Absolutely. Their morality [if it can even be called that, she thinks] cannot possibly sustain itself in these circumstances.

I'm not complaining.

[He's just saying. There are some true things about Joseph, and one of them is that he doesn't know when to shut up.]

[It's hard to hide a smile at the face Joseph makes. In fact, it was hard to keep from smiling when he put the drink to his lips; Caesar knows something about Joseph's tastes, and they don't lean this way. But who knows? Maybe he's expanded his horizons.]

[Apparently not. Caesar ducks his head and takes the drink back, then, seeing the longing glance toward the mead, reaches across the table and pushes it forward.]

Maybe my tastes are more varied than you think they are. Maybe I'm trying something new. Maybe I want to get very drunk.

[At least one of these things is true.]

Either way, I think it's safe to say that the majority of the people here don't have much in the way of technology - or magic.

[well] Other than what space capable vessels they have, but those seem to be the exception, rather than the rule.

Have you tried trading with them?
experiencepoints: (Dude sucks dick for coke I seen him.)

Yeah, I've been stocking up on fish here, but I can't find a place that makes weapons, so I'm kind of shit out of luck on the staff front.

[Well maybe it's nice for someone who doesn't fry to a crisp in the sun.]

I suppose not.

[She sighs.]

What have you been up to, Isabela?
unconfines: (W → the sun will be guiding you;)

That's a bit morbid for a scavenger hunt, isn't it. You could have collected something more cheerful. Like alcohol! Or kittens.

[But he didn't, is the thing. Hawke picked this, which is attention to detail, his details, that Anders isn't used to. He lifts his head to help with the wrangling of the mess that is his hair, shoulders shrugging forward to get the longer strands behind his back. He smiles a little at the sensation of fingers behind his ears, among other things.]

But I— These are nice, too. I like them.

[Just a smidge awkward, with some unintentional softness of his own. A fat and timely droplet of rain water falls from the ends of his hair (somehow already back within the danger zone, because of course it is) onto the paper with a splat and he immediately begins to fuss, ducking his head and clearing his throat. He does his best to fold the far edge of the paper over the wicks, at least.]

Provided I don't ruin them first from dripping all over them like some kind of wet dog. [Levity begets levity, naturally, though this time it's not really a dodge, just... natural back and forth. With as much disdain as might ever be contained in a single word:] Nature. Will its tyranny ever end?

The house special.

[ He deadpans, but it's true. Possibly it's some kind of microbrew that involves algae. Do they have microbrew here? Who is to say they don't. Certainly not Hawke!

Sure. Generally the proper greeting is to kill it with your fork.

[She scoffs, but it's with a smile. It's good to see Fenris laugh, always.]

Nothing that dire, I'm sure. But thank you.
coppermarigolds: (do we ever get to know that)

[personal profile] coppermarigolds 2015-07-22 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Some of the people they've brought here are children, and sheltered children at that. To send children who aren't ready into a situation like we just faced... no matter how much potential they might have, and I'm sure some of them do... it's not fair. I can't stand it.

[Avelin scowls.]

On the other hand, some of the worst offenders are adults. I'm not sure I can do anything about him. Them.

Probably the same reason it was everywhere in Kirkwall. The whole ...oceany thing.

[ Truly, Hawke is the finest dinner companion anyone could ask for. ]

Cheer up, Fenris! Maybe the next planet we get dragged to will contain only rocks.

[Cassandra bends down and grabs hold on the other end. She looks up at Pearl. They'll need to be careful in lifting it--Cassandra trusts it will fall apart otherwise--which means a little coordination.]

[ Weirdly enough, Hawke has yet to meet anyone attempting to convince him of what seem from his perspective just obvious ridiculousness. Won't it be funny when that happens. ]

Can't you just, I don't know, do magic in front of them?

[ He wiggles the fingers of one hand, which demonstratively burst into flame some more. He is 34 and will never, ever, stop finding that as tremendously fun as it was--well okay, not when his magic first manifested. Then it was more 'oh god oh god the curtains. But after that! ]
coppermarigolds: (that makes no sense)

[Well. She's not going back out in the rain. Aveline finds herself a rock and sits down rather awkwardly, arms across her stomach.]

I'm Aveline, for what it's worth.

[ It's a sickness. :( ]

Not to worry, I don't think that's their style here.

[ Although like, surely algae is bad enough--no, it's fine. Considering most malted things are created with various forms of ...oat or whatever. It's all just plant life. ]

I've been drinking it all day. Look, no extra legs or anything, I'm sure it's fine.

[No, goddammit. He's not gonna do it. He's not gonna drink the thing. Joseph lightly drums all of his fingers on the table until, okay, fuck it. He's drinking the thing. He can't get that taste out of his mouth fast enough, but God is he relieved when it's gone. That's much better.]

[Their waitress returns, but not with their entrees just yet. She's placing breadsticks down and informing them their entrees will be out in about another five minutes before leaving again to wait on other tables. Joseph picks up a breadstick, frowning at it suspiciously because he can already tell it's like the other breadsticks at other restaurants and made with algae. He applauds them for their creativity, but man do they ever need to expand their horizons. Everything is so salty. Like Caesar will be in about five minutes with his dinner AAAAYYYYY-O!!!]

Remember, no excuses for not clearing your plate. [He levels the breadstick at Caesar.] That includes being too drunk.

[Is that sun on her face or a blush? Or both?]

... shut up, Hawke.

"It is," he admits. "But that does not place any more blame on you than on the fish. I ask that you think about it in those terms; you need not accept it yet, but it may help." Because he does know how minds work, from the simplest animal mind to one as complex as his own, which is several degrees of magnitude more advanced than a human's (not that he'll be admitting that to anyone because it would be rude). There are advantages to having the Infinity Stone of the Mind tied to his own physical brain.

"A catch-22? Or perhaps you have a different phrase for it." But it describes what she's talking about well enough. And, sadly, some individuals really do lack empathy. The Vision is glad he's not one of them.

"Because it is an expression of yourself," he says, agreeing with the sentiment. "As my appearance is an expression of mine."

[Caesar takes a sip of his drink instead of half-downing it - it's the second round, he can afford to go slow now - and snorts into it when Joseph finally gives in and goes for the mead again. He makes a mental note that Joseph likes sweet drinks and gestures to the waitress. When she comes over, he murmurs something to her low enough that Joseph can't hear, and she hurries away.]

I'm offended by what you're insinuating. [He puts his chin on his hand again and watches Joseph levelly over the breadsticks.] No excuses. I do it or I don't.
unbearablynaive: (laserface)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2015-07-22 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Some people like traditional methods. He won't judge.] Certainly. I would be little use as an engineer if I lacked precision tools. [Or, you know, a laser beam he can shoot out of his Mind Stone. He has that, too.

Oh, that's a neat hologram! He watches it, fascinated.]
Yes, like that. With this large a chunk, we could make both a dagger for precision and a larger studded club for force, so you may choose a weapon appropriate to the situation. Of if you have a suitable shaft, you mentioned a spear?

[ Hawke sits similarly, although on him it manages to resemble like, a gangly pile of limbs draped over itself than anything more formal. ]

They don't sound like a very fun people, your Karsites. Perhaps they need new hobbies.

[ Anyway, at least he's no stranger to healing magic. Shitty at it, but familiar! ]

You know, you ought to talk to Anders, if you haven't had the chance. About so high, blond, difficult to miss.

[ Erm. ] In a good way! Whatever you healer types talk about, I don't know. Civilizations founded on the sharing of ideas and all that.

[Flirting and punning. Hawke, what are you trying to do to her here? She's going to have an aneurysm in short order if this keeps up for very long. As it is though, Cassandra blanches and stammering is certainly a thing that's happening. Words eventually fall out though.]

You may not. Focus on what you're doing, Hawke.

[Yup. Caught.]

No. In Faerun, it's not considered very seemly to be so underdressed. But we're not in Faerun.

[She shrugs, trying to be game about it. At least, she's making an effort to adapt. When in Rome.]

"It was lovely, sir. It's always a pleasure to watch a fellow artist at work."

Mmhm.

[ Actually though, he does realize they have inadvertently started circling a minefield vis Donnic there, so he changes the subject a little. ]

If you get too tired of the relaxation you're so good at, we could always go build houses.

[ Damn, he's let a charitable impulse slip. Quick, Aveline, stab him in it! ]
