[ He looks to the waves, scrutinizes them as if expecting some sort of monster to pop out from it's watery depths, then looks back at Nel. ]

Wet? It's the ocean, supposed to be.

[somehow, his awe intensifies. his eyes widen and ears perk up a little in disbelief as he glances over at Michael again, but then it's right back to staring at the water after that.]

--That's really the ocean?

[ It's weird to him that this kid is so amazed by a large body of water, though he has lived most of his life (that can he remember) by the ocean so the novelty wore off after a while. ]

Really really. Wanna go see for yourself? I can show you.

[--oop, and he's immediately staring at Michael for real now, caught somewhere between excited and terrified.]

Isn't it dangerous??

[ He pushes himself up to stand then, brushing sand off his pants. ]

Stay close to the shore and you'll be fine. It's just water.

Water can be dangerous... [he insists! but, by the way he eyes the shoreline, his excitement seems to be growing, despite his hesitation.

could he really get close to it without something terrible happening?]

[ EYEROLL.

Dragging his feet Michael walks over to Nel, leaning down to get better on his level. ]

So can breathing, but we still do it anyway. Look, I'll come with you. You'll be safe.

[--oh. having this guy walk on over, lean down, and make an offer like that does steal his attention from the ocean for a moment. he really hadn't been expecting it. attention like that from some big guy who obviously has better things to do (like lay in the sand) always catches him off guard.

so, still nervous but now surprised and maybe a little be reassured, he nods.]

...Okay.

[ He really doesn't have anything better to do and he's bored, so he figures at least this way he can get some level of entertainment. Michael grins at his agreement, not thinking to ask before he effortlessly picks Nel up and carries him bridal style. ]

It'll be fun, promise.

[ Long legs carry them both to the water quick enough and he wades in until it is about a meter below his waist. ]

You ready?

[hopefully Michael doesn't mind having a cute little elf clinging onto him for dear life, because that's definitely what he's got now. he makes the best frightened little sounds, hugs closer the nearer they get to the water... until they're out in it and he's trying not to panic.

he's trying to be brave, but he's mostly just a burr sticking as tightly to Michael as he can get away with.]

R-ready for what??

[ He doesn't seem to mind, in fact every time Nel clings tighter he can't help but chuckle. This is one of those times you just gotta jump in, literally, instead of hesitating. He'll miss his chance to enjoy the water if he just stands around staring at it like a stunned deer. ]

A surprise.

[ For a moment he hesitates, changes his mind about what he initially wants to do. Takes pity on the poor elf. ]

Hang on─ reach out and touch it, the water won't bite.

[Nel might be sensing how close he was to disaster, so he's so very grateful when Michael is merciful.]

O-okay... [and instead of balking or questioning like he wants to do, he tries to be as obedient as possible... and reaches down to touch the water!]

--Oh, gods above. The waves feel so big!

[it's maybe a weird way to describe it, but it's all he's got for the way he can actually feel the water moving. that is a big, new, scary thing for him.]

[ He still has more than enough time to pull something out of the dickish hat, but for the moment he holds off. Fulfilling his nice quota for the week or something. ]

See, not that dangerous.

[and boy is this little elf thankful that he's being spared. he clings close again, looking up at Michael with big, frightened eyes.]

But it's so deep! Can't you drown?

[please don't let him drown, Michael, please...]

Only if you try to breathe it in.

[ Geeze tiny elf boy!!! He almost has to wonder how this guy managed to survive this long. ]

Gotta hold your breath.

[it's a fair thing to wonder. he's basically domesticated. he'd die so fast in the wild...]

--You let the water go up over your head??

[ This is ridiculous, Michael's gonna give him a weird look because HONESTLY. ]

Yeah? Can do it now.

[oh no! the thought of it has him staring at the water in fear, unconsciously curling his fingers in Michael's shirt and clinging as close as he can.

this is definitely a kid who has never gone swimming in his life.]

Hey. [ It's a pathetic attempt to sort of sooth the elf's fears, hardly compassionate or whatever people are supposed to be like in these situations. ] You're fine. Promise I won't let you drown or anything.

[and maybe even more pathetic than that, is the fact that it works perfectly. because hell if Nel knows how people are supposed to be. the fact that Michael hasn't heartlessly dunked him at all yet is downright gentlemanly.]

Okay...

[he's trusting him, because he really doesn't have much of a choice.]

[ Considering that it is something of a rare occasion that he is this... well.. pleasant, yeah he is being downright gentlemanly. He cocks his head to the side, looking about the water washing around them before moving back towards shore a bit. It's not until he finds a spot that he is happy with that he stops. ]

Don't scream.

[ He lets go of Nel's legs first letting them all but dangle for how many seconds it takes for the elf to realize what's going on it. The water is lower now, if Nel was to stand proper it would likely reach a little above his waist. Safe, really.

The rest of Michael's grip goes a moment later, hands held out on either side of him. Not exactly a dump in the water, but close enough. ]

[he's obedient enough that he doesn't scream, but he does cling and gasp when Michael lets go of his legs and he suddenly finds himself kind of halfway submerged in water.

this might be the deepest water he's ever been in, aside from maybe baths and small pools, and it's moving. so, it takes him a minute to avoid high panic and begin to adjust.

and then he's suddenly standing on his own, arms held awkwardly up at his sides, looking like he doesn't want to dare breathing, let alone moving anywhere.]

[ He waits for the elf to let go, waits for a moment or two as it all sinks in. ]

You can breathe, you know.

[ Michael chuckles, reaching down to splash a bit of water at Nel. ]

[he actually startles, flinching when Michael splashes at him a little.

but, after a few moments to realize that he really hasn't been breathing much, he finally lets the air fall out of his lungs in a very tense little laugh.]

--It's scary!

It's water.

[ He decides to splash him again, being the mature adult that he is. ]
