[ She frowns ... ]

And why is that?

"No doubt." And, well, it seems that she could use a very light hand-squeeze at that so he reaches out to her. Light, because she's not Captain Rogers or Thor and he is very strong.

He respects that she can still see him as male even if he had a vagina, but he shakes his head, still amused. "Normal except for the genitals, I should clarify. Ultron, one of my creators, viewed them as irrelevant and a weakness. Primarily irrelevant, as he was one of the AI." He pauses, considering--but why not? "I can modify my own body to some extent. If it did become necessary, I could grow one."

She appreciates it, and squeezes his hand back. "It just makes me feel like such a dumbass, sometimes."

...wait what. "Irrelevant? Was Ultron a total asshole who didn't like people? I bet so. Because he never got laid." Well, it's not the weirdest thing she's ever heard. "Oh, that's got to be convenient. So it can be like... whatever you want at the time. That'd be really nice if you decide you want it. Lucky!"

"Yeah, I think I'd rather just. You know. I'm going to have a pet fish!" How could you eat something that'll be a pet? "Eating animals is kind of a rich person thing," she says. "Back home. Because rich people are all fucked up and have no priorities."

"It is not your fault if you were deceived. It is the one doing the deceiving that is at fault." Not everyone can perceive when someone is lying to them--most people can't, especially when it's a skilled liar like Thor's brother. Victim-blaming in that case is the opposite of productive.

"'Genocidal' would be more appropriate. He felt there were more important matters than sexual activity." For that matter, the Vision has yet to consider it important, but at least he's aware that it might possibly do that in the future. He does laugh at her declaration that he's lucky, though. "In that respect, yes, I am very lucky."

"I thought taxes were more a government thing. And then they give it to the army."

She nods. "That sounds like a really nice place to live. Like a little city."

[Have some enthusiastic clapping and cheering. Wrath's been watching from her beach chair the whole time in completely fascinating.]

Wow, that's really cool! You can make anything, huh? How do you do it?

[Vacation!]

[Syeira is, for the most part, trying to enjoy herself. She frequents the beach, and can also be found at any of the fish bars during normal meal times. She seems to resignedly accept that swimwear is the thing for this planet, but she's still a bit embarrassed at all the skin her suit shows.

Join her in a swim! Or for lunch!]

[Sings for her supper]

[When the sun sets, evening gatherings and bonfires are sure to spring up. Especially with all the guests on the planet. Syeira knows a good crowd when she sees them, and steps up to perform for a few bits of usable currency or a meal. Depending on when you catch her, she might be playing on a pan flute while dancing to the tune, onlookers clapping to the beat, or she sings while strumming on a lute. Or perhaps she's telling a story of a dangerous adventure, and of her brave companions.]

[For Zhas- on/after the 26th]

[They've been on a paradise planet for a while and Syeira has acclimated well it seems. By now she's all but forgotten to be a little embarrassed at all the skin her bathing suit shows, and she's not even burned, only nicely sun-kissed. It's good to be an elf, or half god. Whichever. But she's noticed that Zhas has been his reclusive self, and because she's determined for them to be friends, it's only the friend-thing to do to drag him out into an actual sun.

And she will too if she has to. She even boldly takes him firmly by a hand as soon as she runs into him, turning her brightest smile on him.]

Zhas, come to the beach with me!

"Taxes go to many things. They do go towards the army, yes, but they also go towards upkeeping such things as roads, and filling the treasury should we need to purchase things in trade or need to pay those who do work for the palace, and some of it has been given over to public workings such as providing reading and maths lessons for children."

The Valdemarian kings and queens had always been fair and kind, and especially in recent years grown more progressive in the attention it paid the people. Not that they had ever abused them before, but it was certainly making more efforts to aid them in these plentiful years.

He thought on that for a moment and then he chuckled. "You know, it rather is. The city surrounds it going down the hill, but yes, I suppose the Castle is its own city upon the hill in a way."

"Maybe," she says. She doesn't remember one way or another at this point. And she just believed them whenever they said they were doing something to help her. Something to make her better.

"Definitely an asshole. Who can't figure out how to connect to people." Because really, that's one way to make a fundamental connection. "People who say shit like that is unimportant never have their heads screwed on right. People are important."

Except for me. Because the mission is more important.

"Having choices is always good. Because then you can just... do whatever you feel like doing. Whatever's right at the time."

"There is no room for 'maybe'. Do you blame a fish that is caught by a fisherman using bait that it mistook for its true prey?" Since she's anti-eating-real-animals, that should be an apt metaphor, he hopes.

"Yes. He lacked compassion and respect. I regret that he never understood that, even at the end." And he's thankful, every day, that he has a broader point of view than Ultron. "Life is important. People are a beautiful expression of life, even when they're flawed."

Having choices is certainly better than the alternative, even when talking about something as superficial as appearance. "I agree. Do you know it is a conscious choice that I remain this unusual color, rather than a more standard human skin tone? It's my choice, because I believe I should be honest about my differences."

[ They never tested whether Duke could take apart Vanyel's magic, and that wouldn't have mattered because Duke doesn't have Dein Nomos at the moment anyway. Well, technically he knows the Rizomata formula and could try. Another thing to think of.

He sighs a little, because this wasn't an amusement, it was teaching! But that is a valid point.

Duke's spell forms as a sphere about that half of the rock and the open space about it, a nice fiery red that shrinks down to nothing as Duke closes the hand he'd cast with. ]

... I'll have to test that on another one, I have no idea if it did anything. [ The idea was if any spores got released, that would catch them, but well, his magic works oddly. ]

[It's Beverly's first day on the beach (where she's sporting this number, along with a white, wide-brimmed sunhat... thank goodness whoever provided it took her fair skin into account) and she's extremely cheery, much more than she's been well... ever since she got here really, though the past couple of months have taken the hardest toll on her.

When she sees Julian walking along the shore, she waves excitedly and calls out his name probably a little more loudly than most people would want.]

Julian! Mind if I join you?

[Joseph hangs back for just a second because he's not always the most observant, but he does notice some of the distance in Caesar's smile. Naturally, he wonders what it's all about. He's trying to ignore what happened (if something even happened in the first place) and focus on keeping things a light competition as always. He thought Caesar was there with him, but then he seems miles away for a brief moment and he doesn't know what to make of it.]

[Brushing it aside since thinking in circles won't do him any favors, Joseph catches up quickly enough and even gets ahead of Caesar by a couple of steps, turning to walk backwards. Which is probably not his best idea given Joseph's level of coordination (never mind it's Caesar that knows where they're going, not Joseph), but he trusts that if he's going to fall down it will be by Caesar's choice. So, he probably doesn't have anything to worry about. Probably.]

I know! It always catches people off-guard. Wanna know why? [He doesn't actually wait for Caesar to answer. Dramatically, he places a hand over his heart.] It's my naturally gentle and kindhearted disposition.

[He grins, looking absolutely smug and full of himself as he believes he ought to. Because he's great. He doesn't just think that, he knows it. It's simply fact.]

Or if that doesn't get them, then my good looks certainly disarm them. They convince themselves there's absolutely no way I could be so devious, but that's all part of my cunning strategy.

You could learn a thing or two from me, Caesarino.

Gardening makes sense, I guess, but shopping just seems so... So... [He starts rotating a hand in the air, trying to will the right word to come to him, but then he just waves it off. She must know what he means.] I don't know. I'd just expect you to be into reading books or something over shopping.

[He grins.]

It's cute though. I would have never suspected.

Don't call me cute.

And of course I like shopping. What girl doesn't?

[There's absolutely no way to avoid looking at Joseph now. It's flatly impossible. Which might be the point, Caesar thinks, half-listenin. If Joseph noticed him retreating into himself, his first action would be trying to distract him. And Joseph is very good at being distracting. It's practically his primary skill.]

I could learn a thing or two from you. [His voice is a little numb at first, but then it comes out stronger, sharper, indignant, only a little forced.] From you? I don't think so, idiota. I'm the one who just caught you offguard, remember? Or did your little fish wipe your memory for you, too?

[He shoves Joseph in the chest with both hands, hard enough to make him stumble but not fall. He can feel old familiar things burning in him: irritation, competitiveness, a flicker of anger. They comfort him. Feeling bad is much more natural than feeling as though the stars have realigned themselves while he's been playing a game he doesn't understand.]

[Julian's pales skin has rosied up with some time in the sun, warming to its usual healthy, olive tan.

He startles slightly at Beverly's call but relaxes soon enough, smiling at her.]

Of course. You look quite beautiful, Dr Crusher.

[He's just callin' 'em like he sees 'em. Joseph shrugs.]

I don't know. You're just not like most girls I know is all. They're not as smart. Or am I not allowed to call you that either?

[He is, in fact, not hitting on her right now.]

Why can't a girl be smart and care about her looks, too?

Hey, that's not what I'm-- [Joseph sighs.] Do you wanna just hit me again and get it over with?

[ -- That catches her off guard, and she blinks for a moment, before she actually genuinely laughs ]

[Joseph catches his balance fairly smoothly, his grin not wavering for a second. Caesar's responding exactly how he expected and it feels much better.]

One time. [He holds up a finger again.] You caught me off-guard just one time. Don't start getting an even bigger ego, Caesar, or there won't be enough room for everyone else on the beach.

And you seriously need to stop talking shit about that fish, or you're gonna have to stay out of the water the rest of the time we're here.

Hey! What was that for? [While the newcomer's not an airbender, Toph and put two and two together. Rude much.]

[...What? How? He doesn't--]

[Joseph's face screws up in mild irritation because he's confused. Why are girls like this?]
