Who goes there?

[After weeks of relative silence, our intrepid passengers finally travel within visual range of a blue planet. Marsiva's slow-and-steady course makes it clear that this is the Drift Fleet's next destination--but just as your ships come within scanning range and your computers begin to gather data, a fleet of quick little watchdog ships zip out of the planet's atmosphere, heading straight for you!

They do not swoop in for an attack, but hold their positions between you and the planet. They look close enough to cause some trouble, and any working Communications Officer can tell you that they have weapons locked on the Fleet in warning.

The tell-tale sound of an incoming hailing frequency chimes over your ship's alert system. Someone would like you to pick up the phone. Thanks to their augment, all passengers instinctively know that they'll be looking for the Captain or the Communications Officer of the ship--but no one says someone else can't pick it up first.

On the bridge, the hailing frequency can be viewed on screen, along with the attached subject: "Identify yourselves." The notification chime goes off every seven seconds. These ships don't look like they're going anywhere, but they don't want to be kept waiting, either.

What do you do? Will you accept the frequency?]

ooc → see the July Star System post for details about this event! there is no real rush in this post (we won't even be around to begin responding to it until Sunday afternoon), so take your time, feel free to tag each other in this post (maybe try to get your Comms officers off their asses), and there is no time too late to tag into this post. the element of urgency is all IC, and there is no OOC pressure at all.

[ She's waiting through that delay, and starting to get more and more annoyed the longer they wait ...

-- Hmm. The truth is that they're just following wherever Atroma seems to take them, but she's never sure if dropping that name anywhere is a good or bad idea. She's also not sure if mentioning the new ship they've got in tow is a good or bad idea, either.

So, she puts on her best pacifying and reassuring tone: ]

We mean no harm -- we're just passing through. If you'd rather we didn't, we'd be happy to clear out.

[ She'd rather not try and land on a planet if it's going to get them attacked, after all ]
ino: (Facepalm.)

We're --

[ Wait, what?

... Oh. That must be the Iskaulit they're talking about. Dammit, she knew taking that ship was a stupid idea -- ! She presses her fingers against her forehead in frustration before continuing ... ]

That ship has no one aboard it. We just picked it up a few days ago and brought it with us -- if we can find these Nunnilis, it will go back into their possession. We have no actual affiliation with them whatsoever.

[ She's not sure if explaining why there's no one aboard is the best idea yet, but ... ]

It wasn't abandoned, they were dead or dying.

[ Trying so hard to be civil about it, because she is just so positive she was right about not taking the damn thing, but now that it's sort of their responsibility ... Well, she's somber as she delivers the news, anyways ]

There was a fungus growing on the ship that infected them. It's been cleaned and decontaminated, and now we'd like to give it back if they'll accept it. That is our intent.
ino: (That doesn't sound good.)

[ Yeah, a really TENSE several minutes where she's waiting to see whether or not she should make the call to retreat before they get shot at.

... She might be muttering something along the lines of "come on" after a few minutes ... ]

ino: (Phew!)

[ There's some palpable relief in her voice when she speaks. ]

I can forward you the research we documented looking into the fungus, and the files we did find in their system?

Or ... Hell, you're welcome to board the Iskaulit and have a look around if you really wanted to. Like I said, we decontaminated everything.
ino: (Curious.)

Got it -- just a moment.

[ Because she has to figure out how to do that, exactly -- but it's not long before they receive the files. ]

There we go. Uh, that should be everything -- let me know if you have any questions. I was involved with the research personally.
