[It's been nearly a week since the fleet's said their goodbyes to the planet full of skull face folks, and another Shuffle has come and gone. Despite what was mentioned on the last week's Shuffle about cannibalism, it doesn't seem like any crews has resorted to that, so maybe some of you have begun to relax.]

[Or maybe not. In fact, maybe you should do a crew headcount just in case1.]

[By now, some of you who handled any red stones from the planet natives may be feeling under the weather or even downright shitty. But hey! What's that to stop you from visiting the way-stations? These way-stations may be in the same crappy condition as the last way-stations - but at least they're people on these ones! Really...shady looking people! But that's not about to stop you from making friends right2?]

[Essentially, this is a game wide mingle post for this week's shuffle, November's way-stations anyone getting ill, or anything else you want to do but too lazy to make a post about! Please feel free to tag in and tag around! Just make sure to put your characters' location and communication methods (action/network) in the header and/or in the prompts!]

So, is it a spirit tree, or something?

[she grimaces, even if he's being nice. this is kind of mortifying. she's also still being very quiet, even if she'd rather be shrieking...]

Um, every tree has a spirit, uh... technically.

[What is it even made of, it's like metal and glass all rolled into one.]

Yeah, everything's connected to everything else, and so on. I don't really get into the spirit stuff, myself, more practical, y'know? But I know some people back home who are really into it.

[He turns to give her a grin.]

Don't suppose it's got the directions to get out of here by any chance?

[oh. he's taking this well. okay. maybe she's not doomed to be that weird girl who talks to trees after all. (though, she probably still is, let's be fair). she'll... fidget with her hair and try to feel less like dying inside.]

I, uh... Tried to ask, but trees aren't really good at direction. Or faces. Or... Talking, honestly. I think ones made of plastic might be even worse.

[She is phenomenally lucky he's used to weird spirit BS. It makes him mask his judgeyness about it all.]

Plahstick? Is that what this is? [Yes, his augment agrees. It's a tool and a useful one.]

This is why I don't approve of spirit shenanigans, you can never know if you're gonna get a straight answer. Me? I'm hitting all the stores and seeing if I can find a map, or some history scrolls or something more useful than sketchy tree help.

Hey, it's okay. Some of us have people skills, some of us have...talking to trees skills. We do what we can do, right?

[SHE JUST... laughs, awkwardly, like she's finally giving in to a giggle.]

Okay, am I going to be the weird girl who talks to trees forever, now? I do other stuff, I swear.

[He will consider it a win on his part to get a legit giggle out of her.]

It's still pretty weird to be caught talking to trees, though. We can all just pretend it never happened.

Not where I come from. Or rather, the group I hang out with.

But it's okay, I can forget the whole tree talking thing.

[though... forgetting about it may prove impossible, since she goes right back to weird tree-talking-related stuff:]

But if you're used to people talking to trees and stuff, does that mean there's... a lot of magic where you're from?

[Good job in burying the whole thing. Sokka nods, but he doesn't look all that enthralled by the idea.]

Yeah, I mean, most of it's just Avatar stuff. [A shrug.] I'm a man of science, I don't dabble in it.

Avatar stuff...

[she squints at him. hoping for some more explanation.]

Oh...right.

[Hoe does he even begin to explain this.]

Okay so...uh. Where I come from, there are Benders, people who can bend whatever element their connected to: Water, Fire, Earth and Air. The Avatar is the one person who can bend all the elements. They're reincarnated so they're all technically the same person and do a lot of...spirity stuff. They're the bridge between our world and the spirit world.

[He shrugs.]

It's weird. Anyway, one of my best friends is the latest Avatar, so I get dragged along to a lot of spooky spirit shenanigans.

Wow. Okay. [she... nods along to this explanation, because she's watched TV shows. she's read all of the Harry Potter books. she can follow this pretty well.] I, uh, just have one question.

Fire away, I can't promise I can give you an answer that makes sense, but I'll try.

Okay. Where you're from... Is wood an element?

[she seems very serious about this.]

Well, I guess it is, but nobody can bend it.

...Though there was that swamp guy who could bend this giant tree's vines and stuff? That's about as close as it gets, and he was a Waterbender.

I wouldn't worry about it. Being unique is a good thing. Being the same as everyone else is way overrated.

[she... smiles, but rolls her eyes.]

Okay, now you're just going out of your way to make me feel better.

[He chuckles and raises his hands a little.]

Nah, I promise I'm telling the truth. I don't usually go out of my way to make people feel better unless I really need to.
