun since your injuries?
no subject
[She wrinkles her nose.] I was a sucky shoot before then, though. Just not... Quite this bad.
no subject
You just need to learn to compensate for the changes in your vision. It's good, yeah, but it's not what it used to be. Looks like you're over-correcting. Take aim at the center of the target for me. Wherever you think the target is. [She steps up behind Wrath, sighting over her shoulder.]
no subject
[And she tries that. It does improve a little, and she does take her time firing too. There's no rush.]
Maybe I should ask the doctor to check my eye. It's like... Stuff isn't quite where it's supposed to be.
no subject
Was it your dominant eye?
[Everyone's got a dominant eye. Losing the one she was most reliant on for focus might be enough to throw her off. And Natasha would very much like to get her ship's security officer back on track.]
no subject
[Wrath would really like to get back on track too.]

[She does as she's told and also tries to aim very carefully. The result is a notable improvement, actually. Not great, but better.]
Oh, good! Just going to have to practice, I guess...
no subject
Generally speaking, yeah. It's the only way to get over that sort of block. Find what keeps getting in the way, and practice until it's gone.
[She takes aim and fires, every shot hitting vital points on the vaguely humanish target at the end of her lane.]

I'll work hard. Always do! Really good shot, though. You're great at this.

[There's something in that statement that almost sounds like it could be a joke. Something private, maybe, but the kind of humor a soldier might recognize.]
We pass enough waystations like this, we could try to make it a regular thing. I could do with a round or three once in a while. It'd give me something to do, anyway, since no one seems to want to come tell me their troubles.
[The humor in that one is dry, easy to detect. It's meant to be a joke. The Windrose isn't exactly a ship that needs a counselor, after all.]
no subject
The hurfdurf is strong with this crew, huh. [Not that Wrath is rushing off to do counseling either. Though in a way it's that she doesn't even know where to begin. And she distrusts anything that smacks of psych, because corporate psych... Yeah. No.]
Probably wouldn't be bad to do hand to hand too. Cause you can't always use firearms. For that we could try to clear some storage on the ship cause we don't need quite so much room.

Maybe a little bit is natural talent.
I'd be happy to go a few rounds, but you don't really seem like you're up to much hand-to-hand right now. Still recovering? From what I've seen, the Marsiva usually patches up new recruits.
