Nah, I know I'd be pretty annoyed if someone kept telling me the world I'm from sounded like some kind of video game. [IF ONLY HE KNEW]

And hey, your world's still your own, and that makes it unique! I've never heard of any kind of planet like yours until you told me about it, and the fact that that sort of magic, that history, exists is really amazing to me! [He wiggles his feet from side to side - the water's fine!] That it's your home makes it special. At least, that's what I believe.

It's not the first time I've been called that! Some people would call it annoying, though.

I was my party's strategist back home. Being a pessimist was basically my job.

So it's a strategist's job to think the worst of situations so they can prevent it from happening, right?

[experiencepoints]

That's basically it. You take what you know and what you can learn, figure out the scenarios that prevent you from completing your objectives, and prevent those scenarios from happening.

[geonomy]

Huh... But see, you can do something like that. I always just hope for the best and don't really think about things like that. [He gives a somewhat sheepish smile.] Not such a good thing when I'm the new captain of the ship.

Well, it's not that bad, is it? I mean, it's not like being the captain here really means anything. It's totally pointless, isn't it?

Well, I wouldn't say that. The fleet who met us outside the planet wanted to talk to the captain, right? So they hold some priority, I think.

[It's less about defending his own position and more about defending Sheena as his captain, because she was awesome, and that showed in the way she handled the situation. He hopes he can be like that, should the title prove to need some use later.]

Yeah, for all the good that did. The captain has no real power.

The captain's an equal among her or his crew, sure, but they're still representative of the crew. So yeah, you're right, they have no real power, and they shouldn't. But they're still the figurehead of the ship - at least, according to the viewers, and whichever alien ships we run into.

Yeah, but since none of us have any power anyway, I'm sticking with 'pointless'.

And there's a prime example of pessimist vs. optimist! [Still, he leans his weight back on his hands and looks up at the sky, a smile on his face.] Well, even if it's pointless, I plan on taking it seriously anyway. My crew's more important to me now than ever, you know?
