Okay, guys. Hear me out. This is going to sound like a weird suggestion, but... has anyone thought we've been almost too gloomy lately? Our mourning is all well and good. A lot of shit happened. But if you ask me, we're missing a pretty key component to the whole cycle. Where's the party? The wake. The remembrance that we're alive and we have our own lives to continue now enriched by the lives we touched while they were here.

You know. That kind of sappy stuff.

[ There's a pause, a quiet "um". ]

If anyone else agrees, I was thinking of setting something up in say—a week or so? Would anyone else be up for that?

[ No this clearly has nothing to do with the fact that her birthday is on the 11th. Mere coincidence! ]

And how would this be handled if we were all where you're from?

[he sounds genuinely curious about it, at any rate.]

Well... it's pretty standard? Like, what you'd hopefully expect from what I've already said. A gathering of people to celebrate the life — or lives — lived, and honor them with the good. Food, alcohol, hopefully friends all brought together to revel.

After a proper viewing and eulogies and things at the funeral itself, of course.

Lives? [--that's the first thing that catches his attention about all of that.]

As in, plural?

Lives, I was referring to like what happened here. Dealing with a mass grave and just... so many.

Oh. [annnd he sounds a little disappointed by the correction.]

I'd recently learned that some believe in cycles of multiple lives, and was wondering if the ceremony would be different in a case like that.

[oh well. he refocuses on the actual matter at hand.]

...And so, even in the case of the deaths of strangers, you would make time for some revelry?

Oh, that's a good point. A wake like that would certainly be interesting... Now you've got me curious.

Well... it doesn't really seem right to not acknowledge it or deal with it properly, you know?

I wholeheartedly agree. However, I've found that not many tend to see things my way.

So, it is refreshing to hear someone not only willing to mourn the death of strangers, but celebrate their lives as well.

Can't blame people for being caught up in other things, but I guess I haven't been here long enough to get distracted.

Does that mean I get to count you in as part of the festivities?

Food. That is easily the most important element.

...Though, I believe alcohol probably ranks second.

Those have been the concerns brought up already. Those, and music. We'll probably get those sorted out considering how important they are...

Music, fine. It's a popular choice.

And I suppose the setting is also important. I personally prefer somewhere with plenty of room for people to mingle, but also with areas of less activity and noise--very comfortable--where closer conversation can happen.

So far, our options are cargo bays. Lots and lots of cargo bays, unless we get lucky enough to stop at more waystations soon but that would be a little too quick, anyway. Suppose anyone willing to lend their ship out would fit those requirements.

[there's a silent pause while he shrugs]

It's as good a place as any, I suppose.

...Really, it's the atmosphere and intent that counts. It's easy to generate good energy when you try.

That's probably true. Looking at people now, you wouldn't believe it, though.

That's something that doesn't come easily around here, sometimes.

[ She laughs outright. ]
